Well this weekend I managed to start doing 270 front riser carving approaches and I must say that I was totally impressed on how they much better and easier they worked than the 180s I was doing before this. My accuracey was good, I tended to not come out too high yet there was plenty of room to play with tighening up or lengthening the carve based on conditions and the speed and distance I achieved in my swoops were my best ever to date. I still have plenty to learn and am no where near maxing out my new xFire2 canopy (I have made only 49 jumps on this canopy), but with my 270s, I am starting to realize the potential for my canopy and my swoops. Just don't %@#& up right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Sounds like you salvaged a bad weekend into a good one. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey Mary ... I'm sure his handcuffs are child's play compared to your electric fly swatter. By the way, are you done with jumping this season or will you be out at Brush or Mile-Hi anytime soon (I still want to give you a copy of my flic). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It all makes sense now. Chretien's been a pot-head (not that there's anything wrong with that) for years now and his demeanor just proves this theory. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Icarus Customer (no)Service?
CanuckInUSA replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a heck of a time trying to get Icarus to send me out a xFire2 to demo. In fact they never did send one to me (more on that later). But I did get to demo one at Rantoul (ironically after I had already ordered one) and now I'm flying my own xFire2 canopy and love it. Now I did commit the cardinal sin (buy before you try) and I don't expect people to do what I did. But based on everything that I was hearing about the xFire2 canopy, I knew I wanted one and now that I have one, I am very pleased with it (of course I've only made 40 some odd jumps on the new canopy). And one has to wonder if Icarus saw that I already had ordered a canopy and decided not to send me out a demo, or if they just forgot about me with the demo I had requested. I don't know ... but I'm not losing any sleep about the issue. So is Icarus's customer service top notch? Likely not. But is the xFire2 a top notch canopy? If it's not the best non-crossed braced canopy out there, it's one of the best. And as long as Icarus is around for a re-line in a few hundred jumps, I'm happy. which boogie has the best parties?

What? How soon do we forget? The Eloy Holiday Boogie is one long party. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Please don't take this the wrong way, but why is there virtually no information on your website for experienced jumpers (you know stuff like lift prices, airplanes, organizing, special events and any other sort of requirements). There is a whole lot of info on tandems and students, but nothing for the experienced. Or is this the sort of DZ that only caters to new jumpers and does not welcome jumpers from other DZs? From a resale point of view, make sure you pay attention to what some of the other skydivers are using at the DZs you may frequent. It'll be much easier to sell a canopy that people are familiar with and want. As far as what canopy is good for packing, opening, landings and performance, there are plenty of people who know a whole lot more than I do, so I'm not going to say much about one canopy or the other. But I'd suggest you explore the URL Ron posted. From there you can read the reviews different people wrote. But don't forget to trust the people you know at your DZs more than any of us here on DZ.COM ... I've flown student/rental gear (hated most of that stuff), a few rental Spectres (which I liked), a Triathlon (not a bad canopy), two Sabre2s (a very good canopy to learn on) and now I'm on a Crossfire2 which is still new to me (a high performance canopy only recommended for qualified pilots). The Spectres, Sabres and Saffires are all great canopies to learn on and they all have good resale potential. But I just noticed you're from Russia and I don't known how easily you can get your hands on a PD or an Icarus canopy. So look at what the people at your DZ use and then try and find some reviews for those canopies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So what's the current asking price for your daughter? LOL ... I can't help but think of John Belushi right now from the Blues Brothers movie : "How much for the little girl, how much for your women"? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well at least with some religions, they let your drink wine with your crackers. The Catholic church only lets the priest drink. Is there any wonder why so many priests are messed up. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Formal training is good when it's available. But this is not always the case. I know what I'm about to say definitely applies to myself as well as every one else learning new canopy skills. I think what would help is if we encouraged people to spend more time playing up high with their canopies. There's a huge movement to become good with our freefall skills, and less emphasis on enhancing our canopy control skills. Instead of pulling a 3k (or whatever it is people normally pull at). Why not try and get people to pull a little higher and work on some canopy skills (flat turns, flared turns, front and rear risers, etc, etc, etc). Recently I've been working a lot on my flared turns up high and then a couple of weeks ago I was presented the option of doing a flared turn to avoid a crater while half way through my swoop or risk landing in the crater. Well my immediate thought process while in the middle of my swoop was "I don't want to go there" (where the crater was) and I instinctively executed a flared turn to avoid the obstacle. I may have been able to do this without the practice up high, but because of the practice, I didn't even have to think about how to avoid the crater, I just did it. So now I find myself wanting to become a better swooper and that means dialing in my 90s, 180s and 270s as well as sometime down the road I want to use my rear risers to help increase my swoop distance. How am I going to go about doing this? Easy ... I'm going to play up high with my 270s and at some point start adding in my front to rear riser transitions. And I won't try these down low until I know I'm performing the appropriate actions instinctively without thinking about what I need to do when I really need to be paying attention to Mother Earth and any additional air traffic. Of course actions speak louder than words and if I mess up this weekend (or any other weekend). I only have myself to blame. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I was always under the assumption that you were either designated as a Monkey or you weren't. So currently, I am NOT a monkey and thus should not be wearing monkey clothing pretending that I am. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I wish there were more people like you. I won't question someone's personal spirituality, but I do question religions. Each religion says they are right and all the others are wrong. If you ask me, they're all pretty mixed up. But once again, I won't questions someone's individual relationship with their God(s). Me, I'm Agnostic. The whole question of the universe and a possible creator is too complex for my little brain. But you'll never catch me just believing in words written by humans, translated and changed over time as "the truth". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

He's probably not the original post whore, but AggieDave could get a few votes. He has been around DZ.COM for several years now and well ... he is kind of a whore now isn't he? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey Kris It looks like this thread has some life in it and I was just a little curious to see how your jumps are coming. Your current profile reads 1 tandem and 1 AFF. So we've got to assume that you did your level 1 and maybe more? How'd it go? Any plans for future jumps? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Well it sounds like Mile-Hi and Brush both have the C90. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Some of your no-wind landing issues may also be related to your canopy choice. A 7-cell such as yours comes in steeper than a 9-cell and your may just not feel as comfortable coming in faster (ground speedwise) at the steeper angle. My first canopy was a Triathlon and it did it's job well for what I asked out of it. But I like the 9-cell canopy more than the 7-cell because of the flatter glide angles. Just my 2 cents ... I'm not sure which King Airs Mile-Hi or Brush have, so I voted for both King Air categories. I also voted 'Other' because Mile-Hi has a Cessna 206 as well. Oh did I mention our Otter? Nah, let's not go there ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
