Have hooded sweatshirts ever caused a malfunction or incident?
CarpeDiem3 replied to cocheese's topic in Safety and Training
Another excellent reason to add risk to your skydive! I wonder if you guys realize that by trying to defend the practice, you're actually helping to make it look like a bad idea. -

Strings? No nothing could possibly go wrong with dangly strings around your neck. Not to worry! -
How long they last is not necessarily the best measure for how good stow bands are.

As I said. Thank you. You're conveniently ignoring the difference between those items and hoodies: those items all provide benefits to the skydive, while a hoodie does not. What benefit does a hoodie provide to your skydive? Does it make you track further? Does it give you fall rate control? Does it make your canopy open better? What? -
List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?

If you don't already know whp Jerry Bird is Thats all folks Well, when I google "Jerry Bird" I find a musician, a basketball player, and a murderer. Which one do I pick? That's why we need to have a synopsis of what they're famous for. -
List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?

I'd like to suggest that when folks add names to this list, that they also list the accomplishment which makes that jumper worthy of honorable mention. That way we can learn as we go here. Otherwise they are just names that don't mean anything. Thank you. -

No. But most of it is essential to have, so you have to accept the risk that comes with it. Hoodies are not essential, so you do not have to accept that risk. -

That's a might big "if", which turns your endorsement into a very narrowly conditioned one. In other words, stash bags stowed in manners outside your specific recommendations, could indeed still cause problems. -

So are all base jumpers going to stop doing it now? Are you suggesting that there's nothing for them to worry about with stash bags, and that they should continue to carry them without concern? -
Well, all the fun spin-off threads related to this, have been moved to the recycle bin: "Plane hits church in Texas" "Plane hits antelope in Texas" "Texas declared "NO FLY ZONE" Apparently we're not allowed to have a little fun in the Bonfire forum. I thought this was exactly the place where shenanigans were allowed.

I had heard Orville was a real stickler. Those sand dunes could really rise up and smite thee.

You're obviously some kind of radical. You'll be accused of being a racist and of hating the poor. You uncaring cold-hearted beast! ;-)

Is there something wrong with being a Christian? Because if that means that they are untrustworthy, then we've got a huge problem, because 73% of Americans identify themselves as Christians... -

Incorrect. Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean that it can't. This could be the point where you found a new religion. If none could come up some real event than let's just sit and watch those jumping in hoodies. I have no religion - I'm an atheist and a pragmatic realist. The theistic dogma is the belief that it's impossible for anything bad to ever happen with hoodies. That takes blind faith that does not comport with reality according to history. I'm not saying that something bad WILL happen. I'm just saying that it's certainly possible. And it's impossible to say that it can NOT happen. Therefore, the prudent response is to not push your luck. -
Negative. Definition: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/prostitution Clothes-on cuddling with no touching of sex organs is not prostitution. There is no "promiscuous sexual relations" going on.

Right! Now you're thinking logically. Glad to see we've agreed on something. "I'll have the gallon of milk, fig newtons, pork chops, mac 'n cheese, and a Smith & Wesson MP9, please." But this means that grocery stores are going to have to be able to do background checks on grocery shoppers, before they can sell them grocery-protecting guns. That's gonna really slow down the check-out line.

Would that calculation be the same for a head-down dive? Because my Protrack tells me I'm achieving speeds of 240-250 mph in head-down speed dives... -

And we're seeing a lot of names put out here now that are more local-hero in nature. But this thread is rather about nationally recognized names, so I don't think those really fit here. Not to say that the local-heros don't deserve recognition, heck, they do - they're the backbone of this sport - those guys who are out there every weekend training students and dispensing wise advice. There are thousands of those unsung heros. But they're not going to be known outside their local area, and wouldn't appear here in this list. -
Have you thought about how longer risers might affect the canopy performance? It's not necessarily going to be the same as before...

Not noticing my audible in my new full face Phantom X?
CarpeDiem3 replied to mixedup's topic in Gear and Rigging
Make sure the little speaker hole is aligned with your ear canal. It could be the new audible pocket is located a bit different from your old helmet. You may need to flip the audible over to orient it 180-degrees different to get the speaker hole lined up with your ear again. -

That was a terrific exposition on the psychology of assholes and how to deal with them. Kudos. -
Well this is curious. Meso's uploads retained the original name. Ski's uploads had the name converted to the gobbledegook style, but still retained the proper suffix. I don't know what the heck is going on... The problem may be on MY computer!
