  1. Okay, but AK47's are called assault weapons, and someone here is saying that assault weapons are full-automatic, and the "A" in "AK47" stands for automatic. So an automatic AK47 is not the same as a semi-auto hunting rifle. Therefore, banning them as "too dangerous" can still be justifed based upon that difference. Do hunting rifles have 30-round magazines for sustained fire? I thought most states limit hunting magazine capacity to just 5 rounds?
  2. In the south we use them to hunt hogs. Couldn't you use something else to hunt hogs instead? I don't think you understand the hog infestation or the people that hunt them. Out in Texas they use helicopters with virtual target sighting and remote control firing mechanisms. That is sort of like a gunship. So you're saying that an AK47 is the only suitable weapon with which to hunt hogs? And that nothing else will do? I find that hard to believe. I tell you what stand in front of a 300lb male hog with 6 inch teeth charging at you. You have one shot to kill the pig. if you put the bullet in the forehead its not gonna penetrate the skull. If you put it in the shoulder the thick cartilage is gonna protect it. Think you can make that shot knowing if you miss the hog might kill you? Doubt it. SO yes being able to fire several rounds at the target quickly makes it a lot easier. And just to be clear wild hogs cause billions of dollars in damage to farmers and ranchers yearly, so yes they need to be eradicated. I don't argue that wild hogs aren't a nuisance and shouldn't be hunted. Granted. But the idea that an AK47 is the only suitable hog hunting rifle is just silly. Any semi-auto rifle of the same or higher caliber would be equally suitable for the job. If you want to preserve your right to own an AK47, you need to find some other justification besides hog hunting. That excuse doesn't cut the mustard.
  3. How do you know it was loaded? Maybe she got out some ammo and loaded it herself? The gun and the ammo should both be locked up so that children can't get to them. Even if the gun was unloaded, a child shouldn't have both freely available to where they can put the bullets in the gun and accidentally kill themself or someone else.

  5. I'm not anti-all-guns, just anti-some guns. Well, there seems to be another definition of an assault weapon out there, that involves semi-auto firearms. And Obama wants to ban those in private hands. Can't say that I blame him. And there you go with that contradiction again between "prohibited" and "small number of people have them". Somewhere I read that there are 250,000 BATF registered machine guns - that's a whole lot more than "a small number". First you confusingly mix up assault weapons as being only full-auto, and then you confusingly mix up prohibited with, well not quite, some people can still own them. You're not making it easy for me to understand all this.
  6. It's hard to speak up when you're dead. Cool avatar. I'm watching "300" on TV right now.
  7. If they're prohibited then there's nothing to regulate. If they're regulated, that implies that you can own them, but they're just tightly controlled. So those two things sound a bit contradictory. Which is it? I see people on TV shows shooting machine guns, so they must not be prohibited completely... You do realize the guns they use on TV aren't real guns, don't you? Not all of them. Shows like "Sons of Guns" aren't faking the firearms, they demonstrate full-auto firearms, and they're just civilians. So are you saying that full-auto guns are prohibited, and that the folks on that show are breaking the law when they build and shoot those guns? You haven't cleared up this confusion for me. Are machineguns prohibited outright, or just highly regulated?
  8. So maybe then we should ban small handguns. According to the FBI, violent crime went up 18% last year. Seems like a good time to do it. Yeah, that will solve the problem. Lets make crack cocaine illegal too. Oh, wait !! If crack cocaine deaths were up 18% in just one year, shouldn't we try and crack down on it?
  9. Again you show us your lack of knowledge towards firearms. You seem to be calling me ignorant, but you've offered nothing to refute what I said. Even a little .22 rimfire gun that shoots real fast and has a high magazine capacity could kill a lot of people, right? What are you trying to get at here? If you are thinking the "A" means "Assault" OMG you are too funny. AK stands for: Avtomat Kalashnikova (tried to post the actual Russian cyrillic word here but DZ.COM does not appear to handle Unicode) Translated into English it means: Kalashnikov Rifle Um, actually, "avtomat" means "automatic". So "AK" means "automatic Kalashnikov". In other words, the AK-47 was designed to be an automatic fire weapon. Something which you seem to be denying when you say that "automatics are prohibited or highly regulated". So I'm confused again - are AK-47's full-auto or semi-auto, and are they legal to own or prohibited?
  10. Indeed it was a good ending. Could have just as easily been a really bad ending. The intruder could have taken the gun away from her and used it against her. And I doubt he was looking in the closet for the girl - he didn't know the house was occupied. He was probably just looking for stuff to steal.
  11. How many kids successfully defend themselves from a bad guy with a gun, compared to how many kids are accidentally shot and killed with guns each year? The Brady campaign says that 2,200 children are accidentally injured or killed by a handgun each year. They couldn't do that if adults would lock up their guns.
  12. What does the "A" in "AK-47" stand for?
  13. There are a lot of things we don't 'need' in life, can you imagine what a bland and boring world it would be if you were only allowed to own that which you needed to own? When it comes to guns used to commit mass murder, I think we can manage without 'em. There are plenty of other guns you can have to satisfy your gun fever. So that's not really denying you some luxury which gives your life enjoyment.
  14. In the south we use them to hunt hogs. Couldn't you use something else to hunt hogs instead?

  16. If there are fewer guns in circulation, of the type used in crimes, then there will be fewer people who can use them to commit crimes. It's just common sense. Less guns, less crime.
  17. So maybe then we should ban small handguns. According to the FBI, violent crime went up 18% last year. Seems like a good time to do it.
  18. Doesn't matter much. An AK is still powerful enough to kill people, lots of them, in a small amount of time. It's not so much the size of the bullet, but the ability to shoot fast without reloading. The darned things are a menace to society.
  19. Having your own goggles is okay. But you should check with the dropzone before buying your own helmet. They may have special helmet setups with radio equipment attached to it so they can talk to you while under canopy. If so, they won't let you wear your own helmet. In fact, you could screw up with the goggles too. If you buy tinted or mirrored goggles, they probably won't let you wear them, because they need eye contact. If you have contact lenses, you don't want vents because the air might blow your lenses out. So hey, how about just letting the instructors determine what is best for you, until you gain enough experience to do your own thing.
  20. Obama did say in the debate that he wants to ban assault weapons, and well he should. Nobody needs to own those high-powered guns. The only thing they're good for is killing large numbers of people. You don't need an AK47 to deer hunt.
  21. Aren't there laws against leaving a loaded gun in the home accessible to a kid?
  22. Robin Meade is hotter. No matter what she's talking about.
  23. You can make fuel from coal. Hitler ran his army in WWII on the stuff. So, yes, you CAN run cars on coal.
  24. She fired through the closet door - what if it had been her mom?
  25. Well, even the embroidered patches were often used to cover up holes in the jumpsuits where someone had been dragged too much.
