garlic & herb-marinated bocconcini for an appetizer Spinach & ricotta toasted ravioli in a rosé sauce with grilled chorizo and prawns then off to Ben & Jerry's for brownie sundaes*, with a brief visit to the bathroom when we get home so I can puke it all up to avoid putting on the 8 pounds that would otherwise accompany all of that *I would normally do my best-in-the-universe key lime pie but I've been unwell this week and haven't had the time to source everything I need, but she'll be OK with this… or at least she better be cavete terrae. -

Every time that I fear the US or Australia has hit humanity's peak for stupid, cowardly nanny state bullshit, the fogbreathers over on knifecrime island manage to prove my fears groundless. cavete terrae. -
I've been saying for years, that nuclear power is the cleanest, safest form of non-geographically-dependent base grid power generation, especially if we stop being retards and start recycling our fuel. There's no credible alternative. Unfortunately, the scientifically illiterate packs of morons out there are sperging out about safety issues pertaining to plants from the middle of last century. We don't judge cars by their crash test results from 60 years ago, do we? No, we develop better cars, just as we've developed better reactors. cavete terrae.

How Govt Officials Cried ‘Terrorism’ to Cover Up a Paperwork Error

Not ENTIRELY fair to blame his band of retards. They only continued the charade. But then again if you move into a house where they kept a rape dungeon and there's someone down there, you're just as bad if you don't free that person. cavete terrae. -
US govt "debates" more extrajudicial murders of own citizens
grue replied to grue's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, you better get a time machine because you sure as hell isn't doing this "at the start" in this case and because of that it certainly does appear as if the reason you're doing it has little to do with the actual act itself, but rather who in particular you'd like to blame for it. At the start of my learning of it, anyway. I won't pretend that I gave much of a shit about politics until about 2004. As for who I'd like to blame? I blame the US government going back a long fucking way in a general sense, but Bush and his cronies really amped it up, and every single person who voted for PATRIOT, MCA, FISA Amendments and all that shit are complicit. But there's not really a point in railing against people who aren't in office now, because I can't change what they did… but it's not too late to STOP what they're doing NOW. In the end I suppose I'm probably trying to piss into the wind here. Can't let concepts like "learning from history" or "not being a murderous shitlord" get in the way of a good sand nigger killin'. Giddyup. cavete terrae. -

1. He's more than simply not, "a fan." So that's, false equivalence. 2. Reductio ad absurdum. If you truly believe taking out a terrorist in some terrorist friendly country via drone strike, US citizen or not, means you are next in line with the substitution of a few simple words, then you are either admitting you're a terrorist yourself or you're unwilling to admit you're delusional. I'm thinking more along the lines of boiling a frog, and parallels to the Nazis. You can call it a reductio ad absurdum, I'll point out that less than a century ago, a hell of a lot of people were reductio ad ashes and air pollution via a path that is disturbingly close to the one our nation is walking. I'm gonna start calling out bullshit behavior from the government at the start, in hopes it doesn't escalate into something even more evil. All it takes for evil to triumph, etc. cavete terrae. -

Well, I suppose it depends on what you want to call reliable evidence. So far we haven't seen much against this particular guy, but in the last US citizen case (apparently the only kind we care about), he admitted he was a terrorist on YouTube. Recourse? For an admitted terrorist? Really? Oh wait, special circumstance we're carving out so if it's a US citizen that somehow changes things. Riiight. I care just as much about the Pakis and Yemenis and the other poor schmucks that we're obliterating as I do the Americans. Perhaps more, actually, since they're not choosing to be over there. However, from the perspective of "wow that's fucked up" I find it a lot crazier that we're killing our own completely outside of a sane justice system. If they're willing to kill other Americans for not being a fan of the US government, there's nothing to stop them from doing it to me. All they have to do is make a case that the person is a "terrorist", and then they get to go kill them and the population will either look the other way, or jump in the air and cheer them on. If they could get the "terrorists" to wear a star and crescent on their sleeve and then throw 'em into boxcars, there's not much doubt in my mind they'd give it a shot. But thanks to technology, they can bring the death to the people they're demonizing instead of bringing the demonized people to their death. Like I said: "first they came for the 'terrorists'…" As for the ones they have already killed, and whatshisface being an "admitted terrorist"… it's almost like we have this existing justice system where people can have a trial, and a jury of their peers (yes, they're still humans with peers), and checks and balances and the ability to have one's day in court with defenses. cavete terrae. -

