What's your opinion on that?

May I give it lead poisoning? You claim to be responsible with your guns and to remain cool under pressure, but here you are threatening to shoot someone who disagrees with you. It makes one wonder if you should really have those guns...
-
I think we should all be polite to each other, just because it's the right way to be, not because of a fear that they might shoot us. And you seem to be implying that gun owners indeed can't be trusted to carry guns, because they might actually shoot someone just for smarting-off to them. Being a smart-ass is not a death penalty offense. If you can't control your temper, you shouldn't be packing a gun. An armed society may be a polite society, but it's also one that lives in fear of our fellow citizens, and that ain't right.

I don't think any bullet when fired from two miles away, short of maybe a .50 caliber, retains enough velocity to penetrate a normal roof. Still a bad idea though, and gun nuts should refrain from doing it. This i can agree with- there are several documented cases of people getting killed because of irresponsible discharge of firearms. One of the main rules of firearms safety is to know your target and what lies beyond it- meaning you need to KNOW where your bullet will impact before you fire. Firing into the air is very irresponsible and can put anybody within a couple miles at risk for injury. Finally, a gun owner who will admit that firing guns in the air is a bad idea! Thank you. All the other gun nuts here have been unable to bring themselves to say those simple magic words. They just dance around and make circuitous arguments, to avoid admitting that basic truth. Glad to hear you say it.

Wow. Congratulations on being young and healthy. Other people are not as lucky as you, even though they may have perfectly healthy eating habits. Not all medical problems are caused by unhealthy eating, you know. So I guess you're against ObamaCare, and all those sick and old folks should just be left to die without spending any money on them? Until someone cuts you off in traffic or otherwise pisses you off. Will you keep your cool then? A lot of gun owners don't, which is why gun ownership is a problem. And with your bad attitude towards sick people, I wonder how much care you have for not shooting people.

Blacks comprise only 13% of the population. Even if every single one of them was "poor", there would still be more poor white people then there are poor black people. So this gun tax isn't something that discriminates only against blacks, and your racism argument doesn't hold water. But if you want to exempt poor people from some taxes because they are disproportionately affected, then where does that lead? Should poor people be exempt from taxes on cars? Clothes? Groceries? Gas? Would the government start issuing "I'm poor" cards to qualified poor people, and then merchants at the point of sale would have to determine whether or not to charge sales tax based upon whether or not they had a "I'm poor" card? Sheesh. If you want to take the serious step of making life or death decisions towards other people with a gun, then paying $25 isn't too much to ask.

frontriserpressure on Fusion vs Sabre2

I don't like that statement. -
A good firearm will cost $500 or more. An extra $25 shouldn't stop anyone from being able to afford it. That would be only 5% of the cost, less than the local sales tax. And if businesses go under, it's only gun stores - no big deal, and to society's benefit.

If we treated cocaine the way we do guns, it would be available for sale just for the asking in every street corner phamacy, to anyone who asked for it. What condition would society be in then? We would have so many zombie crack-heads stumbling around that it would be a disaster. Just like gun violence is. Dangerous products like cocaine and guns shouldn't be handed out like candy on halloween.

Add guns to all those stressed-out people and things will only be made worse. News: http://www.cnbc.com/id/49660237/ Quote: "John Hofmeister, head of Citizens for Affordable Energy told CNBC that the governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut should resort to dramatic measures to prevent the inconvenience from spiraling into further chaos or violence. “This could get to gunfire if it continues in the way it's going now,” warned Hofmeister..." I don't think that shoot-outs at gas stations is the proper attitude. Do you really need to drive someplace so badly that you would be willing to kill someone for a gallon of gas?

It passed! News: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/02/us-usa-guns-chicago-tax-idUSBRE8A11DH20121102 Quiote: "The county that includes Chicago on Friday approved a tax on firearms to help pay the healthcare costs from gun violence, the first major U.S. metropolitan area to impose such a tax as a form of gun control. Under the plan, Cook County, Illinois, will impose a $25 tax on each firearm sold." Now let's watch this good idea spread to other areas of the country!

I'm hanging out under a bridge where it's safe. 'nuff said Darn right. If you want to stand in the open when gun nuts are firing bullets in the air, go for it. Not me.
-
Sorry, I don't know who "DD" is. Haven't I already told you that once? Why are you hung up on this DD guy?

You can have good relations with a foe.

Oh. Never mind... So many people abbreviate that incorrectly, that you never know if they really mean "AAD" or "ADD".

How about educating us on what those things are. -
That wouldn't have been a "death by AAD". That would have been a human error in properly donning equipment. The AAD had zero to do with it.

Seeking Info on Incident Reporting
CarpeDiem3 replied to ArizonaStone's topic in Safety and Training
The military does their own very thorough accident investigations, and do not answser to dropzone.com or USPA. You can send the military branch a freedom of information act request to get a copy of their investigations. -
Probably on July 4th or New Years Eve. That's when American gun nuts like to shoot their bullets into the air. I'm hanging out under a bridge where it's safe. At weddings they just get drunk and obnoxious.

Not necessarily. Depends on the degree of arc, and other factors. A bullet fired at, say, an 80 degree angle will still lose all it's ballistic velocity in its climb through the air, just like one fired at 90 degrees straight up. Both will only freefall back to earth, with non-lethal force. It depends upon how high the bullet will climb based upon the power of the cartridge, and how far its velocity will carry it. A .30-06 might still be lethal fired at a 45 degree angle, but a .22 rimfire is not likely to be. It's not just a "straight up" phenomenon.
-
That's true, but irrelevant. It's the velocity that matters. A bullet fired parallel to the earth will be moving several thousand feet per second, while a bullet simply dropped from the same height will be moving only several feet per second.
-
Still a bad idea, just like gunfire. Wouldn't you agree?
