  1. This reminds me of younger days. Every so often, someone would spend the evening being a jerk. Then, a couple of days later, they would run into the other parties. There would be a discussion and the realization that someone was at fault. That person would admit a mistake and make a sincere apology. The other party would accept the apology and forgive. People can agree on what is right among themselves. Forgiveness lets people move on. Seems like that got lost somewhere.
  2. Rafts are too much trouble and $40. Inflatable pool toys are $6 and easier to launch.
  3. Next time you are at a Chinese restaurant with friends, try it with the cookie fortune. Have everyone read their fortune out loud and add "in my pants".
  4. Everybody always forgets that she says his name first. (Kind of a "helloooo, meester robot? Wakee, wakee." ) "Don't take any guff from these swine." I think Klaatu was the alien/human. The robot's name was Gort. In the original (which actually makes sense), the woman is visibly scared. She says the robots name and pauses to swallow before continuing. "Gort... Klaatu barada nictu". If people have only seen the new "Whoa!" version of the movie, few can tell where the name of the movie came from, even though it is central to the plot of the movie.
  5. My previous job was for a credit card processing company. They need to know if you have $40K on a credit card that you might be tempted to remove. Jobs with large banks. Once again, they don't want you setting up fake accounts, credit cards, etc. So, the credit check is a "probability of future theft" check. I also get a free FBI criminal records check (fingerprints). The interest in drug testing is starting to wane (probably because it is relatively valueless).
  6. "I can't believe that young woman is wearing an outfit that I wore when I was her age."

  8. He may go both ways, but I'll bet "he" doesn't go "to the vet" anymore. They tend to remember that experience.
  9. I can see this opening up a whole new frontier in porn. Similar to the first time that someone figures out they can sit on the fax machine without any underwear. "Just part of the information age. Here's some information."
  10. That's what I thought, too, so I looked it up. According to my dictionary: Capitol (usu. the Capitol) 1 the seat of the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC. • (capitol) a building housing a legislative assembly: 50,000 people marched on New Jersey's state capitol. 2 The temple of Jupiter on the Captoline Hill in ancient Rome. capital noun 1 (also capital city or town) the most city or town of a nation, usually its seat of government and administrative center. • [with adj.] a place associated more than any other with a specified activity or product : Milan is the fashion capital of the world. As it turns out, I was wrong; the right word was used. It just had a typo. I can't figure out how "Capital Grille" make any sense for a name.
  11. The President has announced that he is putting healthcare reform on hold until he can establish a "coherent and defined framework for sock policy dialogue". "This will translate into revisions for several federal agencies including the TSA and sock transportation on commercial aviation." Well, it's about time someone faced this matter with all the necessary gravity that it deserves.
  12. In the past (of course, everything is), there have been various items that have legitimate uses, but are eventually abused. valium televisions electric cat polishers body paint I thought this might be on the horizon... ear scope It some cases, it's just a good idea that you can't see it. Sure, give it time, you'll read about it in the paper.
  13. Please, before it ruins your life and the lives of those around you, seek help. If you have sock issues, PM me. I can provide the phone number of a CSC (Certified Sock Counselor). Today at work, I realized how far this insidious disability has affected people. One of the people behind me could hold it in no longer. She talked about her husbands sock issue for close to two hours this morning to two other caring souls. (Fortunately, lunch time arrived before she became thoroughly depressed.) The previous night, her husband was folding laundry when her friends stopped by. Before she could stop them, they saw her secret shame. Instead of folding his athletic socks into a tidy ball, he merely ties them in a knot and throws them in the drawer. Until now, she has kept them tucked away in the secret drawer. Who could bear it? Remember, this is a learned behavior. He probably was taught his laundry skills from his parents. Seek counseling. Break the chain of horror.
  14. Locally, we have a restaurant called the "Capital Grille". If it was the place of business for a govt, it would be "capitol". "Capital" could mean an upper case letter, so "G". "Let's go eat at the big G." Or it could mean a capital offense, something punishable by death. So, the food must be pretty bad. Or, I'm over-thinking this.
  15. Come to think of it, when he was in his first 4-way scrambles at Zhills a couple of years ago, I believe his team took first out of 12 teams. F-in unbelievable.
  16. life...or 45 minutes, whichever comes first. I don't want to own one... just borrow her for a little while.
  17. It's better to do it in Ga, when the dye pack goes off, it only stains half a dozen dead squirrels.
  18. He doesn't look a day over 2500. Norm is a great guy. When every retired SEAL calls someone "sir", that is all you need to know.
  19. Ah... yes. Today's important news. Why can't engineers get laid? The answer at last. A tendency to displace the importance of things. For example: Thinking that pocket protectors are important. ...that there is a "history" involved. ...that you should create a webpage discussing that history Alternative examples of the displacement can be found in anything describing "fashion". Fashion is merely to promote marketing by routinely defining and changing the value of still-usable goods. "Cute shoes"
  20. If someone is poor, how can I steal money from them? Either you cannot answer your own question, and should not be allowed to vote. Or, you are wasting my time.
  21. In our past, the Dow was an indicator of the health of a group of companies. That was related to the health of the economy. (Healthy companies employ people) Then, with a global economy, the solution to a good quarterly dividend is cost cutting by outsourcing. Verizon - cut 21,000 jobs in 2003, plans for another 8,000 in 2009. IBM - 5000 in 2009. GM's plan for recovery? Start building cars in China. Want to see it work? Find a US company with 20,000 employees and outsource half to another country. The company stock will do great. The DOW is no longer relevant to the health of the US economy.
  22. Yes. That is why there is a concept called "Cultural Diversity". It is not called "Racial Diversity". If a black American and a white American are raised in adjoining houses and go to the same school, there is still a perceived "cultural" difference that is taken into account in governmental programs that balance this discrepency. A white person from South Africa is not called African-American, even though they were raised in African culture. Whereas, a black American who has never been to Africa at all, is A-A. Culture is genetically determined, except for the purposes of discussing eugenics, then it is a myth.
  23. I am. I understand the difference between "major" stuff and "minor" stuff. I place a small amount of importance on minor stuff and a large amount of effort into major stuff. Arguments will continue until resolved. People will fight about inconsequential things until they have destroyed any positive feelings. I avoid fighting about the minor stuff by admitting guilt immediately and apologizing, regardless of my guilt. Otherwise, a major amount of effort will be put into "resolving" a minor problem.
  24. A ways back, poor people of ethnic description were not getting home loans. The banks blamed it on basic banking processes. You have to have the possibility of paying a loan back before a bank will be interested in loaning the money. Others portrayed it as racist. Liberal supporters then proposed the use of govt guaranteed housing loans. Later, the loans weren't payed back. Banks had, at the request of the govt, intentionally made loans to people without the ability to pay them back. It was recently described as a racist plot to steal the money of poor ethnic people. I don't believe that the conservatives, or bankers, ever thought this was a good idea.
