  1. Tell them to try another dz. That dz is the most expensive place I know to learn.
  2. That's right. Base jumpers jump from 400 feet. NOT skydivers. And you don't need an airplane to base jump. This would be classified as a skydive not a base jump due to the use of an airplane. Why not just get a crane and jump off that if they are so intent on doing this? Or a tethered balloon? That would be considered a aircraft wouldn't it According to the FAA, it's not. Much better than trying to use an airplane and having any potential errors associated with skydiving in general. BASE and skydiving are two separate sports. (Of course the public may not understand but I'm sure the FAA does.)
  3. So how many of those jumps did you pay for and how many did you get paid for? Therein lies the rub It depends on how you do the math, but I suppose I could argue that I paid for every single one of them. Blues, Dave I'm sure you did, lol! I used to jump every weekend and even during the week those years when I came out even or ahead. Or even a bit under. Sadly that is not so anymore.
  4. Nah, I think he still has a little room. After all Ian does have a 'manly' shirt on, unlike Stu Edited to add pic for comparison purposes

    fall rate

The base sets the fall rate. Everyone else is responsible for matching that fall rate. You shouldn't bring the skydive down if someone is going low. (This only applies in a perfect world of course )
  8. Fastrax is not a PD team right? And does Jim no longer have a team? The only other teams I can think of are Icarus (Evolution) and the red bull team (but they are more of a skydiving team, not swooping right). Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake Just trying to get a picture of where all this fits in.
  9. So is this new team 'one step below' the current pd team in terms of skill? Or will they be considered equal?
  10. During bigway events, some of us are required to open at 2500'. Which means, some of us pull at 2500' and some have fully inflated canopies as low as 1500'. I try to pull just barely before 2500' so that I'm already in a deployment sequence at 2500', and have a fully inflated canopy between 2000-2500' with my reasonably-brisk-opening Sabre, though there were at least a few jumps where Altitrack tells me I'm fully inflated slightly below 2000' (and still higher than half of the canopies at that particular jump! And yes, they were all the outers that broke off at the same time as I did.) It is something that bigway events sometimes have to deal with, when you're an outer -- there's only so much airspace to cover even in a good track, after a 100way and bigger formation, especially if the bigway only has time to complete from only 14000 to 16000 feet. So 6-7Kfeet breakoffs with outers doing long-distance tracking towards 2500 feet pulls resulting in low deployments, very little time for EP -- at these pull altitudes there's no time to troubleshoot a high speed, so EP's are typically immediate. Very true. I was typically open at 1700 to 2000 during the big ways in Perris. I don't quite understand the fear of opening lower than 3000. I have many, many hop and pops from 2000 to 2500 feet. A few even under 2k. The joys of cessna dzs. You just have to be aware that yes you do have a lot less time for EP's and realize that you do not have time to try and fix something if you get a mal. You cutaway immediately.
  11. I'm of the opinion that students shouldn't jump with the same instructor on every supervised jump. I also feel that it isn't fair for one or two instructors to get the majority of the student jumps when there are other instructors available and wanting to work. I second that
  12. Not all accounting jobs are in a conservative enviornment. It's the company not the profession. I work for a large regional accounting firm and here my skydiving is looked upon very favorably. I've even gotten a shareholder or two to admit they would love to go but actually getting them there to jump would be another matter
  13. So what do you call those that happen to be born with both? (Not the case here just asking )
  14. Or have your local rigger make you a pair with all the padding you want for $20.
  15. I almost think the sport matured back in the 80s and 90s from hearing all the stories. More people then, more dropzones, more parities, a much tighter knit community. Of course the skill level today is much higher but there are fewer people and too many 'sky gods'.
  16. This is stupid. What would stop someone from jumping into the net and then crawling to the edge of the net and jumping again from there if they really wanted to? Many survivors of these types of attempts have said that the moment their hands let go of the bridge, they regreted their decision. A net would allow those that have regreted the decision to commit suicide a second chance to live their lives. And do you really think people would still try to commit suicide by jumping off the bridge knowing there was a net in place? I think not. They will just try to find some other way to off themselves. I think the the whole net idea is a waste of time and money. unfortunately, not having any deterance has wasted a lot of lives. Average is about 25 per year. You miss the point. If they can't do it off the bridge they will do some other way. The numbers remain the same.

  18. So have one...it ain't gonna kill you.
  19. Damn...just got the last glass out of it.
  20. That it is...especially with the 'boxed wine'.
  21. ah well, bring on the wine and cheese...
  22. Nah, this is fun. He just keeps digging deeper and deeper.
  23. It is what you make it. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way. And it's not that hard. Live with multiple roommates, use public transport, carpool, don't eat out, don't buy a bunch of toys etc. It's all about how bad you want it.
  24. Really? Go back to my very first post and show me where I brag or boast. So once again Quit yer bitchin' and cryin' and get over it. Really? Go back and re-read my post and show me where I bitch or cry.
