  1. I think that when a child is born, the person or 2 people who intend to "parent" the child should legally accept that responsibility. When shit goes south and only one of those people is actually doing the parenting, the other one is on the hook for child support. Lol, look at you applying logic to a system where they legislate based on emotion. cavete terrae.
  2. I've ridden a few times here when the temp was ~100F. (2) 1 liter bottles of water didn't even last 15 miles. Yeah I'm a prolific sweat-producer so I average about a litre every 5 miles out of my camelbak. Though to be fair, 5 miles on my bike is probably about like 10 on yours cavete terrae.
  3. The week prior I had sworn I would ride all 5 days of last week, "come hell or high water". With only one day under 100 (96…), I got the former! cavete terrae.
  4. Thought of another one: Dressing up. Fuck suits, fuck tuxedos. cavete terrae.
  5. God that's ridiculous. Just another reason to never, ever participate in parenthood in any way for me. cavete terrae.
  6. We get wind by the shitload here in the winter. Half the rides I miss in the winter is because the wind is so high I can't even hold a line in the crosswind. The ride home frmo work one day last week was infuriating. Not only was it 113°F, but I had a brutal crosswind picking up sand from the beach and sandblasting me as it was trying to blow me into traffic cavete terrae.
  7. I had to google that. For a moment, I thought you were talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pika aww how cute! cavete terrae.
  8. Except it not that simple.... not all calories are made equal... The calculation is based upon burning stuff in a Bomb Calorimeter... and our bodies don't do that. It would be a bit like saying if you consumed 1000 cals of paper... your'll put on as much weight as if you eat 1000 cals of sugar ... yeah right... It's a rough estimate at best... BUT if it get's you examining what you eat then good. That's true, but when it comes to actual food consumption instead of pica, it'll hold true in the overwhelming majority of cases cavete terrae.
  9. Agreed. Even when I was putting in crazy long rides (up to 14 hrs in the saddle in one day), I never seemed to lose any weight. It was only when I started working on restricting my diet that I dropped the weight. But the weird thing is if I miss my regular every-second-day 2.5hr ride, I can easily start gaining weight. Yeap .. weight gain/loss is still a complete mystery to me too.. and clearly to the 'industry' too - agents of which often contradict each other to try and sell their latest 'magic-oh-this-one-will-really-work-this-time' wares Personally, I'm going down the simplified food (made from primary ingredients and not packets route) and running my arse off (literally).. my cycle stays in the shed 'till spring. If you consume less calories than your body needs, you will lose weight. It's that simple. If you need (for example) 2,800 calories a day to maintain your current weight and you eat 1,800 calories of ANYTHING for a week, you'll lose two pounds or so. During my weight loss I was explaining this to a friend who went on some ridiculous rant about fats and carbs being the devil, I bet him $50 I could lose 2 pounds in one week having a burger and fries for lunch and a frozen pizza for dinner for a week. Took the girlfriend out to dinner and a movie with the winnings cavete terrae.
  10. Ok, cyclist rant time: Why the fuck do people who are trying to lose weight and get fit wear low-drag clothing on lightweight bicycles with skinny tires and clip-in pedals? Buy a cheap heavy piece of shit that actually takes some effort to move around, you'll get a better workout. Furthermore: When I, a recovering fatty on a $200 crap bike that is the wrong size with wide tires and no clip-ins, pass a guy on a multi-thousands road bike, he should feel ashamed. cavete terrae.
  11. I'll give them some slack; At least they are making an effort to solve the problem. And technically, I was one once. How are we defining overweight, exactly? BMI > 25. Please don't support the use of that bullshit metric. cavete terrae.
  12. He's a fucking lunatic, but he's made some very, very enjoyable films. cavete terrae.
  13. I don't see the problem with 'em if they're properly done. cavete terrae.
  14. You almost killed me!!I was drinking my coffee when I read your list. Yup, I inhaled it instead. Dang! coffee?? How can you not love/like coffee?? It's just gross to me. I forgot to put tea on the list, as well. cavete terrae.
  15. oh, and cricket. What the fuck. it's like baseball, on valium. cavete terrae.

  17. Personally I think the country she lives in, or is a citizen of (is she?) , should be a bigger factor than where daddy was born. cavete terrae.
  18. That's interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about her representing a country she wasn't born in and apparently hasn't lived in, though. Then again, the Olympics aren't where people look for integrity or logic, I guess. cavete terrae.

    NFL question

No kidding: standing for the Anthem is the most exercise the fans are going to get the whole game, other than walking to the concession stand for more beer and bratwurst. Elvisio "I'm still a supporter of a no-fuss no-muss Anthem" Rodriguez The fans? Hell, I was talking about most of the players cavete terrae.

    NFL question

If I tried I'd probably lose my composure and laugh at the "free" and "brave" parts. They sure don't mean what they used to. cavete terrae.
  21. Who are "they"? And why is it any different from SIM Section 6-7 G1? I don't know why BPA requirements are more restrictive than the recommendations in the SIM - you'd have to ask the BPA board about that. "They" are the British skydivers I 've met over here, who almost to a person grumble that the BPA rules are excessive. Two guys from Devon used the "Ban Parachuting Assoc" name. Because the Aussies have a bigger nanny state than the US, and the UK makes Australia look like Somalia. cavete terrae.
  22. I'm incapable of hearing "I have a dream" without my brain adding Sam Kinison screeching "AW FUCK I HAVE A HEAD WOUND" after it cavete terrae.

    NFL question

It's an allegedly athletic competition filled with fat people standing around doing nothing for most of the game, what makes you think they'd have appropriate people for the pregame entertainment? cavete terrae.
  24. I hate the Broncos, and am ok with the Seahawks, so I'd prefer they win. However, they probably won't. I'm somewhat disappointed there wasn't a "Sum of All Fears"-style attack on the Broncos-Patriots game, though. cavete terrae.
