  1. With the Controlled Substance Act in the U.S., I would think alcohol would be a Schedule II (or possibly even a Schedule I) drug. All things considered, it is definitely more dangerous than some of the other Schedule I/II drugs. I don't think it should be illegal, but it makes sense that anything less dangerous (which would include many drugs that are currently illegal) should also be legal.
  2. It doesn't offend me personally, but I can understand why it is offensive to some people, so I generally avoid using it. And I see you've been taking lessons from JohnRich in how to make a poll. I'm not going to vote because neither answer works for me.
  3. I don't know. And, for now, I don't feel that I know enough to even make an educated guess about it. But I see no reason to credit it to some sort of divine creator whose origin/existence also has no explanation.
  4. I don't really follow any sports, so I guess I don't have a favorite sporting moment. But I am currently reading John Bertrand's Born to Win, where he talks about his team's 1983 winning of the America's Cup. Which sounds like it was a pretty cool moment, since that was the first time in about 130 years that anyone beat the American team.
  5. I got the second one, but it was so awful that I lost interest in seeing the third one. Though I have to admit that I was rather intoxicated when I watched it, so maybe I should give it a second chance while sober.
  6. I was just reading an article about wind energy, and it said that the U.S. Dept. of Energy has set a "goal of producing five percent of the nation's electricity from wind by 2020." Definitely not as ambitious as Denmark. (But the article was from around 2000, so their goal may have changed since then.) I'm looking into it because my grandmother owns a small farm in West Texas, and I'm thinking it might be a good investment for her to use the property as a wind farm, so I'm trying to learn some more about it for her.

    Myspace?

    Depends on the van . . .

    Myspace?

Well, candy's OK, but it's not going to lure me to the van. Hmm, unless it's some really damn good candy. Maybe a Milka bar..... or a White Russian, perhaps.

    Myspace?

OK, here's a hint for you, Steve: You don't pick up older women by offering them candy.

    Myspace?

I wasn't referring to the revenue alone when I said it was successful. Despite some of the things I don't like about it (like the difficulty with editing the layout), I think it is one of the best social networking sites available. For whatever reason, it attracts a huge number of people. And, for me, it allows/encourages me to stay in contact with so many more people than I would otherwise. I don't spend a lot of time there, but I do like the site, and I would say that it's pretty successful. Sure. That can be said for a lot of things. Dropzone.com has probably been used by stalkers and web bullies too, but overall it's a pretty good site.

    Myspace?

Judging from the success of myspace, I'd say it wasn't such a bad idea.
  12. That sounds like it would be fun! I think all of those sails would freak me out, but maybe I'd get used to it. Oh, and to the OP: Yeah, that's a cool picture.
  13. Well, the people who like to do E would probably give a shit. Just like the people who like to get drunk would give a shit if the world ran out of booze. Personally, I think it's a stupid thing for cops to be wasting their time with. Just make it legal and that will either put these people out of business or give them a non-criminal business to be in.
  14. I want to sail on one of those ships sometime. I've seen the Californian down in San Diego Bay. It was moving so slow that we were sailing in circles around it on the Stars & Stripes. But it looks like it would be interesting to sail on it.

    S.O.S.

It might be good for your self esteem to decide that you don't care what anyone else thinks and go see a movie by yourself. (And think of it as a big "F you!" to your ex. ) I prefer to do things with others too, but if I want to do something and have no one who wants to go with me, then I don't let that stop me (if it's something that I can do on my own). I find that it's a different experience to do something alone, but usually not less enjoyable. And it doesn't mean that you can't still be sociable.
  16. Well, they'll just have to go out and get drunk instead.
  17. I was trying to remember the name of those sandwiches the other day. I made them at home one time, and they were so good! And the ladies who used to run the cafe at Skydive San Marcos used to make good Monte Cristos too. Fried sandwiches.

Why? Is that what you think when you see someone doing something alone?
  19. Did someone say "spanking"? Happy Birthday, Mike!
  20. I watched that for the first time for about two minutes last night. My first question was, if he's stranded in the wilderness, then why does he (obviously) have a camera crew with him? And then I wondered what the hell that stuff was that he was drinking out of the snake. And then I lost interest and started watching something else.
  21. Are you talking about the google website or a google toolbar that's in your browser?
  22. I don't know. I think a lot of people grow up listening to their parents' political beliefs and then just keep those same beliefs without questioning them too much. I've talked to people who vote either Democrat or Republican because "that's how they've always voted, since that's how their parents always voted." I was around eight years old when I realized that my beliefs were different from the Baptist church I had always gone to. I think the age is going to be different for everyone.
  23. Yeah, I didn't mean for my reply to sound too serious. Perhaps I should have added more
  24. According to this article, he did experiment with LSD, so that could have contributed to his ability to "think outside of the box." But of course he didn't discover DNA on his own. I think a lot of the stuff that Freud came up with while coked out was pretty "out there." Cocaine tends to make people think they have great ideas, but they usually turn out to be not such great ideas. I'm not sure that I would call the invention of Coke as one of the "greatest things ever accomplished." I have no idea who Dock Ellis is or what a No-Hitter is. I suspect that a lot of the "amazing" things that happened to inspire some of the writings in the Bible were brought on by hallucinogens of some sort.
  25. You know, I keep thinking I'd like to read one of his books, but there is something just so annoying about the dude that I can never be bothered. And I'm curious about what age of "child" he is referring to. If he's talking about a five-year-old, then I'd agree. But much older than that and children do begin to think about these things for themselves. And I think that when they are old enough to know whether they are a Muslim (or whatever) or not depends on the person, but for quite a few people it would be before the age of 18.
