  1. Head shots ... it's all about head shots. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I've got more money that you do ... My house is bigger than your house ... My car is faster than your car ... My dick is bigger than your dick ... and finally My heart attack will be more lethal than your heart attack ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Come on Michael you know this is just not true. Tell that to the six people shot to death last Friday in a Surrey BC condo. Four of the deceased had ties to gangs while two of the deceased were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Violent crime is on the rise up here in certain regions of Canuckville. Most of the time it is the gang-bangers killing each other, but innocent people are being caught in the cross fire. I am gun neutral. I don't like them, but no amount of gun control will take the guns out of the criminals hands Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. We don't need to be getting into this sort of thing folks. Let's go back and read what the OP was asking. Myself and several others have already mentioned that the OP shouldn't freak out too much about jumping in CO. Sure his landings may be a little faster than he is used to, but you know what? He may actually enjoy the added speed. The vast majority of my jumps are at altitude in Colorado (this is where I first started jumping), so I learned to swoop in that environment. But in 2005 when some of the best swoopers in the world came to Colorado to enjoy what we knew all along, they too enjoyed the added speed of swooping at altitude and the vast majority of them didn't have any major issues adjusting. Set up a tad higher, a tad further back and try and come out of the turn a tad higher than normal and he should be fine. Like anyone who wants to swoop, the OP just needs to be smart and not go too big on the first few jumps in CO until he gets used to the environment. But chances are, he will be fine and he may just find that he enjoys jumping in CO. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. One game does not make a series. Last time I checked you needed to win 4 games to win a best of seven series. In a sport such as baseball where on any given night one team can lay a serious ass whopping on another team that just finished beating it on the previous night, well all that we know is that Boston leads this series 1-0 and is in a slightly better situation to win the World Series than Colorado is right now. The fat lady is not even in the state let alone the stadium. PS: I didn't watch the game and likely won't watch any games unless CO is poised to win it all later in the series. So what do I know about baseball, except "There's no crying in baseball". LOL. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Over 10,000+ Americans die every year due to the use of some sort of firearm in many different circumstances. Don't fool yourself, people use them to kill other people. That is their purpose. To kill. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. I have become gun neutral over the years. I am not a fan of guns being a common place in society but at the same time I realize that they are here to stay. I think there are bigger problems facing society. Take organized man made religions and throw in governments and/or so called terrorist organizations controlled by these man made religions as an example. Man made religions will be the death of us all. Guns will only kill a few of us. But the bottom line is, if there are more guns in circulation the odds of them being used to kill people become higher. Take two so called law abiding people, put them behind the wheel of their cars on the highway and add tons of stress to their busy over worked and over taxed lives, throw in the pressure of them losing their homes when the economy is in trouble and the occurences of road rage (or as in another thread someone called it "road tantrums") increase. Now give these two so called normal law abiding people a gun with their road rage and the odds of someone getting shot also increase. You get what you ask for. If you demand a society where it is your right to bare arms, then the odds of people being shot increase. Of course as I said, I am gun neutral. I am not naive enough to think that the criminals will give up their guns if new gun control laws are passed. The criminals will always arm themselves. Guns are not going anywhere, we better get used to them because they are here to stay. I am more afraid of the evangelical christian or the islamic fundamentalist than I am of someone with a gun. Man made religions will be the death of all of us. Both sides are in the process of lining up to fight each other to the death as we speak and they don't give a rats ass who gets in their way. Don't forget evangelical christians embrace the end of the world as if this is a good thing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. No because the air is thinner at altitude. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Don't let jumping in Colorado freak you out. It's not like you are going to be there in the middle of the summer on a hot 100+ degree day where the density altitude is maxed out. Sure things will likely be a little faster than you may be used to, but just take the first few jumps easy and try not to induce too much extra speed until you get used to the area. Plus don't forget to finish your flare. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Bullshit. What a load of bullshit. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Here we go again, another general aviation accident. It has been reported that a Piper Seneca has hit an apartment building in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada after departing the Vancouver international airport on a short flight to Pitt Meadows. Pitt Meadows does have a skydiving operation, but this accident is NOT skydiving related. