  1. Who is the "rest of you"? Now we know Marxism is alive and doing very well at many University campuses, but communism is not exactly something America has ever embraced. If you can muster up 50% + 1 support for allowing the government to take private assets from families when members of their families die, well then I guess your dreams of "Soviet Amerika" can come true. Somehow I don't see it happening. You think Bill Clinton and Al Gore want their respective financial empires being seized by the government when each of them respectively passes away? You may think Marxism is a good thing, but there are still plenty of ubber rich people who call themselves Democrats who will disagree with you. ROFLMAO. 2. You should move to North Korea. I am sure you would be very happy there living knowing that there is no personal wealth and that you are equal to everyone else. Equally screwed that is. Whoever told you that life would be easy, was clearly lying to you. Inheritance taxes are the worst type of taxes as they are taxing assets that have already been taxed. If your beloved big government bureaucracy needs more money because it can't control it's spending, then consumption taxes are a better way to go. This way people can decide for themselves, is paying extra for this product/service worth the extra costs. I choose choice over a government bureaucracy who will be there to raid the assets of a family all because someone dies. But I guess this is something a communist would never understand. 3. Awesome, now get out there and go do some more. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I'm not. I am agnostic. Big difference. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Not sure where you got this from. Throw the GST out the window for a second. Most (not all) products which are identical and can be found in Canada as well as the USA, are more expensive in Canada. Then you add the GST to it (plus add more provincial sales taxes in every province except Alberta which presently does not have a provincial sales tax). But it could be worse. We could be talking about Europe's "Value Added Taxes". I think the European average is about 18% and as high as 25% in Sweden. But I do have to plead ignorance on income taxes Swedish people may need to pay. I would not be against a 15-25% sales tax if there was no income tax. 6. I don't do Autocross, but I do track my car during "DE open lapping track day" sessions and it is a total blast. In 2010 the good news was that I made it to the race track 17 times, I did over 1000 laps, I learned tons about car control driving at the limits and I had tons of fun. But the bad news is, not only did I spend money on track access fees, money on oil and gas. I also went through two sets of high performance tires, had to replace my front brake pads/rotors, had to replace my rear brake pads and also had to replace a broken drive belt. And I got off lucky compared to some others who crashed their cars. Nope you can't win with a car when it comes to money. They are money pits. But you sure can have a lot of fun with them. However if you can't afford to do the maintenance on them, then you should reconsider. My daily driver is a beater and I plan on keeping it for many more moons to come. 7. The problem with consumption taxes is what to do about the people who flock to the underground economy. Of course the underground economy will always be there, but higher consumption taxes would likely drive the ranks of the underground economy even higher than what they are now. 8. The rich only need to worry about guillotines when their own private armies and private security forces turn on them. As long as the rich keep some well supplied well armed loyalists happy, they need not worry about losing anything ... but a little sleep after their orgies living the life of luxury. It's the way it's always been and it is the way it always will be. If you want to start a revolution against the rich, you are going to have to find some other real world venue other than the internet. All the internet has done is create a place for people to gather and whine about the rich (or LOL whine about big government bureaucracy) as well as created a breeding ground for spam and computer viruses. 9. You don't actually think we live in democratic countries do you? The rich have always ruled the common folk from the beginning of civilization and they are NOT about to let anyone (not even their own Hollywood created messiah savior of the world President) take their wealth away from them. 10. That's right, I am in the right line. You see I am hoping to get one of these ... Besides I am not the one who comes here desperate to implement a wealth redistribution system. I am not even remotely close to being as successful as someone who owns an airplane. But the funny thing is I don't want to take this airplane away from that person. You see, that airplane is not mine. I did nothing to earn that airplane. I have no right to demand that a portion of that airplane be given to me. If I want my own airplane, I better be prepared to change my life in order to earn it. To get back on topic, I would be in favor of increasing consumption taxes if income taxes were reduced (or eliminated) and I think taxing net worth as well as taxing death is the worst form of taxation. People who are in favor of inheritance and net worth taxes only want it because they rely on the "big government with it's massive bureaucracy" because they feel it is the government's job to spend spend spend and spend even more money without ever thinking government has gotten too big and too bloated with no shortage of self entitled lemmings lining up to feed off of the tax payers tit. The only problem with taxing consumption is that it does not address the underground economy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Whatever you say comrade. But this isn't the line for food. It's the line for shoes. The line for food starts over there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Good post timmyfitz Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Compared to this guy? Absolutely not. I am a talentless nobody. Maybe I should change my name to "Mr Nobody". LOL ... too late someone already did. Anyway this guy has some Mad Skillz. It is hard to wrap your brain around how much of this is just pure natural talent and how much of this is countless hours of mindless practice. In the good'ole days before our "Look at Me" YouTube culture took off, you needed to go to the circus or the carnival to see such Mad Skillz. But now these Madly Skilled individuals are everywhere on the net. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I believe a "Candy Cane Registry" will solve the problem. Once everyone registers their candy canes, the authorities will know who wants to use their candy canes as tasty treats and who plans on using them as the malicious weapons that we all know that they are. Besides, think of all the tax payer funded unionized civil servant jobs we can create for the massive "Candy Cane Registry" bureaucracy. It is a win-win for the socially engineered, straight jacket, 100% government controlled, nanny state society we all dream about. