  1. For my first dozen or so jumps, I had trouble sticking my landings as well. And some of this had to do with myself flaring too high and some of it had to do with the lousy student canopy I was using which has such a poor flare. In that time, I have downsized from the student 290, to a slightly smaller Manta 260 (which actually flares) and now a PD 230 which I've stood up on 75% of my jumps to date. So you have to ask yourself, how much of your landing issues are because of your technique and how much is because of the equipment you use which may have too many jumps on it? 2. So what's the difference between AFF and AFP? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Welcome to the addicition. On Saturday morning I paid for five jumps thinking that that would be all I could do in two weekend days (hey my DZ is a Tandem Factory), but I ended up doing nine jumps in total thanks to the addiction and I can't wait to jump next weekend as well. 4. Sweat pictures dude ... that head down free falling looks gnarly. I too did a sunset dive on Saturday, but due to my experience level I was concentrating more on the dive and not very much on the sun setting over the mountains. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Come on up to beautiful Colorado and we'll make you feel at home and thus less lonely. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Hmmm ... bummer dude ... sorry to hear the bad news. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. If the work is jumping he might be right No not in this case. The Whuffo boss is a computer geek who's only interest in this world seems to be computers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. 6:3:5:1,000,000 - Six jumps on Saturday. - Three jumps on Sunday (Tandem Factory @ Mile-Hi was in full production this day). - Five of my jumps this weekend were standup landings (four of which were on a smaller canopy I just started to use). - 1,000,000 times I dreamed that Square One (hint hint SB) could influence the people at Sunrise Rigging to get my new container made ahead of schedule so that I could get off of my student/rental gear and start jumping my own gear. All in all though it was a great weekend (I almost doubled the number of jumps I originally planned on doing). The only bummer was that I could get my pack job done and my "A" License will just have to wait. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. First I should say that for years I've wanted to try skydiving, but I guess I subscribed to the Whuffo theorum of "why" (well you know the rest of the saying). But then six weeks ago today I did my first tandem jump with a group of single people I know (some of who I play volleyball with) and I said to myself "wow, jumping out of airplanes is just way to cool not to do again". So I immediately signed up for the AFF ground school (I was the only one in my group that day that signed up) and the following weekend I did my first two AFF levels. Since then I have graduated my AFF, done virtually everything I needed to do to get my "A" License except for my pack job jump (I wanted to do it this weekend but the DZ was too busy) and I have 24 jumps under my belt. PS: I'm hoping to convince the Whuffo boss at wotk that I need to take some time off later this week so that I can get my pack job done and do my "A" License check dive and oral quiz. Wish me luck (for the Whuffo boss not the pack job and jump as the boss tends to think that work is the only thing that matters in life). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Sounds like a great way to celebrate your b-day.
  11. New things for me today (or was that yesterday?) 1) I jumped six times doubling my previous highs of three jumps in one day. 2) I downsized from the student Manta 260 to a rental PD 230 (and stood up two of my three landings on the 230). By the way my wing loading on the PD 230 is about 1:1. 3) I did a head first forward tumbling exit from the aircraft (man that was fun purposly flipping about four times before recovering). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Yah but Hawk you did get three (hopefully) fun jumps in yourself and that was pretty good in itself. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. I think I'm officially addicted to skydiving. I just did six jumps today. Now I know for the hard core jumpers or for ones working in the business, this isn't such a big deal. But for me it's the first sign of an addiction (especially since I decided I was going back to my DZ tomorrow for more). PS: You've just got to love those tumbling head first exits. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Well if you did indeed trade canopies, then I think he owes you an atlas. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. LOL ... you still going on about that road atlas? Exactly what did he do to owe you this atlas (enquiring minds need to know). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. When I was a primary flight student learning to become a licensed private pilot, I had a flight instructor on board to give me guidance with my landings. But essentially they were there to save my bacon if I was to do something radically wrong. I learned how to land an airplane by myself and anyone who's been through flight training will say the same thing. So learning to land a canopy should be no different. Have I learned everything there is to know about how to land a canopy? Hell no ... Are all of my canopy landings picture perfect standups? I wish ... Do I fly a safe pattern landing into the wind? My avaition training helped me here, but many of my AFF pears didn't seem to have a problem with this, so I still find it hard to believe that S/L students are deamed far surperior to AFF. So what I am trying to say here is that as long as we low-timer skydivers (doesn't matter if you're AFF or S/L trained) don't get aggresive with our wing loading before we're ready for it, we will teach ourselves how to land. Having someone along to critic you is fine, but ultimately it's the person landing the canopy who builds the experience of knowing when and how much to flare for the given conditions. It's all about experience and repetition. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  18. Two thumbs up for the performance of the DZ servers today. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Well it sure seems apparent that those who trained via S/L prefer S/L and those who trained via AFF prefer AFF. I for one trained AFF and that is all I know so it's really hard to say that S/L is better or worse. I do know that S/L is not available at my DZ and I was lucky enough to be of the right character to be able to handle FF right off of the bat. Of course there are those out there who need to be introduce to FF slowly (as opposed to what happens in AFF). Now just because I've trained via AFF, many of the S/L advocates seem to insist that I am an inferior canopy pilot and for that I have to ask what makes me who has 15 jumps to my credit a worse canopy pilot that a S/L jumper who also has 15 jumps? We've both had to land the same number of times. As long as I don't rush my wing loading progression, I should be just as good as a S/L jumper shouldn't I? Clearly S/L works better for some while AFF works for others. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Sort of like the "ball and chain" only lighter in weight right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Good luck and stay loose on your Level VII jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I would say that most of them are too small for me (I weigh 205 lbs) and am a novice skydiver. But I would be interested in trying out the Triathlon 220 as ironically that is exactly what I'm going to be jumping on once my new rig is delivered. So maybe some time in September I should come out for a weekend (keeping in mind that my jumping time may be limited due to the availability of the rig) to have some fun.
  23. What's the rig rental situation up at Brush? I have ordered a new Wings container from Square One, but it's going to take 6-8 weeks (probably even more) before I can jump my own rig and in that time I have to rent. At Mile-Hi it's not uncommon for me to be manifested on a load only to be bumped because my rental rig has been confiscated for a student. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. I am a new Mile-Hi(gher) but once I get my "A" license (should be anytime within the next 1-3 weeks) I will have to make the occasional road trip to Brush. Of course Mile-Hi is pretty close to me here in Boulder whereas Brush is far away. Hmmm ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. If you can say for sure that you haven't missed a transaction, then it sounds like your bank has messed up. Stay calm, don't mess with anything. But monitor your account so that you know when or if the bank takes back that $59. And if they don't, woo-hoo you're buying the next round right?
