The currently unsustainable world population growth rate.
grue replied to grue's topic in Speakers Corner
Not the ONLY . . . But it FAR SURPASSES carbon credits. Unless you can equate the two in value. 4 billion Carbon Credits for a vasectomy without kids, 2 Million if only one kid, 750K for after 2, but less than 6. 250K for a vasectomy after 7 to 12, 50K for a Vasectomy after 12. Vasectomy is interchangeable with hysterectomy/tubes tied. Population reduction should be subsidized more than a freaking Electric Car. I think carbon credits are a horrible joke, but if someone wanted to pay me to get the snip I'd be open to offers. cavete terrae. -
Is that sarcasm? Or is there a reason you say that? I would suggest a combination of (in order of amount of emulation) US/Canada, England, Bosnia, Australia, and Crete. because it's been demonstrated pretty well that the larger the governed area, the more awful the government becomes. I cannot imagine the horror of a one-world government. As for your list, are you talking about structure or action? Because between England, Australia and to a marginally lesser extent the US and Canada there is a whole lot of fuck-your-civil-liberties, we-know-what's-best-for-you nanny state goin' on there. cavete terrae.

Democrats introduce bill to end the death penalty
grue replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Never. The lack of competition and "everyone wins" attitude that parents seem to be instilling is one of the reasons so many kids are cowardly little shits these days. Yeah I dunno how they'd do it. It certainly shouldn't be a factor in pay, though. Quality over quantity, etc. It's ridiculous, and reflects poorly on the legislature AND the judicial world for not striking them down whenever they can. cavete terrae. -

My solution? Quit fucking murdering people in the name of the state, for starters. That is a step in a process, not the solution. What is the your solution. I'm not being a smart ass. I am interested in what you see the solution being. I, for one, am reluctantly looking forward to being present as a witness to the death of a guy named Miguel Oyola, when it happens. He was convicted of murdering a very good friend of mine as well as a good friend to a LOT of people on this forum site. I would rather have my friend back, but that isn't possible. I'll have to take what satisfaction I can, what closure I can, watching Miguel take his final breaths. I'll just consider it a very late term abortion. I'm at least tangentially familiar with the case you speak of for obvious reasons, and I won't try and change your mind on it. My actual solutions on the matter? We've got overzealous cops and overzealous prosecutors who'll do whatever it takes to close a case, and they aren't held accountable when they fuck people over. That needs to stop, immediately. I'm sure there are a lot of reasons it happens, and perhaps those should be discussed and fixed. Removing a lot of bullshit laws from the books (and ho-lee shit are there a lot of 'em I'd strike down given the opportunity) could reduce the amount of workload the police and prosecution have, which could potentially improve the quality of their work. The prosecution not putting such an emphasis on winning cases (fictional movies lead me to believe all prosecutors keep track of their win/loss record. Everything in movies is true) would probably be good, and if their compensation is linked to that, something is definitely wrong. so on, so forth. cavete terrae. -

I'm strongly against governments telling people how to live their lives, so I'm not in favor of regulation on the matter, however, would it be so bar for those of us in the first world to set a good example and calm the hell down? Maybe more people should stop treating vaginas like clown cars and seeing how many kids they can make fall out of one? Maybe more people should stop having kids altogether? Three of the biggest issues I see in the way, at least in our culture: Irresponsibility: Women getting knocked up to keep their mate around. Guys slinging their dick everywhere without wrapping it. Breeding for additional welfare money (is that actually a thing, or just a myth?). Social pressure: How many people have friends and family say "Oh when you have kids…" or "When will you have kids?" like it's some sort of foregone conclusion that everyone should have them or want them? Religion: Obviously religions have a vested interest in more drones coming out of their adherents, hence why many of them hate birth control and love to throw that mindset around, while they're allegedly "helping". Disclaimer: I don't like kids and I'm open about that. This post was caused by trying to navigate around someone's brood at the store a little while ago cavete terrae. -

