  1. Thanks Michele I did get one jump in on my birthday so that was pretty good es especially since its been raining here I think today is the 15th or 16th day in a row. But hey it can't last forever!
  2. Thanks Zennie I needed that on this dreary ass, rainy what should have been a skydiving day. LMAO I guess every generation thinks the next one coming are a bunch of self centered brats. But they always manage to prove their worth.
  3. SkyHawk I wasn't really referring to everyone that lives at home or even everyone your age. This is referred to as the me generation by the experts (if there is any such thing). My kids didn't hose me. I do have two in college and two in High School. Just this weekend I asked all of them to make sure they were here Saturday morning because the house needed cleaning and Their Mom and I could use some help. The only one that did not throw a fit was the 12 year old. The rest were just way to busy. One even went so far as to say I just did the dishes a couple of weeks ago. We have a dish washer. So if you live at home and help out with chores, and don't just use the place like a free Hotel. If you respect the fact the dishes, the food, the yard work, and the cleaning don't happen through some magic trick. Then I wasn't talking about you and I commend you for your efforts to better yourself, through education. I know its not easy I had to keep a full time job, and my own place and go to school. I know how hard it can be. All I'm saying is appriciate the things that are done for you, but more importantly recognize the things that are done for you.. Besides I turned 47 yesterday and I'm old, its my job to criticize young folks and point out how great the world was in my day!
  4. Nope! So if you have someone you love and loves you so much it hurts when they're sick, and its tourture when they die. You are one lucky, lucky person. I'll never know what its like to loose a parent or grand parent. My parents had 3 kids and didn't want us. We grew up in seperate foster homes. I went through many different homes from the age of 5-17 My last year of High School I lived in a screened in summer house in a New Jersey winter. I had a sleeping bag. At age 17 I joined the Marine Corps, so I would have a job and place to live. If you already have those things then I would work like hell to keep them. You should see what the Marine Corps expects for room and board. I'm not judging your whole being only what you said on a public forum. I know you were looking for some sympathy or just venting. But you don't always get what you expect from the public in general. So do I still think your an ungratefull shit? I'll leave that judgement for you make.
  5. I know what you said on a public forum and you got the response you deserve based on the information you gave on the forum. If you want me to shut up then don't post your private affairs on a public forum. I won't involve myself in your private matters anymore so this is all I'll have to say. I honestly hope help your Mother with a smile especially if you really don't want to be there. The rewards will be great! Bleau Skies What I do know is that you have said you live at home, you can't afford to move out, you have gone through AFF and you are ordering a new rig. In my mind that makes you an ungratefull little shit!!! I have 5 kids ages 12-21 and I know the me generation all to well. Live off parents and play with your own money. If I'm wrong I'm sorry but as I said based on the information you provided in a public forum you got an honest public answer.
  6. You sound like one ungratefull little shit!! After all that is done for you, its to much trouble to give a little back? This is truely the me generation!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Well not my taste but of course each his own. I would go with bright colors, it just looks so much better in the air, and on the ground if you have to find it. But hey thats what makes the world go round.
  8. Alan I agree with you. I saw several that when I read them I thought they just didn't belong here. I have all but quit going to the open forum because I just don't like the tone anymore. How ever I do enjoy reading and posting in the gear and rigging and safty forums. I have leaned a lot. I do think that some could easily have been moved to the open forum, so I'm glad you'll keep that in mind. Thanks for trying, you won't please everyone.

    Sorry Kay!

Well done Clay, lets keep it fun without the personal falme wars!
  10. Well done JKA, lets have some fun without the personal flames wars!
  11. Why force Sangiro to come in a take action again? Your an adult, so please act like one and delete this thread. There is no reason to force action when you know its wrong to come onto a public forum and claim asshole status and then act like one! Why not put it all behind you and start over, I'm sure no one will hold a grudge if you do the right thing.
  12. Hi Milo I jump a triathlon loaded at 1.2 and I find thats its a great novice canopy. I a lot heavier then you so mine is a 175. I don't think you'll have any problems at that loading on a triathlon. Its forgiving but still fast enough to give you great landings and fly into the wind on those less then perfect days. Now the big question does a 175 loaded at 1.2 fly the same as say a 120 loaded at a 1.2? I don't think so, I think the smaller you go the more effect wing loading has on a canopy so while a 175 triathlon loaded at a 1.2 might be safe for a newer person. A 120 triathlon loaded at a 1.2 may not.
  13. Congrats Dick, it looks like the sky and your mind are your only limits now!

