distance w/ non-crossbrace for pro's?
superstu replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
anybody know what kind of distance the pro's were getting with their non-crossbraced canopies before they made the switch to xbraced? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -

I just got back from the dz and had one of the best days. It was pretty windy down here in cresswell, 45mph at 10k, so what better than to do a cross country. 2 others and i went from cottage grove airport to cresswell airport, roughly 9 miles. it was fucking cool looking down to I-5 and seeing cars going not much faster than we were. fuck that was fun. and on top of that i had 2 pretty damn good swoops which just made my day. just had to share, everyone have a good weekend!! oh yea and be safe. did you read skydiving magazine maybe last month or the month before? a guy at skydive oregon tested cypress fires under canopy and he was able to fire one under one of his vx's. if you haven't read it i would definately recommend reading it. what's the power band? is it the point where you have the most energy working with you? where is it during the swoop? and how can you identify it so that you know you're using it to it's maximum? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

I want to take a canopy course, focusing on high performance landing, who would be good to take a course from? I was thinking about trying to make a trip to perris to take a course from slaton is there any body else closer to oregon/ washington that would be just as good? I've been jumping a stiletto for the past 300 jumps and now i'm in the process of downsizing. but i was wondering if i should stick with the stiletto, which i really do like, or try something different that i haven't really considered. i've put jumps on cobalt's, jedei's, and alpha's. I would like to try a crossfire, but what else is there? In the long run i would like to go crossbraced and i know the recovery arces on them are pretty long so i'm kind of taking that into account, that's why i'm considering switching from the stiletto to something that will dive longer. Thanks by the way if anybody is selling something that might be what i'm talking about in the 120 range for $600 you can PM me. if you have more speed will you go farther in your swoop? I'm doing 180's and the idea came to me that if I start higher and do my front riser approach slower, smoother, and steeper, i should gain more speed there by lengthing my swoop. in contrast to starting a little lower and "whipping" the canopy around (still using front risers). would this assumption be correct? I would say that on a stiletto 135 (1.4ish WL)i'm starting my 180 right around 500', if i go to 600' and do the same approach just slower and smoother, what would i see different in performance? seperate question: why do most competitors do 270's and not more or less when talking about their approach? Those guys are unbelievable. i got to watch part of the distance and all of the accuracy, simply amazing. Luke went 405ft on the distance and i don't think there was a whole lot of wind helping him, unfortunately i didn't get to see it. There were a series of things that went on from what i've heard. one was that the owner flew an illegal demo jump on the 4th of july and had explicit instructions to not do the jump. so there were no waivers, insurance, ect. also what shut them down, temporerly, was that the FAA came and checked their only plane that was still flying and found that it had major maintance problems. so they could fly that untill that's fixed and checked out again. but the latest i've heard, yesterday, was that their gonna fire up one of their other cessna's that went down or had something wrong with it so they can get some loads up. I don't know about natural but i took to it pretty well. I had all the requirements for my A-liscense by jump 18 or 19, so the last 1 or 2 was fun just with my JM. I was alowed to skip one of my SL levels (i think one of the 10 second delays). and it has pretty much been that way all through out my skydiving life. I am proud to say that for my 200th i got to leave 2nd to last on a 20 way from the trail plane and get to my slot no problem. i thought that was really cool.
