i've been using rears for some time now, but this question originated because i was watching Jay of PD on one of the distance rounds at IPC nationals and it looked like he was barely even in the rears before he switched to toggles. so i thought that he had a purpose to that. or it could have just been the camera angle. Eugene Skydiver held their swoop competition this past saturday and despite some 'minor' winds everything went off well. we held 3rounds distance and 3 rounds accuracy. For the distance a few people were breaking the 300' mark while the majority of people were landing somewhere between 200 and 300'. Brian Sessions won the distance part of the comp. with 700+ combined feet. However, diveout dan posted a 310' and a very close 365+ but verticled by only inches. For the accuracy the winds picked up to between 8 and 12 knots and was crosswind the entire time. Jim Renfro won the accuracy overall followed by Brian sessions and dan again. Overall there was a 3 way tie for 1st between Jim, Brian, and Dan. No one got hurt, however one person did do a bit of a 'face' shred on one of the accuracy rounds as he cart-wheeled out the back of the course, but he's ok. I would definately like to the PD for all the great prize give aways, Body sport and Velocity Air Sports for their support with t-shirts, Icarus canopies for 2 35% off gift certificates, and Brian Germain for donating one of the 1st editions of his new book for prizes. Does the way you move your control inputs effect the way your parachute flies? specifically, does pulling your rears out, down, or back effect the canopy any differently then if you were to push them forward (toward your fronts)? would this effect efficiency? I really haven't been practicing all that much for this thing in particular. i've been trying to organize it and make sure we have everything. and don't worry if you don't go home 1st you'll still get a lot out of it both in prizes and in experience. for the judges, yes we need a gates judge and i'm thinking 3 other judges. I have a camera that can be used and one other person could probibly donate a camera to be used as well.