The entire program is subject to judicial review and has been looked at multiple times. I believe this is the latest. http://www.justice.gov/slideshow/AG-letter-5-22-13.pdf Yeah the government can definitely be trusted to do the right thing: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2014/02/no-fly-coverup/ This woman got her situation unfucked after years of fighting. As would I. I think in some cases though, you do have to address an immediate threat. Understand though what the people against my position have been saying though and how furious they are over the killing of a "US citizen" terrorist compared to the literally hundreds upon hundreds if not thousand upon thousands of non-US citizen terrorists. Where was their generic outrage? Pretty much zero. Oh, but suddenly "Obama" (actually a panel from the military but let's blame it on Obama anyway) wants to take some guy who can somehow be traced back to 'Merica and it's an outrage. Riiight. No. I've been angry about us using drones and violating the sovereignty of other nations for quite a while now. I don't care what passport someone holds, WE are acting like terrorists when we do this shit. cavete terrae. -

Experience with Nitron at moderate wingloading (1.4ish)?
grue replied to grue's topic in Gear and Rigging
While I'm not yet at a point where I particularly feel like downsizing, due to some significant weight loss I expect I'll be ready for something a bit smaller later this year. I'm currently on a Fusion 190 (and I had a Fusion 210 before this), which I was loading at a 1.5 but now down below a 1.3 That said, I'm not looking to jump into something super high performance that I can't use if I want to jump in a big group or while wearing a wingsuit, just maybe a bit more… interesting? The Fusion apparently just being a Nitron with less taper and no hot dogs, or so I'm lead to believe, it seemed logical that for my next downsize I could demo a Fusion 170 for a couple of dozen jumps and then buy a Nitron so I'm not downsizing and going to a more radical planform at the same time. So anyway I guess I'm just curious as to how people like the Nitron at loadings that aren't super high, and if you'd consider it worthwhile for someone not looking to swoop 600 feet, just wanting a canopy that'll give predictable openings, a good glide, and a good flare while still being responsive enough to get the blood pumping a bit as I learn it more. cavete terrae. -
You can have all the theories that you want. However, I think that one is way out in FantasyLand. I know of no one who voted for Obama that no longer supports him. And I accept that that is a very small sampling. JerryBaumchen I can name one My girlfriend voted for him in '08, she deeply regrets it now. cavete terrae.

That's awesome. Let me translate, "I've no evidence that Obama slept with Beyonce, but he probably did, because I dislike Obama. As backing evidence for my dislike, let me point out that he slept with Beyonce." No, professor, read harder. I already believe he's a bad person, if this were true it would simply add further reasons for that. cavete terrae.

US govt "debates" more extrajudicial murders of own citizens
grue replied to grue's topic in Speakers Corner
Our government has shown itself to really not subscribe to the checks and balances idea anymore, and to be willing to rubber stamp pretty much anything. This might be different, but I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Your comparison is disgusting on several levels and woefully wrong. I disagree. I think the fact that they're willing to fear monger, violate Constitutional rights, and kill their own citizens over a label and words absolutely justifies drawing comparisons with what has happened in the past. It's not on the same level, but it started a similar way. cavete terrae. -

Asking to prove negatives is never the right debate tactic. it's absolutely the right question to ask, based on our founding principles of justice. Nope. Innocent until proven guilty. Try again. When the burden of proof is as simple as calling someone a "terrorist", the bar's pretty low. Terrorists are the new Jews, frankly. cavete terrae. -

grue replied to grue's topic in Speakers Corner
Can you prove you aren't in a terrorist organization? Asking to prove negatives is never the right debate tactic. No. That's simply not how it works. The way it DOES work is the government proves to a judicial panel this guy is, in fact, connected to terrorists. With the last guy it was relatively easy since he admitted it on YouTube several times. My guess is this is a similarly blatant case. We'll find out all the grisly details about it later I'm sure as well. You have a lot more faith in our government to do the right thing than I do. cavete terrae.