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. That is a good video. I liked the guy who biffs his landing all because he wanted to touch down on the trampoline. But he did it. Good accuracy. However I am speechless regarding that low opening. Big balls? Crazy? Reckless? At least he didn't bounce ... this time. Hardcore. Intense. Did I mention intense? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I would like to see how the rope was tied off in the building jump. But it's a pretty good stunt since the girl didn't bounce. Of course the other people on the snowy roof were not tied in. But what ever possessed you to post that dancing video. That is one of the most disturbing and extreme things I have ever seen. I am permanently scared now. I have never seen a therapist before, but after watching 10 seconds of that dancing video, it is time to go see one. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Very sad news. My heart goes out to Kiwi and everyone else at Mile Hi. Fly free Emily. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Looks like a very well run business. Funny how such an efficient operation was never allowed to function in North America. Definitely good news for the small yet very well motivated Brazilian workforce. Now where is my welfare check? The government has been promising me that they would care for my every need from the cradle to the grave. Got to love the socialism North America is adopting. Everyone will finally be equal. Equally screwed. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. ROFLMAO ... I want one. If I got myself a Golen Stoker ($3600 for a 4.6L, $5000 for the 4.6L turbo or super charged version) I could track my Wrangler. Of course I would likely need to look into different brake and suspension systems. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Snow and ice magnifies the challenges, but learning to drive a RWD vehicle takes practice in knowing how to balance the vehicle in a turn. By temporarily shifting weight towards the front of the car following by a smooth application of power through the turn, one can ensure that enough weight is shifted back on the rears. This allows the fronts to do their thing, directionally controlling the vehicle while the rears do their thing, applying power to the road. It is a balancing act and extremely important not to panic if/when grip is lost. I absolutely love driving on the track in wet conditions. You can actually feel what your tires are doing (something that is usually lost on a dry track). All race tracks should have sprinkler systems installed on them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. That's correct, when you lose grip, you lose grip and it is extremely hard to find grip once it is lost on ice. I seem to recall saying something in my first post of this thread that someone should have ran up to the top of the hill to warn other drivers once it was apparent that people were having problems here. But instead I have been attacked by understeering FWD automatic car lovers. Not a problem, you peeps are the majority. Understeering FWD automatics are definitely better for the general population. Oversteering RWDs are the last thing panicky drivers should be using. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I didn't realize this thread has turned into a "my car is better than your car" thread. I am happy you like the Subaru. I got to drive one once coming back from skiing in Colorado, and it seemed like a decent vehicle. But it was only once and not enough seat time time to properly assess it. But unlike you I am not trying to focus on one specific make and model. Haha ... it is no secret I avoid understeering FWD automatics like the plague. It is my biased preference to prefer oversteering RWD manual transmissions. But my preference for the oversteering RWD manual transmission vehicles extends well beyond just winter driving. I have already stated why I prefer manual transmissions on icy hills. Plus what difference is 1" of ice, 2" of ice or a thin layer of ice? If the tires lose grip, they lose grip. Can we leave it at that? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. ROFLMAO ... how ironic you say "once they started braking they lost control", yet you want to slam me because I say with a manual transmission they would not need to brake as much (maybe not even need to brake at all) if they let the engine help control their speed on the descent. Dude I live on hill just as steep as the hill in this video. I also live in a city that does not clear the snow from it's residential streets. Once winter sets in (usually around October) it stays slick on the hill I navigate every day until April or May (sometimes even June). You can choose to say anything you want on this matter. All I am saying is there are ways to handle these icy hills. You do not have to ride your brakes which causes you to slip and slide totally out of control. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Absolutely. Years ago the very first night I took delivery of a RWD manual transmission Toyota Supra I drove it home and there happened to be light snow on the road that night. Fortunately what happened next didn't happen around other cars, but I foolishly downshifted (thinking I knew what I was doing at the time ... oh to be young and naive) and with little warning swapped ends. The snow on the road didn't help, but the snow was NOT the reason why I swapped ends. I swapped ends because I did not match RPMs, I lost grip and the car spun. It wasn't until years later when I had some advanced driving instruction on a race track that I was able to put two and two together and understand why I lost grip that night thanks to a poorly performed downshift. I was just lucky that it only happened once. Yes modern transmissions have some rev matching built into them making things easier on us and our cars. But I don't drive a modern car. My Jeep is 12 years old and my Porsche is a little older at 14 years old. So I have to do it the old fashion way for both. I heal/toe in the Porsche and blip the throttle with the Jeep. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I can't heal/toe in my Jeep Wrangler if my life depended on it. Trust me I have tried. The pedals are not situated right as there is too much vertical distance between the brake pedal and accelerator pedal, and in order to do it I must rotate my foot. But then I can't rotate my foot because the center console gets in the way. But heal/toe'ing in my 911 is easy. Even though it is over kill on the public roads, I still do it all the time since it is now second nature. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
