This thread is far too politically correct. Time to spice it up a little. For the record I don't think homosexual people should be physically or verbally discriminated against, homosexual people should be allowed to form partnerships and should have some input to their partners healthcare if/when their partner becomes ill or gets hurt. But the idea of two men venturing down the "Hersey Highway" is gross I say. How can one guy stick his dick up another guy's ass. Gross ... Back to your regular scheduled politically correct discussion. PS: My comment was not directed at Belgian_Draft or any other specific contributor to this PC thread. As long as humans are at the controls, cars will never be mistake proof. Anti-lock brakes are popular because they help the panicky driver who is more likely to slam on the brakes because most drivers do not have experience in a controlled environment discovered the performance limits of their cars and are clueless how to apply their brakes for maximum stopping efficiency. Anti-lock brakes, just as front wheel drive automatic transmissions are popular with car makers because it caters to the lowest common denominator, the low skilled panicky driver. Don't fool yourself into thinking anti-lock brakes are mistake proof. Anti-lock brakes increase stopping distances. Drinking and driving is a serious problem. But breathalyzers attached to car ignitions is just a bad idea and it takes the Big Government Big Brother mantra to the next slippery slope. In 1971 the movie THX1138 was made. Back then it was pure science fiction. But I fear it may become reality in the not too distant future. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I never knew cars had drinking problems. Definitely if the cars are blowing over 0.08 (or whatever the legal limit is in the jurisdiction they are in), then the cars need to have their driving privileges taken away from them. If we are going to punish humans for consuming too much booze while on the public roads, then naturally it is only fair that we start punishing the cars too. Fair is fair. Death threats should NOT be tolerated. The person/persons behind this death threat need to be found ASAP ... and given sugar plumbs, hugs and teddy bears since we all know a little love is all they need to reform the extreme views they have in their heads towards people who oppose their "Big Government" ideology. I love how not only do the Liberal moderators allow their fellow Liberals to personally attack people on this website, but it is even more hilarious when the Liberal moderators themselves send their own personal attacks. I was asking "Do we really know who is behind these Libyan rebels" and I am greeting with "you are a moron and are ignorant" personal attacks from not only yourself but also from a specific moderator who is obviously not very moderate. Back on topic (if you are all finished attacking people who do not share you views on how society must be socially engineered to operate), how much do we know about the people who are behind and supplying these rebels. Okay we get it, you are concerned about the 7 billion people who walk this planet (many of them who are poor). But whoever told you life would be easy was clearly lying to you. I am about to age myself here but in the early 1980s when I was a young, the world's population was estimated to be 4 billion people. Now what is it? 7+ billion? Seems to me it wasn't the evil hated Capitalist world who added those extra 3 billion people since the 1980s. Capitalism is NOT the world's poverty problem. The world's problem with poverty is uncontrolled population growth. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If you are concerned about the El Salvadorian orphan or the Nepalese child labourer, why don't you do a little research before you buy the next product. If there is any evidence that the El Salvadorian orphan or Nepalese child labourer made the product(s) you are about to consume, you have the option NOT to buy this product. Seems to me that is what the OP of this thread was suggesting. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Thank you for addressing the point I was trying to make. Who is behind these armed rebels fighting in Libya? It is possible that they are armed domestic Libyans, though I serious doubt this. The US is know for their armed civil population, but how many of these well armed US citizens have truck mounted rocket launchers in their garages? Exactly who are these people who are behind the rebels in this Libyan civil war? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Capitalism is not perfect. In Capitalism, there are winners and there are losers. Hard work alone does not guarantee success in Capitalism. One does need to be good to be lucky, but one also needs a little luck to be good. But at least in Capitalism you have a chance to succeed. Under socialism, everyone is equal. Equally screwed. If people are concerned about the source of a given product, do a little research about who is behind the product before you buy it. At least under Capitalism you have the choice to walk across the street to the competitor if you do not like what you see. Now for the rest of you comrades who do not believe in Capitalism, this is NOT the line for food. It is the line for shoes. The line for food starts over there. What do we really know about these people fighting the Kadhafi loyalists? There appears to be a lot of people in the West cheerleading for them, but could those cheering for these rebels be mistakenly cheering for a new tyrant to over throw the existing tyrant? The rebels may not have an air force, but they are well armed and they are organized. I am sure Kadhafi loyalist have killed some innocent unarmed civilians, but these people who are waging this civil war against Kadhafi are not unarmed and they are not civilians. I could not help but catch a video clip of them launching some rocket artillery mounted on trucks and while they were firing these rockets at Kadhafi loyalist forces you can hear some of these rebels yelping out "Allah Akbar". Yes Kadhafi is a nutcase tyrant. But are people sure they know exactly who these people are who have decided to all of a sudden wage war on Kadhafi? That is not the way it works. When it becomes too expensive to obtain it legally, the black market will step in to fill the demand. They tried this in Canada (taxing tobacco to death) and you are 100% correct, the black market stepped up to the plate. The Indians (who are tax exempt) are selling tobacco on their reservations. Technically they are only supposed to be selling to fellow Indians who live on the reservations, but when there are profits to be made and people looking for cheap smokes, laws are meant to be broken. Once again proving the inadequacy of the metric system!
