Well let us see. When the registration on your automobile(s) expire do the police come knocking on your door there to confiscate it? on the same day the registration expired? No? Didn't think so. Usually the government sends you some reminder notices and when the time comes if you do go to register it, there may be a small fine for the lapse registration. Last year in the city of Toronto, the Toronto police entered several hundred residences telling the people inside that they were in possession of illegal firearms and that the police were there to seize these illegal firearms. http://www.torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2009/09/23/11066131-sun.html https://totalrecoil.wordpress.com/2009/10/06/police-confiscating-guns-from-lapsed-license-holders/ There were no crimes which were committed, only lapse registrations. Oh and in Canada, the "Canadian Firearms Center" does not send out notices to the owners a month or two ahead of when their registration will expire. Have you ever not been sent a notice that your car registration was about to expire? Instead people have received phone calls and within minutes of receiving the phone call there they were, the police knocking on people's doors telling them to surrender their illegal firearms. You can choose to ignore all of this (probably even call me a liar). But I know of hard evidence where Canada's Gun Registry has been abused. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Do yourself a favor and resist all attempts at a Registry. The primary purpose of a Gun Registry is to act as a shopping list for gun grabbers. Oh and gun grabbers don't have to be just governments. Criminals/organized crime can also be gun grabbers. Canada's Gun Registry has been breached on more than one occasion by hackers (plus it's information has been purposely given to polling firms ... why? only a Liberal can answer why polling firms should be given access to this data). There was a well respected firearms collector who was lying in a Toronto area hospice last year waiting to die when his home was broken into. Funny how only certain select items were taken from his collection. It was if if people knew what was there and knew he was not at home. Of course once one of this man's friends (who was periodically checking on the man's apartment) reported to the police of the break in, the police (with media in tow) came to the apartment to seize what was left. It was a media circus with all the antis up in arms whining why this man was allowed to have firearms in his apartment. Oh did I mention that he was well respected, never committed a crime and always followed the existing licensing, registration, storage and transportation regulations? That didn't stop the media from portraying him as a psychotic soon to be killer. Yes resist all attempts at a Gun Registry. It does nothing to stop crimes and is nothing more than a shopping list for the gun grabbers. I am all for mandatory training, mandatory testing and licensing the person who wants to own firearms. License the owner not the inanimate object. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Ever since I was a little kid and visited some family friend's farm and met their less than friendly dog, I have always been a fan of German Shepherds. If I was a drug dealer I would have more than one German Shepherd in the house. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Who do you think you are? Andy Kaufman? Playing mind games again? Okay I will bite ,,, but I will need to call it a night soon. I remember about 4-5 years ago hearing a story where some drug house in the Seattle area was broken into just around sunrise. Everyone in the house was just falling asleep after a hard night of ingesting drugs and alcohol. There was plenty of weapons in the house, but I believe everyone (or most of them) were murdered by their assailants. Why? It's kind of hard to defend yourself when you are sleeping. Sometimes a gun will protect you and sometimes it won't. People still like the idea of having one around. With one they may be able to defend themselves. Without one they are defenseless. Of course if you limit your opportunities of falling into the wrong crowd your chances of dying from a bullet are greatly reduced. That was my strategy when I lived in Colorado. Worked for me (knock on wood). Of course what does this all have to do with Jared Loughner's assassination attempt on Gabrielle Giffords? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
But a smaller magazine would not have prevent his assassination attempt on Gabrielle Giffords. It really sucks that other people died or were wounded. But the same rhetoric would still be with us. He targeted Ms Giffords with a premeditated assassination attempt. For some reason he has been pissed off at Ms Giffords for a number of years now. Why? Maybe we will find out one day soon, maybe we won't. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I think we can find some common ground for some sort of agreement here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I would be curious to see a psych test on the late Andy Kaufman. That guy was something. He didn't actually like thinking of himself as a comedian. No what he really enjoyed doing was "messing with other people's minds". Some even think he is still alive since he used to joke about faking his own death. But I think he is dead since he did lose a lot of weight prior to the world being told he was dead. Anyway I only bring him up because who would actually be administering the psych test. Would the so called expert be doing the test on Andy Kaufman or would Andy Kaufman be doing the psych test on the so called expert? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Our politics are pretty fucked up. But as fucked up as we are, we are not nearly as bad as the USA and even though it can get rather cold for some of us for half of the year, we do live in one of the better countries in the world, which is also really fucked up since Canada is fucked up. But not as bad as the USA. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Rather naive of you to think the police will be there to protect you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYkEe3HEwew You probably also think we live in a democracy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Perhaps he was a fan of Shakespeare? Or perhaps it was only a coincidence. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Some will, many won't. Some might blow themselves up while using their bombs. Now where have we seen that happen before? Why are you so fixated on the inanimate object? Shouldn't you be more concerned with "Why did Jared Loughner want Gabrielle Giffords dead"? I don't know about you, but I am curious. Hopefully he will talk and hopefully soon we will get to the bottom of this mess and find a way to move forward. I sure the fuck don't want to live in a society where assassinations become the norm. But I will patiently wait for the real evidence to surface instead of joining in on the media's witch hunt. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