My solution? Quit fucking murdering people in the name of the state, for starters. Frankly I have little hope for our system anymore, especially seeing as the shitlords in our federal government think it's perfectly ok to hunt down and murder US citizens overseas without a trial. cavete terrae. -

if you imprison a guy for 50 years and 10 years after his death, realize, 'shit, we messed up.' Yeah, not a heck of a lot better. But if you give him life in prison, and figure out after 20 years (right around the time the death penalty would finally have been applied....you seriously messed up his life in ways that can't be undone, but at least he's only middle aged and can try to enjoy the latter half. I cannot imagine the damage that 20 years in prison would do to my life. If I heard that someone was imprisoned for 1/4 of his expected life (and really more than that since the stuff between 20 and 65 is what really matters, for the most part), and upon release he killed every single person who was involved with putting him behind bars, I would totally understand and probably applaud his effort. cavete terrae. -

What's your thoughts on letting people get way with crimes? There has to be a balance. I'd rather have people get away with it than people wrongfully convicted. I'm not willing to sit in prison to make the system seem better, it'd be hypocritical to expect someone else to. Let's say you committed an armed robbery and got away with it. Either acquitted or never tried. Then you were wrongly convicted for a robbery you didn't commit. The result is correct, but there was a process flaw. I see what you're getting at, but I disagree with your assessment of it because it ignores the fact that people who have committed no crime get swept up in this shit, too. cavete terrae. -

Agreed. My point was simply that there is a miniscule number of false convictions and of those most if not all likely have committed the same or worse crimes. Once you extrapolate to death penalty cases, it just becomes mathematically insignificant. Until someone shows evidence of wrongly convicted and executed persons with no previous similar crimes in the US within the last 30 years... I don't think wrongly imprisoning someone is that much better than wrongly executing them. Imprisonment is social murder, execution is physical murder. cavete terrae. -
Honestly, if you want the theator to run and make a profit... Who do you hire if you want it to put on challenging minimalist productions mixed with interpretive dance and survive off a government arts grant? Ron motherfuckin' Swanson cavete terrae.

Summary of 2013 US sport skydiving fatalities

IIRC, the AADs went back to the families, who declined to provide them to Airtec for examination. Mark Wow...really? Something I never thought about, but may be a good idea to let my loved ones know it's my wish to allow for any & all investigation be made, in the hope of furthering the safety of the sport..."if' something ever happens that is. Yeah I may need to advise my family not to be selfish idiots. It might considered be too harsh to deem people who would do that as such, but I'm standing by it because they're actively impeding efforts to prevent other people from suffering the fate of their loved ones. cavete terrae. -

Probably because the reserve did not open in time. All an AAD does is cut the loop. It does not open your reserve. It’s up to the jumper to save their life. These 2 jumpers failed to that. Sparky Definitely, but I'd like to see more Specific causality. cavete terrae. -

So if a person murdered someone but for one reason or another was not tried and/or convicted of that crime but then was falsely convicted of a murder they did not commit, that's not karmic justice? No, it's a double failure of the system. The second failure is the one I cannot forgive. cavete terrae. -

#1&2 are still the ones that concern me the most. Did we ever find out why the hell they bounced after an AAD fire? cavete terrae. -
Because that was a stupid suggestion. If you need a degree for a job, you'll get the degree or you'll find a different job. You don't need a degree to do the overwhelming majority of the work out there. The only real-world change everyone going to college would be is causing "degree inflation". If everyone has a degree, a degree becomes worthless unless it's a MS/MA or better. Not to mention, quite frankly, most of the fucking retards out there shouldn't have graduated from high school. Heaven knows if I could get 4 years of my life and $50k back and the only downside is I don't have a stupid piece of paper, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Especially since I left an exceptionally well-paying job to go back to school in order to make my family happy. Stupidest fucking decision I have ever made in my life. cavete terrae.
