  1. Carrie: I can totally relate to that. I get the same way, because I don't want to spend money that I think is there and end up bouncing a check or something. Can you crossreference your register with the online record transaction by transaction and try to find the point where you got off? Sometimes these errors show up in the most innocuous places. I suggest making an Excel spreadsheet comparing the two registers. I had to do this last month and found out that my roommate never cashed a check I wrote him. Good luck finding it! 6. This thread has hit a hundred (and taken all sorts of twists and turns). I officially cyber-pie this thread and all people who have posted on it!
  7. True, too high is better than too low anyday, eh? Plus, if you're going to throw that kind of money down for a jump, you should get your money's worth with a nice long canopy descent! (That's what I've been telling people, anyway ) A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  8. Heh heh...and I'll work on making this below 8000 ft!
  9. ...left of this job!!! [nelson munt voice]HA ha[/nmv] That's right, today is my last day of this temp job. I think I'm going to celebrate with a level IV jump tomorrow and some beer (for medicinal purposes, of course ... thanks Bill Von). Rhino, feel free to blow up insurance companies tomorrow! 10. In another thread, people were talking about an Enterprise formation. Are there any pictures or videos of this lying around? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  11. Congrats, Sebazz! My last cigarette was on August 17, 1998 and I haven't looked back! A lot of people have been mentioning a 21 day span to rid the body of nicotine. I never knew this, but it makes sense: the third week was always the one that got me until I finally quit. So, if during your third week of quitting, you feel like you'll never be able to make it, just wait a few more days. It's all downhill from there! One thing that helped me quit was a monstrous lifestyle change (I also stopped shrooming and smoking pot, then, too). This isn't feasible for everyone, but it helped me. I quit smoking just before I moved from one town to another. This was helpful because cigarette cravings are all about cues. If you hang out with people with whom you've always smoked, the cue will still be there. If you hang out with new people, even if they smoke, you won't feel as tempted to light up, even if they are, because there is no history with them. Try to figure out what situations make you crave and try to avoid them. Hang in there, man, you'll get through it! Steve A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  12. WOOOOOOOO-FREAKING-HOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  13. Hmmph. I'll take a low hook turn over a bad pun anyday...
  14. Hold on! Tomorrow's my last day! Can you wait until Thursday? A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  15. Well, "Closer" is the official name of that song. Great track, really. I study music theory, and I really want to write an article about that one, actually that whole album. The Downward Spiral is brilliantly conceived. That and I would just LOVE to see "I want to fuck you like an animal" printed in a scholarly journal. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  16. Oooh...ouch, that's painful... Skymama, give Carrie some extra spanks for that one! A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

  18. Alright, I'm on to you two. You copied this exchange verbatim out of chapter 3 of How to Make Men Drool. That was only supposed to be an example! You're supposed to actually vary it in practice. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  19. How is this the opposite of what Jasmin kvetched about? By rewarding the schlub who walked onto the freeway drunk, we are perpetuating the stupidity instead of weeding it out. Still, stupid people will insist on killing themselves, regardless of how difficult society makes it for them. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  20. Oh, well, if you're from Indy, then never mind! Actually, the old Circle City ain't too bad. I actually worked at the Children's Museum down there two summers ago. That was a pretty cool job. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  21. I think you're right. It was a semantic difference more than anything tangible. Keep on conquering!
  22. Wow! I'm on my second to last day working a temp job for a not-for-profit health insurance company, and the cheapest unsubsidized plan we offer is $223.88 per month for a single person. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  23. Ha! Bet these two phrases aren't often uttered in the same breath! A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
  24. I'm going to nitpick, here. I would argue that fearlessness and stupidity are much more related than that, although I do agree they are not the same thing. However, fearless does NOT mean courageous. If you are fearless, than by definition you have no fear. Fear is a very useful (if sometimes unwelcome) human quality - in many cases it is fear that keeps us out of danger and thus alive, no? Therefore, being fearless actually means that you are deficient in the instinct of self-preservation. Courage is the ability to function in the face of fear (you demonstrated courage, not fearlessness in crawling under your bed looking for monsters, because you actually were afraid of them). In order to be courageous, one cannot be fearless. As you put it, if skydiving is conquering your fears, then skydiving is courageous. I recognize that you were never nervous about skydiving, but you do write that other things in life have brought your nerves up, so I argue that you are not fearless. The good news is, I think it is far better to be courageous than to be fearless. A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
