How many times have you moved in the last 10 years?
CanuckInUSA replied to davedlg's topic in The Bonfire
I would like to, since Calgary pretty much sucks ass with it's shitty weather, less than desirable jumping opportunities and inflated high cost of living. But first Keith needs to stop telling his friends at the INS that I am a terrorist (and I did come back to Cowtown to reno my house and sell it). But I would like to skip steps #1 through 3 and head directly to step #4. I don't need to go through the Springs again. Sure it is a scenic city. But they are too obsessed with the Devil down there. Wow Dave that is a lot. I have moved around myself. But not as much as you. 1) Jan '98 - Calgary AB to Denver CO 2) May '98 - Denver CO to Colorado Springs CO 3) July '00 - Colorado Springs CO to Boulder CO 4) Nov '04 - Boulder CO to Westminster CO 5) Oct '05 - Westminster CO to White Rock BC 6) Nov '05 - White Rock BC to Burnaby BC 7) Oct '06 - Burnaby BC to Calgary AB Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Hi Sunny If I am not mistaken Shannon was fairly new to the sport around the time that we lost Holly. So it is possible that these two ladies did not know each other here in this world. But we know they are tearing it up in heaven, even if they are not doing it together. I can't help but think of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" song right about now. Also, I'm not sure if Shannon Dean knew Holly Kish all that well, but how similiar were these two ladies when it came to how they both acted and both posted here on DZ.COM and you have to know that if there is a heaven, that these two ladies are tearing it up causing havoc up there. Damn this has the potential to be a sad thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Holly Kish (FreeFlyHol) and even though I only had a casual friendship with her, she was beautiful in so many ways. Party like a rock star ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Wasn't my intent. But I still love my sisters (especially the cool skydiver types) out there. Now if I could just remember where I buried my nuts. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dude you are in dire need of an attitude adjustment. Ever hear the phrase "Men are from mars, women are from venus"? Of course we see the world in a different light. We are different creatures. I'd be willing to bet that anyone of us (especially you) would change our opinions of women if we spent one day let alone a lifetime as a woman. They are our mothers, our sisters, our girlfriends and our wives. Please show these women more understanding and respect. They deserve it, for putting up with the shit we men have thrown at them throughout time. To all the women out there, I know you know this. Not all men are of the same opinion as the OP is, of your gender. We men are far from perfect, just as women too have their faults. But we are in this together. Let's start showing each other more respect. Treat others just as you want to be treated yourself. Here's to all our our sisters out there. We (or at least I) love you.

Religious people don't date non-religious people
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Don't you think we all do this. You do it, I do it, Zen does it, as do others. As much as I hate people who judge people who are different from themselves, every once in a while I catch myself doing the same thing. We all have a little hypocrite in us. Humans love to judge other humans, some just do it more often than others. BTW while this poll is far from scientific, it looks like we are split down the middle. As usually, here in SC the only thing we tend to agree on, is that we disagree with each other. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Velocity? Future? Competition Regulations?

I'm bored but I promise to say something related to this thread. But first ... where are they now? Grant: Destined to come in last at the upcoming PST event. Dave: He'll come in 2nd to last. Steve (me): Labelled a terrorist by Keith and was deported back to the frozen tundra of the north. Russ: Became a tunnel rat if I am not mistaken (he had the potential to be a good PSTer). Tolli: Last seen shooting something in Houston. LOL, isn't that the norm for TX? Aubrey: AWOL Pope: I guess he's back to flying camera and hooking it low digging himself out? Jim H: Vowed to never jump at Mile-Hi again. Eric J: Didn't he become a Dad? Or was he reclaimed by the CReW dawgs? Keith: Retired from swooping to not embarrass all the pro swoopers who train at the new pond. finally ... what about Ryan? did you two lovers have another spat? Good to hear Aaron is competiting. What about Josh Evans? Okay back on topic ... While I respect the skill and knowledge that Paul R has, I doubt we will ever see a "ban the experimental" canopies competition for two reasons. One as someone has already pointed out, who's to prevent someone from secretly modifying their own canopy? But two, where will the innovation and evolution of canopy flight come from. No while multiple classes in a swoop comp does have some challenges, having an advanced and open class at a PST event is likely the way to go. Competitive swooping is a physical sport and the 20 something year old body can recover from the constant beatings easier than the 40 something year old's body. But you're right Will. Even though I am poised to turn 44 within the next couple of months, my age isn't nearly as big of a factor as my location, my currency and the lack of funds to continue to be as current as I once was 2 summers ago. I hope to be swooping years from now and that includes some competitive swooping. I know I can still make the entry gates, I'm just not jumping enough to be good at things like freestyle (especially when I swoop over hard ground). I'm just not sure if I can be a PST competitor living up here in the frozen north. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