Hi Tee My wife dives with contacts on all the time. She uses a purge mask so she don't have to move it or raise it to clear the water. Also if a contact does come off in a purge mask, you can retrieve it when you get to the surface. SCUBA diving is a great sport, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Have fun! Blue Water, Blue Skies
  15. Hey Zennie whats the deal with 21K? Whats going on at San Marcos?

Well I think wuffo's want to see someone bounce, so blade running close to the ground is the action they would most likely watch. Pesonally I can't watch a video of FF its just makes me dizzy. I like watch from the air but not the video.
  17. Hey Bill Thanks for posting these Quincy stories, its a nice change from some of what we've been reading here. These are the type of post that brought me to dz.com in the first place. I had a reserve ride last weekend broke some lines, so my canopy is gone for a reline and the reserve for a repack. Its great to be able to read about a boogie and some skydive's while I'm on the ground. Keep up the good work, I'm sure others are enjoying the reading as much as I am.
  18. Hi Michele I'm a bit of a lay person so I'll explain in lay terms. The above explained wing loading rather well so I'll just tell you what to expect at higher wing loadings. Your canopy flys straight in much faster (forward speed) also the canopy turns much quicker. This means that the canopy dives faster, and your body swings out from under the canopy quicker. The recovery arch is longer. It will keep you out there longer. A lighter loaded canopy has a little less forward speed, the turns are slower your body swings out less and the recovery arch is shorter. So if you happen to make a mistake (low turn) under a lightly loaded canopy you won't be going as fast and the odds of recovery (getting back under your canopy) before you strike the ground are better. Hence it is more forgiving.

  20. Hey Mark I know how you feel about the way the threads were going. I was about to pull the plug myself, but I know there's still a lot of good folks here and couldn't let the few take over. Glad you decided to stick it out. By the way I suffer from arthritus a spinal type with a large name. My doctor calls it varience arthritus it attacks the spine as well as the large joints. Hips, knee's, elbows and now even the hands and feet. I'm taking two drugs Viox and Ultram between the two it keeps things down to a dull roar and allows me to continue jumping, and working. If you haven't give them a try they sure help me. Good luck I know how painfull it can be. Larry
  21. The main has about 425 jumps and has never been relined. The lines appear in very good condition. Both steering lines broke about 20" below the cascade. Even the steering lines appeared to be in good shape. All other lines were not hurt on this jump. It seems real strange to me, and for that matter all the other folks that looked at it. Some of those having upwards of 3000 jumps. I sent it to a master rigger of course to see what he thought and for repairs. I just thought I would see if some of you experienced folks have ever seen this before and what might have caused it. Thanks for replying.
  22. I didn't know if this should go in safety or gear, anyway I'm here now. Today I had an opening that started in a left spin, fairly fast. After two turns it stopped and slammed open. I looked up and saw the left steering lines were broken, I started into a slow left spin. ( which made no sense ) I reached up to grab the left toggle and it wasn't there. I was still in a left turn. I countered with right rear riser and had it flying straight. I looked up and saw a lot of lines broken, both steering lines so I flew over the pea area and chopped it. I had a great reserve opening and ride. Raven-m 218. So my question is what could make both steering lines break at the same time? I think my left turn was caused by lines wrapping and closing the end cells on the left side. But I can't figure out what could have caused both steering lines to break. We checked slider grommets and they looked fine, no other lines were hurt the canopy was ok. So if anyone has any idea's I would love to hear. I just can't think of how I could have packed that into that main. (Triathlon 175) loaded at 1.2 so a docile main at that.
  23. Well it seems really heavy to me. I've messed up lots of skydives and I'm still alive.
  24. *** "Stainless is marginally stronger" *** I dont think I would call it marginally stronger, its almost twice as strong. For example Rapid connector links 3.5 safe working load 220 lbs. 3.5 stainless safe working load 480 lbs. 4 safe working load 400 4 stainless safe working load 615 I work in a refinery and we use stainless everywhere we can because its stronger and more corrosion resistant then carbon or other types of steel. That said I don't have stainless on my rig, cause, The risers or webbing would probably break first anyway. However I'm not a rigger and don't know that to be fact. But stainless is a lot more expensive. It is stronger, but I don't know if that translates to safer if your risers break first anyway. Then again it does look great.
