    Tandem Rating

Not sure how I feel about the 1000 jump requirement but I do think it should specify 3 years from A license.
  2. So I take it by the weather, New Years Day jumping is out of the question?

Yes he can. I know several who got their rating 'earlier' than three continuous years in the sport since they were able to count that first tandem. When I got my rating all that was required to prove three years was a photo copy of your signed logbook from three years ago, it didn't matter if it was a tandem jump, AFF jump, or licensed jump.
  4. Please do a search, this topic is all over the place on this forum. I have yet to find a single thread that compares the two side-by-side. From what I understand, there are some safety concerns with HMA lines in that they don't show wear as well as spectra. A problem with this is that you may find yourself breaking a line unexpectedly. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1982471;search_string=hma%20vs%20spectra;#1982471 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2027910;search_string=hma%20vs%20spectra;#2027910 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1854972;search_string=hma%20vs%20spectra;#1854972 These all have lots of information on both types.
  5. A couple of us are planning a trip to that area Jan 10/11. See ya then!
  6. Does anyone know what it costs for a new lineset and install on a Safire II 119? I will be calling them after the holidays but it might be a while before I get an answer so just looking for a ball park. And Merry Christmas everyone!
  7. Thanks all! Is Kapow open during January?
  8. It's all about the Capital Morgans and pepsi. After all, it's my birthday!
  9. No they are not necessary. You can still loosen your chest strap all you want without chest rings. My harness length is small enough that in order to get the correct fit, I am better off not having chest rings as they would length my harness slightly.
  10. Sounds like this works in Canada. But I would never do this in the US. From my experience (which includes a year of traveling weekly for work) it's much better to stay quiet and answer questions nicely, if asked. 1/3 of the time never they ask.
  11. Were you already a skydiver? Don't they have some sort of time in sport requirement (like 3 years in the US) before you can become a tandem instructor?
  12. I never announce that I have a parachute with me. Half the time it goes through the xray machine without a second glance so why invite extra screening when you might not even get it if you had kept quite. Second I always take it out of the bag so it is scanned by itself. Saves time and no risk of them swabbing the bag and picking up some trace of explosives from something else.
  13. Wow. I got my second one this summer and it was just a bunch of questions and a vision test. No piss test, no blood test, no physical. Granted the first one did include a piss test but not the current one.
  14. Holy cow, and he has on a rw suit too!
  15. So says someone who pays for maybe 10 jumps a year
  16. Depends on what I'm making at the time. I would like to think if the prices get too high I will just jump less and save the money for more event/camp time of jumps instead of just the same old weekend jumps at your local dz.
  17. I'm wondering if he really is. How come the FBI hasn't noted it yet? Usually they are all over it if they catch someone, especially a high profile.
  18. They why isn't he listed in the system? The jail site was last updated today. http://volusia.org/corrections/results.asp
  19. Anyone have the Mamba? That seems to me to have the most secure closing method for the visor. Much better than the Z1 I also looked at.
  20. Not trying to bust your bubble, but why would pressure from you carry any weight? JohnMitchell works for the FAA and he's here to help you! That's too funny
  21. Would you mind posting the story here? I don't join random groups on facebook.
  22. So you mean that you can have two checked-in luggage with total weight of 100lbs. If one weights 53 lbs and the other 47lbs, then you pay for the 3 lbs extra. Correct? you're alright, Sorry I mixed up pounds and kilos, not quite the same... but we've got the idea now. I also heard that some airlines now make passengers pay extra for the second checked-in luggage. So confusing. The best bet is to check with the airline. Almost. You cannot make up the extra 3 pound by adding to the weight of the second. The first bag if over 50pds will will incur the charges even if your second is only 20pds. Also most airlines now are charging a fee ($25-50) for the seond checked bag and some (US Airways) charge $15 for each of your first two checked bags.
  23. I don't know where trumanjsparks is getting his info. Truman said he was detained on Dec 3. but the new article referenced in the other thread is dated Dec. 4 and says he is still at large.