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071020/wl_canada_nm/canada_crash_col;_ylt=AhcyvRiXYD4hTdoylFls4JGjbA8F Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Thanks for the reply Chris. I will be sending my HR person some questions later in the day since some details have yet to be ironed out. Specificially I need to ensure that my salary keeps pace with the new "cost of living" environment I could find myself in. Secondly I need to find out the time frame they would expect such a transition to occur in. My concern here is fixing up my current house so that I can place it on the market and get a decent price for it. Question: How is the rental market out there? I doubt very much that I would want to purchase a replacement house, at least not at this time. Is the rental market tight? Low vacancies? Maybe Chris can not answer this question if he is not on Long Island right now, but someone else maybe? PS: Yes the employer is "Computer Associates". 13. I do see better skydiving opportunities at the Ranch and Crosskeys over where I currently am. In fact the Ranch has a pond and doesn't Crosskeys also have one too? But it is a little more difficult than just jumping. There is everyday life + work. After all it is work that presents the opportunity. Plus I am still not sure about my house up here in Canuckville. I've got low debt on it and it is worth some money. But it needs more work before I can sell it and while it wouldn't take too much effort in the time frame that I have to paint the house and replace the carpets and light fixtures. But I don't have the time to reno the kitchen and bathrooms like I really should. I guess I need to call in a realtor sometime soon to get an assessment of the house's condition. Plus I have an old pet that needs to be considered. I'm pretty much on the fence here 1/2 leaning towards taking the opportunity and the other 1/2 saying no ... but it would be nice to get back into some good old time jumping. 14. Someone was telling me about the Chicks Rock boogie this last weekend and what a good time it was. Of course that is in the past and I'm not a chick. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Thanks JT ... I have received some good info so far from people like Broke, McBeth and Kenz about the area. But keep it coming. The more people I hear from the better and I am all for hearing the good and not so good aspects about the area. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Hey Chester, too bad the transfer wasn't to Denver, Boulder, Broomfield or Fort Collins. It would be a no brainer then. I hope all is well with you and everyone else at MH. I without a doubt miss the good times I had in my 8 great years in Colorado. Now a job is a job is a job. They come and go. But I am only entertaining this potential transfer as a chance for permanent residency. Of course a certain DZ.COMer (who is attractive I might add) has offered to marry me for this permanent residency (hard to tell if she was serious). It's just a complex issue, there is no love (at least right now) and I always told myself I would never marry someone for the sake of a green card. News at eleven. I have a about 7 days to figure this transfer out. Time to take off my Mr. Procrastinator hat. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. The Ranch or Crosskeys are the two big DZs in the general NY area and one would need to determine the commute as well as the vibes of each establishment to see which one would be preferred over the other. Plus DZ.COM is showing a Long Island Skydiving DZ (their web page still works so that is a good sign), but it's a Cessna DZ (good for hop n' pops) and I have no idea about the rest of the situation there. However ... I do want to point out that I am not living remotely close to the skydiving hub of the world and while there are closer DZs (nothing but Cessna DZs where I am), the best fun jumper friendly DZ in Alberta is a 3 1/2 hour drive from where I am living and I have learned that there is more to life than just skydiving and any potential move to the Long Island region will be influenced by many factors. After all if I really wanted to dedicate my life towards jumping, I would sell my house, become trailer trash and move to some southern DZ. But that would mean being an illegal resident of the US. I will send Broke a PM to see if he? she? has any input on the matter. But please if anyone else any opinions (positive or negative) about life in the Islandia New York area, please speak up. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I learned to swoop on a Sabre2 (before moving down to a Crossfire2, a Velocity and now my JVX). It (the Sabre2) is an outstanding all around canopy. Not sure what else to say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. The large corporation I work for is closing its offices here in Calgary Alberta and they have offered me the opportunity to transfer to a position at their Islandia New York offices. Are there any opinions concerning what life (skydiving and non skydiving) may be like in Islandia? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. My vindication was when we parted ways, myself turning right and my red neck friend forcing himself into the traffic going straight even though he was in a mandatory turn right lane. As soon as I saw him get into it with the next driver, I knew that this "road tantrum" dude was just ... well ... just an asshole. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I see the term "rage" as relating to righteousness. There is nothing righteous in the behavior of these people. That's why I call it like I see it - it's NOT "road rage", it's (more correctly) "road tantrum" Let's call the babies what they really are. ROFLMAO ... road tantrums. That is so true ... I have no doubt in my mind that my red neck friend from yesterday views me as "the idiot" since I made the "why" gesture after he forced his way into traffic at a high rate of speed with inches to spare and yes turn signals were definitely optional to this dude. But I am not the one who was yelling and screaming in his mirror. In fact was was laughing which only may this dude lose it even more. I can only wonder what the poor innocent person to my red friend's left was thinking as we sat there waiting for the light to turn. This innocent person likely had no idea what was up yet the person to their right is yelling and screaming having their "road tantrum". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Not saying this is the case with your potential highway road rager, but the roads we drive on have a way of often turning an otherwise rational person into a raving lunatic who is willing to put their safety and the safety of others around them at risk while they travel in their vehicles. Plus it is also funny that the vast majority of the people out there think that they are above average drivers while they view everyone else as an idiot. Fortunately skydiving has taught me some valuable lessons as to knowing when I should be seeking speed (like when I am swooping in a controlled environment) and when I should be backing off like driving to and from work, the DZ and home. I too had an encounter yesterday coming home from work with someone who was just acting like an aggressive “asshole”. Fortunately I was behind this person after the initial altercation and I knew staying behind this dick was the smart thing to do. He basically (LOL yes he too was a red neck driving his pickup truck) cut me off at a high rate of speed traffic leaving inches to spare and since there wasn’t a whole lot of room between myself and the other vehicle in front of me I had no choice but to brake hard (as my red neck friend also had to do). Of course once stopped my arms go up in the “why” gesture and this red neck just starts losing it (his blood pressure must have skyrocketed) as I begin to laugh at him and wave him off to proceed ahead. Of course he tries the “slam on his brakes in traffic" trick (why someone tries to get themselves into an accident on purpose is beyond me), but I would have nothing of it. Finally he loses interest in me and zooms off. LOL … but you know how traffic is, zooming in and out of traffic never really seems to work and I catch up to him about a mile up the road in a mandatory right turn lane and he starts losing it again. Now here’s the kicker, I am turning right (we are after all in a mandatory right turn lane) but my red neck friend is going straight and since there is a pedestrian in the intersection preventing me from immediately turning right, I get to observe my road raging red neck friend have his next encounter as he forces his way into the traffic going straight and he gets into an altercation with yet another driver. The moral in all this is that some people are just assholes behind the wheel and it’s best to just avoid them at all cost. If this means, turning off where you did not plan to turn off, so be it. Life is too short as it is, to make it even potentially shorter by stooping to the level of some of these road ragers. I am forever thankful that skydiving has put a certain perspective in my life to know when and where to get my jollies going fast. For all those who think they are gods gift behind the wheel, by all means please pass me, I promise to do my best not to be in your way. But don’t expect me to stop one mile down the road and pull your dying body from the traffic accident you just caused because you were too selfish thinking of how precious your time and your life is. PS: this last comment is a generic comment and not at all directed at the OP of this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. John Hege (sp?) is one of the most dangerous people in this world. He is rallying his supporters to ensure armageddon happens within the next 20 years. And red necks like that idiot Glenn Beck are all too proud to help him achieve this goal by giving him air time on TV to rally the christian right wingers of America. Sure Islam has it's radicals. But one does not need to look very far to see America has no shortage of their own radicals. American wake up. You are letting your own radical religious beliefs push all life on earth towards distinction all because of a fictional book writen by humans before mankind knew very much about physics, science and astronomy. If we are the only ones in this universe (as christians tell us), what a complete waste of space. But I forgot the world and the universe that revolves around this world of ours was created 6000 years ago in a period of 7 days. Evangelical christians are just as dangerous as the radical elements of Islam. But it's the Jews and their money? I think not. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. I'm still trying to get a grasp of what this thread is or should be about. I see a lot of PAs and rhetoric without actually talking about welfare. I don't claim to be an expert, but here is where I have no issues whatsoever towards my tax dollars going towards welfare receiptients: The person is physically/mentally disabled to the point where they can not function in the workforce. The physically disabled is a no brainer, mentally disabled is harder to diagnose. But rest assured the mentally disabled do exist and what are we supposed to do with all these physically/mentally disabled people? Let them rot in the streets? How about shoot them? I'm sure some of you would advocate killing these people wouldn't you? Now here is where I do have issues with welfare people: Those who have been raised into thinking that "they do not have to take personal responsibility for themselves and their futures" and it gets worse when one welfare generation breeds the next welfare generation and so on. Where does it end? Welfare should be available. Nobody wants to be thrown out on to the street because they have run into some bad luck. But one person's definition of bad luck is totally different than another person's. I despise the money hungry "I will walk over you to get to the Jones's" people just as much as I despise the "it's my god's given right to sit on my ass all day long and I expect someone else to foot the bill" people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. What are you talking about. It's pretty cool being where I am this time of the year. In fact it's pretty cool being here for pretty much the entire year. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