Take away their ability to use firearms and maybe they will start making bombs. Hmmm ... where have we seen that before? Once again you seem rather fixated on the inanimate object where really you should be asking yourself, what possessed Jared Loughner to commit his premeditated murderous crime? But if you do find yourself asking yourself that question, do yourself a favor and remove yourself from any media sources because they will want you to believe that Sarah Palin, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh are the ones to blame, even though there is not a shred of evidence to back up their libel. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

He could have purchased some fertilizer, some ball bearings and rented a truck. But he didn't. His actions were premeditated. He could have chosen to commit his crime in a different location, at a different time with a different tool. The common denominator in all of this was himself (the murderer) and his primary victim (Ms Griffords). For whatever perverse reason, he has had issues with her for a number of years now and many innocent people (including Ms Griffords) now suffer because of this mad man. Blame the murderer, not the inanimate object(s) he used to commit his crime with. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am not the one who said that. All I said was having a larger magazine allowed him to fire more rounds. Having more bullets does not equate to more kills. You can have 30 rounds and not hit anything. Or you can have 5 rounds and score 5 kills (maybe even more). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I wasn't there Turtle, I do not know who was standing where, how close people were to each other. He could have carried more the one weapon (like Klebold and Harris used) and that is a way to counteract smaller magazines. There is just no way to tell. But as I said only law abiding people would use small capacity magazines if they are legislated and in some cases it will help reduce some risks, but it will never eliminate them. Anyone planning a premeditated murder with half a brain can modify mechanical objects. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
It's true that the gunman would not have fired as many rounds if he had a smaller magazine. Who knows maybe a few of the victims wouldn't have been victims if he had a smaller magazine. But from what I understand about the sequence of events, a smaller magazine would not have saved Ms Giffords because wasn't she the first one shot? You can legislate new laws to enforce smaller magazines. Smaller 5 round magazines are enforced here in Canada. Law abiding people will follow the new rules to use smaller magazines and the risks will be reduced for possible incidents. But they will never be eliminated. Mechanical objects can be modified and anyone who is planning pre-meditated murder like Jared Loughner appears to have done (word is out he has had issues with Ms Giffords since 2007, one year before anyone ever heard of Sarah Palin, back when Glen Beck still worked for CNN). Unless more real evidence surfaces to prove otherwise, Jared Loughner is the guilty monster who committed a murderous act and he is to blame. There is a lot of extra hate floating around North America since this event and the media is largely responsible for the extra rhetoric being thrown around these last few days. The media has acted incredibly irresponsible jumping to their conclusions of who they wanted to blame before any facts of this event were known. People need to stop being so easily influenced by the media. This includes FOX, MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, CBC, CTV and Global ... all of them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

That's correct. Heck some people even made a fictional movie about GWB's assassination. Someone could even visit this movie's trailer page on YouTube and view all the current remarks that are being posted there today. There are no shortage of remarks like "Oh I wish this had come true" and "It's not too late the kill the mother fucker". But does the media report about this? Do people try to stop that rhetoric? Nope ... the media's focus is still on Palin and the Tea Party. Who cares about a fictional movie about presidential assassinations. Just curious who would the media be blaming right now if McCain had never made Palin his vice-presidential candidate? The media are vultures and they are all too happy to throw live bodies into this wreckage. The hate filled rhetoric being spewed today is the result of the media's reckless actions yesterday in looking to find blame. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The media is feeding off of this today. I can't believe the pure "I hate America" hatred being displayed by some in Canada today thanks to this event and it is the media who continues to throw live bodies into the wreck. For the record I hope Barack Obama lives to be 100+ years old. The shear thought at what assumptions some people would jump to if Mr Obama does not live to a ripe old age is staggering. Oh and despite what some sick people are saying today, I don't want to see Ms Giffords or any of the other shooting victims die. I hope Ms Giffords has a full (or meaningful) recovery though I think it is safe to say the life she knew is over and she is about to embark on many new challenges. I just can't believe the pure hate that is circulating out there today. Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know, Mr Loughner still isn't talking, so nobody knows why he did it. But that does not stop the media from exploiting this unfortunate event. People easily influenced by the media and who are looking to blame anyone other than Jared Loughner need to dial back the rhetoric. Until Mr Loughner talks, don't assume anything. Otherwise you risk making an ASS out of U and ME. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I only know of him thanks to "Band of Brothers" but if that show is anything close to what "Easy Company" went through (which I believe they did), Dick Winters was an amazing man. Too bad my attempts of bringing the "Far Side" cartoon reference into this thread was lost as humor. We don't agree on all topics, but compared to many people I know you are a moderate Bill. I saw the debate you were having the other day with dreamcatcher concerning some tax/economy issues and I wanted to make some sly remark of "okay who hacked into Bill's account, he is making too much sense here". But I let it go. Here is something that could help the US Congress. Everyone should be forced to view some "Far Side" cartoons before they attempt to do their jobs. If everyone starts their day off with a laugh or two maybe they won't be as angry as they are with each other. Then again I think they would continually need to view "Far Side" cartoons all day long to keep the anger away and well ... there may be a lot of cartoons from the great Gary Larson, but even he had his limits. And exactly how are Ignatieff's Liberals any different? Were you sleeping when Ignatieff whipped the Liberal MPs (threatening to throw them out of caucus) in order to defeat Bill C-391? Were you asleep when CBC paid pollster Frank Graves told the Liberals it was time to wage a culture war in Canada pitting Liberal controlled urban Canada against rural Canada? Rather rich to claim one party is ruled by a dictator when the other party does the exact same thing. The Conservatives are far from perfect, they have made plenty of mistakes. But they are still a better choice than the most arrogant most corrupt political party Canada has ever been ruled by. Empty promises of socialist bliss followed by theft of the tax payer's money is a hallmark of Liberal governance. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I think you need to talk to these people (England's womens national cricket team) because just the other day they said "England has promised to come out guns blazing on Friday for the second Women's One Day International (ODI) cricket match against Australia". Clearly this is not politically correct and we can't have a bunch of female cricket players threatening their Australian counterparts with their blazing guns. http://onehd.com.au/onehd/newsarticles/Cricket-England-promise-to-come-out-guns-blazing-S-727074.htm I think you are going to have a hard time banning every possible gun reference from our popular culture. There are just too many people who will put you in their sights once they see you want to take away their targets. What's next banning the infamous Far Side Bummer of a Birthmark cartoon because the poor deer has a birthmark resembling a bullseye or was it that the birthmark resembles the Target corporate logo? LOL Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Of course I DID NOT THINK Liberals were actually serious in their calls for a Harper assassination. It was merely an example of stupid Liberal humor and an example for Leftists here to ponder that they can not claim the high ground today. Tell me did you think posting a picture of their opponent being assassinated on their official political party website funny? Hopefully the answer was no, hopefully if/when you heard about such nonsense being displayed it made you stop and ask yourself "who exactly are these people who work down at the Liberal Party of Canada" (a political organization that does not even practice democracy inside of it's own organization when it comes to picking their leader and their riding candidates). Sure why not ... Not needed. It is a poor comparison. Unless of course you want insurance companies to start paying out whenever a firearm is used in a crime. But this would only financially punish law abiding firearms owners with no doubt yet another corrupt arm of the insurance industry. Since when has insurance ever stopped automobiles from accidents? No problem with this. I honestly don't understand why law abiding responsible firearms owners feel they should not have to demonstrate that they know how to properly handle their firearms. Thought this was already a requirement? If it is not, well then this is one of those rare times we can actually agree with each other. I support the idea of licensing people who want to own firearms. Big problem with this. License the user not the inanimate object. This is another poor analogy between automobiles and firearms. The government does not come knocking on your door to confiscate your car when you let the registration expire. Governments who do have a registry will confiscate your firearm if you let it expire. Despite the lies Liberals continue to feed people, Canada's Gun Registry is a complete and utter failure. It does nothing to do about stopping firearms from being used in crime and instead is nothing more than a confiscation shopping list for the gun grabbers. IDs can be defaced. What you have never heard of chop shops? You should get out of the classroom more often and come join us in the real world. Please explain the defects on firearms construction that effects safety? I guess they could happen, but you never really hear about firearms recalls because of defective manufacturing. Another poor comparison. Plus any well trained firearms owner know that their firearm needs to be cleaned and maintained for optimal performance. There you go again ... yes governments could bring in new taxes on consumables (ie: ammunition), but besides building an even larger government bureaucracy, what will this really do besides take more money out of people's pockets. Is there anything in this world you don't want to tax? Safety checks on what? On the user or the firearm? I don't have to go back and do a driver's test every year. Come to think of it, I don't have to have my automobile inspected either (though yes I do know some places do require annual or semi-annual emission tests, but not where I live).
