SCR? Am I missing something here? Actually a cool thing which happened today was that I got to do a two-way (or at least we tried) with a really cute girl who was visiting the DZ from Tucson AZ. I doubt she'll see this, but if she does. Thanks for the jump Monica. Ok now I know many of you have your heads in the gutters right about now. But it wasn't like that (even though she was definitely cute and nice enough for a guy like me to want to do something fun with her). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I guess I won't really believe it until the USPA issues me a number, but I became a licensed skydiver today after completing my "A" License checkdive.

Kelli Was that his last jump of the day or the 2nd to last? If it was his last jump, I witnessed it. But didn't know it was his 3000th. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I haven't told my family yet that I'm a skydiver (my first jump was six weeks ago and I've done 24 of them to date). But I think I'm going to do a video skydive sometime in the not too distant future just before I go up and visit them in October. It should be interesting to see their reactions as I tumble to earth. By the way, welcome to the club. It's an addictive, but joyous hobby. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Oh man, you're not supposed to tell them. Now my cover is blown. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hmm ... there's light at the end of your tunnel. I hope it's not a train. I'm hoping to hear similar news on my rig before the end of September. But if not? Have fun with your rig. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well it sounds like the head honcho instructor is an a$$ and yes I do appreciate that you've worked your butt off. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

By the way, when it comes time to do the actual checkride, the examiner will be impressed to see that you scored 93% on your written. But that still doesn't mean that they won't drill you with questions. So you must be prepared. Oh also, if you don't know the answer to a specific question, don't bull$hit. Just tell them you don't know and if you've done well on the other questions they'll be happy to give your the info then and there. Your checkride is all part of the learning process. I was Part 91, so my assumption about the instructor saying I was ready for my checkride was based upon that experience. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

As a pilot, it is extremely important to know how to interpret the weather (ie: a passing cold or warm front always mean increased winds). So I do think his question about the weather during a checkride is valid. But should your entire oral portion of the checkride be based on obsure questions? We all know the anwer is no. When I did my checkride, the examiner setup a hypothetical trip that he and I were to go on (him being a non-pilot not know any of the regulations) and before I even began to plan for the trip (you know all that stuff about flight plan, time, fuel, weight, etc, etc, etc) he wanted to make sure I knew the regulations which would determine whether or not it would be a legal flight (ie: was I current, could I fly with passengers, when was my medical going to expire, could I charge my passenger for the flight, etc, etc, etc.). So what I'm trying to get at here is that there is a lot to know. By scoring 93% on your written, this tells us that you are no dummy and you do have a decent knowledge of the material. But maybe this Chief Instructor is trying to determine how much you really do know. Then again, maybe he's just a dick. Believe it not, I know where your frustrations are coming from. Have you talked to your instructor about this? If this Head Flight Instructor is a male chauvinist, then maybe you need to take some time and talk with a 3rd party instructor away from Sportys. But ultimately it should be your primary flight instructor who will say whether or not you are ready for the checkride. There is a lot of material to know and obtaining your private pilot's certificate is not something to take lightly. Believe it or not, if you can ace your oral, then the examiner is more likely to cut you some slack during the flight portion. So knowing the material is vital. And a lot of what Quade just said is true. My checkride went extremely well, but you can't even begin to image how many hours of home study I put into it before I got to that day. Good luck and keep us posted. Steve (a licensed ASEL private pilot) Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm not sure I want my package flapping around like some mad man during a naked skydive as it looks like it might hurt . But if I was a female and there were other naked skydivers going up with me, I'd do it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The interesting thing is that you came back to the sport. I wonder how many low-timers who get hurt hang'em up for good? There was a fellow at my DZ this last weekend working on one of his AFF levels and he had a mishap which was rumoured to have broken his ankle as well. But after talking to his AFF instructor, it seems that he had broken the same ankle in the past as the instructor said it wasn't that bad of a landing. Well I don't feel so bad now for some of my early landing escapades (of course I can't use poor eye sight as an excuse which is valid in your case). But lately my landings have gotten better (I'm standing up about 60-70% of the time now) thanks to myself using a canopy that actually flares and I'm also hoping that I've licked my flaring too high trends. But I still have plenty of work to do in this area. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I honestly don't know where this sport will take me (what with myself being a novice skydiver). I do want to learn some RW, but I can't wait for the day when I can do some head down freeflying with someone else tossing a ball back and forth. That just looks way too cool. I'm going to have to defer as to what makes me uniques as that requires some thinking (not such an easy task for me in the morning). But I was in a similar situation to your point #1. You see I was an accident, or should I say a birthday present from my father to my mother (if you look at my mother's and my birthday, it's almost exactly 23 years and nine months apart) and my father left my mother soon after I arrived on the scene. And to top it off, the doctors told my mother before I came out that I was likely a girl. Of course the technology back in the dark ages (that would be the 60s) isn't what it is today. You've got some good ones there sunshine. 1. My mom was advised to have an abortion when she was pregnant with me. Owchee-ca-wow-wa ... where would we be without you on these boards (now how's that for sucking up). 2. I collect rubber balls. Huh? 3. I actually love my job. Good for you. I wish I could say the same. My job just allows me to pay for all of my expensive hobbies, so it's hard to quit. 4. I've never landed in an airplane. I take it then that you drive everywhere. 6. I was electrocuted when i was 19. As previously stated, you're doing pretty good for a dead girl. 8. I only see with one eye. Is this true? If so, bummer ... but it's good to see that it doesn't stop you from skydiving. 9. My kitty is the most important thing in the world to me. It's important to have someone (even if they are just a pet) in our lives. I too have a critter which is important to me. I'd love to have a dog, but I'm never home and that wouldn't be fair to the dog.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

In many respects we AFFers have been pushed out of the nest at a young age and are on our own. But there are plenty of people who are willing to answer your questions and there are coaches available to help you with your RW skills. As far as what I've worked on during my solo dives, it's been a combination of working on my stability and up and coming RW skills as well as just having a whole lot of fun (you know, flips, turns, barrell rolls and maybe a small amount of sight seeing). Once again, AFF isn't for everybody. But I think it was good for me. Of course I've done 24 dives in a five week period. There are AFFers who have only done a few dives (thanks to monetary constraints) in that time and maybe their AFF progression hasn't been as good. Time will tell for those people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We're all different, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my solo dives and believed that once I had graduated from my AFF program, I was ready for them. To date I have made: 1 Tandem jump 8 Supervised AFF jumps 13 Unsupervised solo jumps 2 Coached jumps I have done everything I need on my proficiency card to obtain my "A" License except for the pack job dive, oral quiz and check dive which I hope I can get all done Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of this week (assuming the whuffo boss lets me have a little time off from work). Also, I have mixed feelings about coached jumps. I know I need them and I'll get into RW faster if a coach tell others to jump with me once I have the appropriate skills. But I'm not all that kean on spending extra money on coached jumps. I guess I'll have to find a happy medium here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
