  1. Try not to beat yourself up too much about not being able to stand up your landings. You've likely only got a handful of jumps under your belt and learning to land takes repetition (I hardly stood up any of my early landings on student canopies). Now if you're on the edge of hurting yourself with your landings, then please seek immediate help. Otherwise just remember that the canopies students often use are old F-111 canopies with little to no flare left in them and perform quite differently than the canopies most fun jumpers use. Finally, I think if you want to learn more than just the bare minimum that the instructors will teach you about canopy flight. Then by all means talk to the instructors about your concerns. Once off of AFF talk to coaches and experienced canopy pilots and seek formal canopy control instruction. It's amazing how many skydivers out there will spend $$$ on freefall coaching and tunnel time and little on formal canopy training, yet it is the canopy control aspects of the sport which allow us to jump time and time again. Good luck and keep us posted ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Sorry folks, but the pictures are being delayed. The dude which took and promised to send them to me is in a meeting right now. So I don't know when he'll send them to me? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. A pretty huge wild fire is developing as we speak (actually it's been on fire since morning) just outside of Jamestown Colorado (northwest of Boulder and Denver). Pictures to come soon from my office here in Superior CO. http://www.insidedenver.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_2385586,00.html Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Two more sleeps until I arrive in FL for "The Bytch Boogie". But I still haven't figured out if I am going to try and carry on my rig or just check it at the airport. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Happy birthday dude ... I managed to hit 40 myself just a few short weeks ago. I guess you and I can agree that October of 1963 was a good month. High: Knowing that in a few short days I will be jumping at Sebastian. Low: Knowing that my trip to Sebastian will have to end at some point. 7. Sending best of "surgery" luck to Michele right now and then later I'll send get well vibes to her. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Yikes ... that's kind of scary. I'll often ask someone to check if my container is still closed and the tabs are all tucked in, meaning that everything is fine since I already checked the gear before I put it on (ie: the pilot chute is cocked etc, etc, etc). But definitely would be turned off if someone was to just start fondling my gear without my permisssion. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Isn't it windy enough in northern CA? Or do you just want the beer light to be on sooner. I hope to make it out to Lodi one day in the not too distant future and meet some of the yahoos there (such as Jimmy Halliday, Mike Knight, Aussie Pete, etc, etc, etc.). 10. My natural father is a retired air force jet fighter pilot as well as a retired airline pilot. A few years ago, he was happy to learn when I got my private pilot's certificate. But his eyes rolled last year when I told him I was pursuing skydiving. Also, for years I let my slightly older brother influence me with the "why jump out of a perfectly good airplane" saying as well. But I always knew that I wanted to try skydiving and then my first good opportunity happened in the summer of 2002 when I did my first tandem. Well from that point on, I knew that I was hooked and I recently showed my brother my recently completed skydiving movie. He's still a total whuffo, but I think my bro understands why I/we jump. 11. Hey congrats and welcome to our addiction. I know what you are going through as I was there, I saw the movie and I paid the piper. Skydiving is not really a sport, it's a life style. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. One of DZ.COM's occasional posters (Dsbbreck) made a jump earlier this year where he was wearing the Denver Broncos mascot costume for a promotional skydive. I guess Dave now shows up every once in a while on the stadium's jumbo-tron during a game making a skydive with this costume. For the record, I believe he did have kind of a scary opening with this costume on that skydive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Welcome to DZ.COM and to our world (or was that our addiction). You might want to update your profile with some basic info (such as your first name and where you are from etc, etc, etc). That way we'll have a better idea as to where you jump and what you've done with your jumping career. Good luck with your jumps ... and keep as posted as to your experiences. 14. Yes I never experienced fogging problems with my goggles while jumping last winter. However we really need to be careful with the gloves that we choose to use. I have two sets of gloves that I have used in the past (and when it's warm enough I'd prefer not to jump with gloves). My football receiver gloves are nice and sticky and tend to do well when it's not that cold outside. And my fleece gloves (orginally purchased a few years ago for specialize mountaineering applications), keep me warm but I recently had a scary close call with them (I came close to dropping a toggle on landing while on a high alt hop n' pop). So be careful with any gloves you choose to use. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I have a Crossfire2 and just thought I'd mention that the rib color isn't all that prominent. I went with the Icarus signature color scheme using Neon Green as my predominate color and black on the ribs and the black just isn't seen that much. If I ever order another Icarus canopy, I will order my color scheme a little different than what I have now, but I must say that I absolutely love my Crossfire2 and I'm sure you will love yours as well. 16. I deal with my alcohol abuse the old fashion way. I suffer. 3 more sleeps until I arrive in FL for "The Bytch Boogie". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Is it Friday yet? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  19. I do know of someone who got the FF handle and then proceeded to get a hackey (or monkey fist). But this individual doesn't have that many jumps and has a hard pull reserve ride in their jump history which may or may not effect their opinion towards the FF handle. But for me, I've never had issues with finding and pulling my FF handle. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I have the Cordura BOC and FF handle. The Cordura BOC is holding up very well (it's still pretty much in the same condition it was when the rig first arrived) and I've never had bad issues with my FF handle. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Those pictures are beautify yet so scary at the same time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Only 4 more sleeps until I arrive in FL for "The Bytch Boogie". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. I didn't jump on Saturday thanks to participating in a volleyball tournament (where we didn't fair so well). But I did manage to get some jumps in on Sunday. 0:3:0 Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Thanks for the vote of confidence ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I take exception to this statement (even though I am only one mistake away from making it reality). I was a pilot before I was a skydiver and I believe that my aviation experience only helped build my skydiving skills to what they may be today (and I haven't broken any bones yet).
