  1. Some of us are pilots as well as skydivers. So I don't buy into this "all airplanes are dangerous" crap. If the airplane was so dangerous, why is it, that the pilot is able to get that puppy onto the ground in order to make the next load. Sure certain aspects of flight are dangerous, but you won't convince me (or likely any other pilot) that skydiving is safer than flying an airplane. 2. Extra vibes being sent. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. No ... but some (not all) of your movies are a little out of date. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. One thing to remember about the Eloy boogie. You're likely to get pie'd on any '00th jump. I was lucky last year when I hit my 100th in that all that happened to me was that I was thrown in the pool. But I did my 100th on x-mas day when not as many people were there. Had I done it anytime afterwards, I would likely have gotten it good with some pie. And if I do do my 500th in Eloy this year, I suspect that it will happen in the first few days of the boogie. But who knows, I may do it before Eloy? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. It remains to be seen when I hit it, but if you're in Eloy and I'm poised to do my 500th, I'll let you pie me. But only if you're on my 500th. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Freefliers (at least those not sliding horizontally across the sky) really do need to follow belly fliers even if the belly flier is pulling at 4000 feet. Belly fliers will drift more horizontally (because they are presenting their bodies to the uppers for a longer period of time) and if a freeflier was to exit before a belly flier, the belly flier could end up on top of a freeflier. Vertically this wouldn't be such a big deal as the freeflier will be way below the belly flier, but if the belly flier has a malfunction and has to cut away, guess who's falling in on who while under canopy. 7. I got some decent video of you on one of our jumps. So I could probably package it up in an MPEG or WMV file and email it to you if you'd like? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Sending get well vibes to Andi (BikerBabe) and her hubby BikerDude. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. 0:17:2 No humps ... what can I say? Seventeen jumps (I played hookie from work Friday afternoon ). Two first jumps with two DZ.COMers. I made two fun jumps with FreakyDiver on Sunday and BlueEyedMonster was in town Saturday visiting and I made a couple of jumps with him. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Mile-Hi does look a little different, but not too much. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. A work colleague noticed this very same comic you posted in the papers the other day, cut it out and gave it to me. So I then put it up in my cube above a picture of myself landing my canopy. But at the same time, it's also next to Holly's memorial leaflet that I got LouDiamond to send to me when he attended Holly's funeral. So I have some skydiving humor and seriousness visibly up for myself and others to view. Don't take life too seriously, but don't take life for granted either. 12. You lucky bastard ... that's a $2000 savings (give or take a few $$$). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Is 205 lbs your exit weight or your naked weight? I know some canopy nazis will claim that a 170 is too aggresive as a first canopy even if your exit weight is 205 (and I might agree with them without ever seeing your landings). But for sure, a 170 is way too aggresive if 205 is your naked weight. I'm no canopy nazi, but we need to build canopy skills before we start flying fairly highly loaded canopies. My naked weight is about 200 lbs and my first canopy was a Triathlon 220 (though I did successfully fly a rental Spectre 210 before that). A more experienced skydiver noticed me during my recent downsizing last weekend (I just started flying my Crossfire2 139) and here's what he said to me "You look good out there, just don't fuck up". And the same thing can be said for anyone of us. "Don't fuck under any canopy, regardless if we think we are ready for it". I hope this makes sense ... 14. Saturday should be good enough (but how many fun jumpers will be there?). However, Sunday's WX is questionable. I'm thinking of cutting out of work early today to hopefully get one or two jumps in as today looks like the best WX day of the three days. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Hey I'm looking at 40 straight in the eye (only 2 1/2 weeks away) and I'm not scared. Of course it'll be harder to tell that cute little hottie (assuming I ever meet a cute little hottie again) my age. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I'm sure the PD people would deny this, but the Katana does appear to be a canopy built to compete with the Crossfire2. The Katana is likely a good canopy, but I love my Crossfire2. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I'd love to take a 6-12 month break from work and just jump my ass off at a DZ. But then I remind myself that taking time off of work would mean quiting my job which would mean no health insurance. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. For the time being, I am heeding (spelling?) your advice about NOT working for a DZ and instead just fun jumping. When you think about it, very few people who work at the DZ actually do fun jumps. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Cool ... there's your 15 minutes of fame. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I'm super tired of the Cypres debate, so there was only one logical choice in this poll: Naked!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I was thinking the same thing. I'm no swoop-god (heck I'm just learning this ever so fun yet dangerous discipline), but video has a way of not lying while still photos are easy to misinterpret. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Oh Lizzie is a Hottie alright. But once again, likely a little too young for me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. But you don't understand. The jump prices increased $1 to pay for an Otter. But we have no Otter yet we're now stuck with higher jump tickets and this DZ makes tons on $$$ on tandems and AFF students. Is there any wonder why there was only four fun jumpers at the DZ the entire day on Saturday to go along with the 60+ tandems and close to 20 AFF students. If this trend continues, who's going to be around to mentor the new jumpers just off of AFF? It could turn out to be a very dangerous DZ. Why? I don't know, maybe because of that extra $1? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. First off, congrats to the skydivers of San Marcos for getting an Otter back. I find it ironic that my home DZ originally took yours away and while I understand why we haven't jumped it (what with the death of our DZO and all), it's kind of frustrating that the DZ upped the lift tickets from $20 to $21 to pay for this new Otter. But here we are, no Otter and yet we're still paying an extra $1 for something that looks like it won't ever happen. I just love the way the DZ can gouge their fun jumpers. Of course if you were at the DZ last Saturday, you would have seen how much the DZ cares about fun jumpers (NOT). But I'm off topic here. Once again, congrats to the jumpers of San Marcos. At least some people have an Otter to jump every weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I don't know where you are trying to go with this. The example you sight sounds like an extreme case and this person is obviously not one of the safer skydivers around and likely has too much reliance on their AAD. I agree that people need to jump with their AADs as if they weren't there. But there is a reason why these devices were created in the first place and that is to save lives. If one person starts having multiple AAD firings, then maybe there is a serious problem which needs to be addressed. It seems as if people sight extreme examples just to make their point. But for the vast majority of the AAD users, I doubt these extreme arguments have any merit. Where is this debate going? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
