FAA violation for packing a 20 year old rig?
DBCOOPER replied to skybytch's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well I hope people vote with their feet and not support mfgs that take the easy way out by life limiting their products. Controling the inspection process by having it sent back to the factory for inspection like PD does is the proper and fair way to do it. If a rig is worn 8 hours a day for 15 years it would probably end up as a car cover(if it made it that long) before 20 years based on a riggers decision not some arbitrary document that was not issued with the rig when it was new. Got a friend, fixed base operator, got the same email, except for flight training. Screwed with them all the way till they sent the bogus check. At least he had some fun and cost them the overnighting fee for sending the check. Laws about skydiving away from dropzones.
DBCOOPER replied to jamester28's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteThey call them "Bandit Jumps". Look at the search link someone else posted for a lot more info. ' Short version: The pilot has to file a NOTAM and be in contact with ATC, it has to be done in appropriate classed airspace (pilot will know) and you have to have permission from the landowner. It has to be over a "not congested" area, and it can't be in front of a crowd. If you are doing it into a publicly owned area (public beach or park or something) you probably can't get permission. reply] There is no regulatory requirement to file a notam. There is no definition of a congested area in the FARs. Feds don't care until something goes wrong, then you better have your ducks in a row. While they call FAA 7711-2 a wavier they don't wavier anything... So when its time to R&R the risers where does the traceability come from? Even if you get them from the mfg there is no way to trace/identify them... EDIT TO ADD There is no way someone with 31 jumps should attempt changing risers with slinks or even links for that matter, without rigger supervision.