CanuckInUSA replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I have pretty much ignored this thread, but I live in a mixture of the metric world and the imperial world. Metric makes a lot of sense when you think of temperatures. Water freezes at 0C and boils at 100C. What's with this nonsense that water freezes at 32F and boils at 212F. Who came up with that utter nonsense? I have no problems with the base 10 metric system when it comes to temperatures, distances, speeds, etc, etc etc ... but one place where I have to admit I do not pay much attention to is weight. I have no idea how many kilograms I weigh. But I do know my semi-fat ass's weight in pounds. Oh and a football field is 100 yards long, unless of course you are talking about a Canadian Football field, which is 110 yards long (WTF who decided we needed the extra 10 yards except I guess a 110 yard field fits better into a 100 meters ... haha). Sure why not, if the price is right. Cars can be rebuilt. Oh and people can change. But the change must come from within. The person must want to change. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Germans illegally own 20 million small arms

David Miller is a fucking idiot. Paul Martin is another gem. The man is an arrogant mega millionaire. Paul Martin thinks so highly of Canada that he cut funding to the provinces (meaning the provinces had no choice they had to cut back on things like healthcare) and he raided the Employment Insurance Fund which is supposed to be held separately from the government's general revenues thus giving the illusion that he was not only balancing the federal budget but now was running massive surpluses. Go figure, the state of Canada's healthcare is suffering due to lack of funding and Paul Martin is arrogantly running around boosting that he was some fiscal genius. Do not for a second believe anything that comes out of Paul Martin's mouth. The man thinks so highly of this country that while still an active politician holding power in government, he moved his Steamship Lines business offshore to avoid paying Canadian wages and avoid paying Canadian taxes. Colonel Kadhafi is one of Paul Martin's friends if that tells you anything about his character. Handguns have been highly regulated in Canada since the 1930s. They are in effect already banned from most people. Yet here we have two idiot politicians making promises to their Urban lemmings on how they plan on banning handguns from Canada. All a gun ban will do is ensure only criminals have the guns. Since when have criminals ever cared about the law. There is a reason why they are called criminals. I believe in capitalism and free markets, but this globalization trend we have seen the last 10-20 years is nothing like we have ever seen before. Professions that were once seen as safe and good here in North America (I assume in Europe as well) are leaving and relocating to places like China and India. Economies are cyclical they go up and down. But the world is changing and if people are not willing to adapt and reinvent themselves, they will be left behind. One thing I noticed this week from the crap going on in Libya is rather interesting. There are thousands of migrant workers from Asia who were in Libya to work. Now that the country is in turmoil, businesses are suspending their operations and they have left these migrant workers to hang out to dry and fend for themselves. Plus the Asia countries these migrant workers come from could careless about their people. These people have no work, no money and no country. They are at the mercy of the Libyans. Presently it looks like the Libyans are feeding them, but what happens when that stops? If people are unwilling to adapt to an ever changing world, they will be left behind. People who expect a job for life complete with full benefits and full pensions are living in the past. People who think what worked for them 10-20 years ago also need to wake up. The globalized economy could careless about what you did in the past and could careless about what country you call home. What happens on Wall Street and what happens on Main Street are completely unrelated. Wall Street walks to a completely different beat. It's hard for a capitalist and free market believe to say this, but Wall Street only cares about one thing and that is Wall Street. Wall Street could careless about Main Street. Why is it so difficult to find love nowadays?
CanuckInUSA replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
Just curious, do you think we put less emphasis on "finding love" as we age? Now that I am older, finding love is less important. It would be nice if it happened, but I am in no rush to make it happen. As Nataly pointed out it is better to be happy within yourself. If you are not happy with yourself you will never make someone else happy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I don't think it is bullying. But there is likely some insecurity in some people's need to bash. History is full of males bashing females. But things are moving (albeit slowly) to where this is becoming a thing of the past. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but there has never been a better time in human history to be female than the present. Opportunities for women to do anything they want have never been better. But anyone who bashes the other gender (be it here or elsewhere) is a small person. We are in this together. Men may be from Mars and women may be from Venus. But we all call the solar system our home. Okay I was far too political correct there. Now show us some boobies.
