NW Canopy pilots: Swoop Competition @ Eugene Skydivers
superstu replied to superstu's topic in Events & Places to Jump
*Competition June 5th @ Eugene Skydivers* wut up everyone, just letting you know that there will be a swoop competition at Eugene skydivers saturday june 5th w/ a rain day on sunday the 6th. 3 rounds of distance and 3 rounds of accuracy will be schedualed. $25 is registration fee (goes toward the pot) then pay for your jumps, $8/ jump. This will be an open event or one class (no advanced/ intermediate classes). Required of competitors: helmets, in-date rigs, log book (if you've never jumped here before), and 300 HP landings. I will also be working on getting prizes to go along with the cash purse as well. You can do practice jumps on friday and the competition orientation will start at 8am. We will NOT be swooping over a pond, so keep that in mind when you want to go big. The primary purpose of this event is for people to learn safely. We have some pretty good pilots here in the NW and there is a lot to be learned. So come out seek help or help others. Talk to you guys later Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -

harness input: xbraced vs 9 cell
superstu replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i jump a crossfire 1 and i was loading the velo at about 1.9 and the vx at about 2.1ish i think, exit wieghts some where between 180-185. i was thinking i might need to load them a touch more to get the harness input, but that doesn't really sound right to me for some reason. pack volumes for xbraced canopies
superstu replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
how does a velo 90 and a vx 84 pack up compared to a 9cell? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -
i think jim said somewhere that competitors will be using the helo for the comp. but don't quote me on that Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

harness input: xbraced vs 9 cell
superstu replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
here's a question for those in the know. i've noticed a difference between the reaction i get during harness input between my crossfire 97(@1.85) to various xbraced canopies (velo96 and vx89). basically, it takes less motion in the harness to get a response out of my xfire then it does with either of the other 2 canopies. why is this? are they less eliptical then my xfire? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -
QuoteStu, I noticed you fly a crossfire so I won't suggest doing back spinsreply] back spins? what are those and how do you do'em? great ideas guys, i'll definately give that individual line input a try. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

i've just been reading some post lately and doing some searching on various topics, and i kinda noticed something. what does it mean (to you) to wring out a canopy? a lot of the posts on here tell us to do this, but really we haven't defined what this is. basically when you think you've done everything possible on your current canopy what are those things you can do? for example these are some of the things i consider: 180-270 turn, rear riser plane out and landing completely(ie not going to toggles), knowing when to say no, meeting your personal distance goal, and so on and so forth. what are some of the things you guys require of a canopy pilot to say they have gotten the most out of their current main? Becoming a kickass canopy pilot
superstu replied to bertusgeert's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
here are my .02. set your own goals in canopy piloting it can range from just surviving the freefall, to becoming a sick swooper, or a CReW dogg, just define what you want to do with your canopy. then find the best guy on the dz that is willing to help you buy him/her a beer and pick their brain. see if they'll do jumps with you, film your landings, give you tips. also, don't just learn from one person or one discipline learn from all things. hey manbird, how did you make that video? i've tried making some simple vids but they are really big, is there a way to compress the size without taking away quality? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

steve, that is a pretty sweet video, very cool. So it sounds like there are at least a few people that would be interested in starting some sort of canopy club at various dz's around the NW, which is good. I think i'll be up at SDO this saturday, what time do wheels usually go up on sat.? i wouldn't mind if we could get a few people out early before the winds pick up to swoop the pond. we can also discuss what we want to do for this summer season, i.e. competitions, trips, and so on. I personally would really like to go to kapowsin because i have never been. Brian Giles is out with a slight injury due to the recent addition of our pond. but dan, kim, you guys want to meet up at SDO saturday, then be back down in crestucky sunday? see ya guys later Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
