The moderator for the next debate should be John Cleese.

I wonder what Obama promised her in exchange, for removing the heat from his own ass. -
What does Felix's jump mean for commercial space diving?
CarpeDiem3 replied to philh's topic in The Bonfire
I doubt space-diving will catch on due to the enormous expense and extensive prerequisite skills. But I bet that regular 'ol tandem jumping gets a spike, as droves of curious people flock to drop zones to get a taste of what it must be like. -

Got my 100th jump yesterday!

Your chest strap looks rather loose. I'm not letting some freak hang vertical off of mine like that. Ack! -
Subscribe to "Parachutist" magazine. When it arrives in your mailbox each month, read it with glee. Your wife will realize that you still want to do this, and are still serious about it. After constant monthly reminders, maybe she'll soften her stance.

A new comer in skydive software !
CarpeDiem3 replied to nabil's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It doesn't advertise well that you're selling computer software, and don't even know how to make a clicky-link to your web references... And you also get negative scores for using language like "create an abstract component to modelize the regulation mode...l" that nobody can understand. With the database stored on the internet instead of the source computer, what's to keep competitors from hacking into your database to find out who your customers are and what level of business you're doing? -
Altitrack digital altimeter fails on the way up to altitude

Buy a mechanical altimeter that does not depend upon batteries to function properly. -
So all skydivers with children should cease jumping immediately?
-
So you're going to quit driving cars too? And you're going to put off your dream for 18 years, because of your wife's irrational fear. Wonderful. Turn in your man card. Join the bowling league.

Skydive Arizona Aircraft Vandalism
CarpeDiem3 replied to CarpeDiem3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is that CO2 gas, or that powder stuff? And what's involved in cleaning up the mess - do you have to take the engine apart? -
Is that something that we ordinary users can do?
-
Jump anyway. And don't hide it from her. Just tell her you've dedicated your life to her and the kids, and it's time you did something for yourself. Then go out and do it. Are you going to spend the rest of your life letting her deny you the dreams that you have?

Have hooded sweatshirts ever caused a malfunction or incident?
CarpeDiem3 replied to cocheese's topic in Safety and Training
Someone dying during a skydive is still someone dying during a skydive. It's a bad thing regardless of whether it's a tandem passenger or an experienced jumper. We shouldn't downplay potential problems just because they only threaten experienced jumpers. -
Have hooded sweatshirts ever caused a malfunction or incident?
CarpeDiem3 replied to cocheese's topic in Safety and Training
Let's say that someone wanted to jump with a giant yellow Big Bird strapped to his chest. And someone told him that those flailing arms and legs might be a problem. And next he argued in rebuttal that no one has ever been hurt before jumping with a giant yellow Big Bird, therefore, it doesn't present a problem and should be perfectly safe. Would that be a valid argument in favor of everyone making Big Bird jumps? At one time, no one ever imagined that anyone could possibly fall out of a tandem harness. And everything went along fine for several decades, and tens of thousands of jumps. Did that mean that there was never any potential for a problem? No. Becaues then it happened. And again. And again. Do anything often enough for long enough, and something bad will happen because of it. Bottom line: If it provides no benefit to the jump, and isn't necessary to have, then there's no point in adding the risk, however small that might be. -

Those kinds of folks usually love to tout their free speech rights, but then they hate paying the consequences of said free speech. Can't have the first without the latter.

Lines have half-hitched on reserve flaps. They could half-hitch on a hoodie. The only reaon it probably hasn't been heard of yet is that there are a lot more reserve deployments with reserve flaps then there are reserve deployments with hoodies. -
Looking for Oh. Thank you. I was imagining some kind of specialized parachute equipment...