It would be nice to see some CPC integration in PST events. I think more people would be interested in competitive swooping if they were allowed to compete at these higher profile events. Even though it was before my time, this once was the case with the advanced class and the pro class swoopers in the PST years 2004 and earlier. But I would not want to see the regional CPC events dissolved. The regional events not only allow people to get a taste of competitive swooping, but we also know that there are tons of talented swoopers who can not afford to travel to PST events. I guess the biggest issue of a large integrated PST/CPC event is getting in all the rounds. CPCers need to be on the same loads to ensure similar weather conditions just as PSTers need to be on the same loads. But the numbers will never be evenly balanced so there will always be weather inequalities between loads (look at the final distance round at last years CPC Championships as an example). But we can't control Mother Nature and we must just accept what that bitch throws at us. But to get back on track ... I would love to be given the opportunity to compete against the best just to see how far I must still progress in this sport and I am grateful that on several occasions I have been given this opportunity already (of course I see the window of my short competitive swooping career closing due to age, location and finances ... but I will live on trying to help the younger swoopers in my area at the grass roots level progress). But I do agree that guys like you and me are pretty much like the 2nd tier drivers on the Formula One race car circuit. We have the skill to compete, but we will never (at least I will never) stand on the podium since not only am I not as talented as the best, but my gear isn't nearly as state as the art as the top guns have. Just like Formula One racing. 2nd tier racers are not on the same level as the top racers driving their state of the art Ferraris. So when it comes to records and that sort of stuff. Open Class, Advanced and Intermediate make sense. But there is no reason why we can't all compete, trash talk, watch and coach each other at the same swoop comps. I would like to thank all the people in the past (like the Ians, the Pauls and others) who have watched me and offered constructive criticism on the swoops they have seen me do in practice and during the actual competitions at these events. There are some sick swoops still to be thrown down. The best has yet to come. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

CanuckInUSA replied to CKSCUBA's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
These are good ideas. We already have the intermediate swoopers in the CPC. What we need is to segregate the Advanced and Open people on the PST. They can compete at the same comps, but preferably the Open Class would be on the same loads with each other so that they have the same weather conditions (as much as we can try and control the weather). The challenge probably falls in the how many people who do compete on the PST now would be interested in Open and how many would remain in Advanced? I know I don't belong in the Open Class but I am curious how many PSTers would prefer to be in the Open Class if the prize money migrated from the current PST prize purse and into mainly the Open Class. I know I don't compete for the money (mainly because I am not good enough to win any when I compete against the best), but we know the money does motivate those who are good enough to place well at these events. Religious people don't date non-religious people
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Ever notice that the religious people don't want to get involved in relationships with the non-religious people and visa-a-versa? I can only assume that it is because the religious people assume the non-religious people will be burning in hell for eternity and why bother wasting their time on these people while they are alive in the only place where we know for sure that concious life does exist. While on the other hand the non-religious people don't want to be constantly be lectured to on the topic, so why bother wasting your time being with someone who lectures you about eternity. Also, I suspect this can also include family members in families where different people share different views on the topic. From my perspective it is too bad we spend far too much time being pre-occupied with something we know little about and it sure would be nice to stop judging people who are different from ourselves. But we know we as humans sure like to judge others instead of taking them for who they are. Agree? or Disagree? Either way, the pot has be sturred. I've only seen John Z once and that was 12 months ago at the CPC championships. Not sure if he's gone to a bigger turn since then, but one year ago he was still only doing 270s yet I was impressed at how fast he could get that stock Velo of his diving at the ground with a simple 270. John Z has some serious talent and because he is a pretty young guy he should be around winning comps for many years to come. There is some seriously good talent out there on the pro ranks these days and a new batch of talent is poised to join the ranks. But I think we can all agree that Jay Moledski is still King of the Hill. But not even Tiger Woods wins every comp he enters. The best has yet to come. Jay may be the king today. But someone, they could be already on the pro circuit or they could be just learning to swoop, will eventually dethrone him. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

LMAO, as I said, I have only myself to blame. Not sure if I would have even been there since I sure as hell am not benefiting in this so called economic boom of ours what with the ultra high cost of housing here. But in the future maybe I should pay more attention to the mag. Ouch, he is a good canopy pilot. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Do you know if Brent Henderson competed? I met him last year in Colorado and he is also a very good swooper. Also, I guess I need to be more proactive in keeping in touch with what goes on in this country. I'm not all that active at the moment and maybe I missed something in the Canpar mag, but I wasn't even aware that those Ontario people were holding some national swoop comp. I place the blame on myself for not being there, but it was not well advertized. Or was it? Maybe next year ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm with you there. The corporate IT world is rather annoying. But don't fool yourself into thinking that becoming an employee of someone will automatically make you happier and more secure. Not all jobs and contracts are created equally. There are pros and cons to the contracting and employment worlds. I can't stand the corporate bureaucracy I am forced to work in day in and day out. The constant TPS reports? The corporate installed spyware on the computer that brings it to a grinding halt and the six month performance reviews where you are constantly judged as being that good corporate lemming. No I am counting the days as to when I can get out of this corporate world. My problem is, is that I have yet to find a suitable new career where the standard of living will not take a huge hit. But I have only myself to blame for the corporate misery I find myself in. I know where the door is, I just haven't taken the necessary steps towards opening it ... yet. Good Luck Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
