As I am now, no. All I have is His word. . How about the part where it says thw sun stood still in the sky? As long as Moses (or maybe Joshua) held his hands up to God, the sun stood still and the Isrealites had the advantage in the battle. For that to happen, the Earth would have had to stop turning on its axis. At the latitude of the battle, the liniar velocity of the surface might have been around 7 or 8 hundred miles an hour. Is that how the Israelites won? They all clung to trees and big rocks in the ground and when the Earth stoped turning the Philistines kept going? Now that's the way to have God on your side. Yeah, that one has bothered me since I was in 3rd grade. Irreguardless... Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?

Had you pointed out to me that ending a sentence with "at" is incorrect, I would have replied, "Where's Leo at, asshole."

It's not the picture that's offensive but the circumstances that brought it about. It's offensive when war is waged without a thought as to the "rightness" of it. The Powill Doctrine is still relavent despite what Rumsfeld said. In fact I find Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz and their whole gang very offensive. The location of my wife. Why would you check for me? I don't care if you look! Like when you said, "Be honest, do these jeans make me look fat?" Yeah. That had to be the first one that comes to mind. And as Ustajump said, Lonesome Dove. I would add The Stand. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?

I guess this is a philosophical question. If a really stupid person calls you an idiot, is it an insult? Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?

Kill a cheata? She must have killed the entire herd! It couldn't have been a "pride" of cheatas because some would've rubbed off on her and she obviously has none. I'm wondering what the history of criminal prosecution is when some thing like this happens on the playing field. Sports Illustrated showed an old pictuer of Juan Marichel (sp) with a baseball bat as he was hitting somebody from 40 something years ago. A wild pitch in baseball or a blindside hit on the football field is one thing but this stuff way outside the rules should have legal consequences. Does anyone have an idea about how this has been handled in the past? Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Remember that no things are never so bad that they can't get worse. I don't know if that's a positive or negative statement but it's a true one.

As long as you didn't try to explain the other persons behavior by saying, "Oh, that's just the he is." Sorry, (there's that word again) but that's a sore spot with me. "He's a real jerk but that's just the way he is." I don't care if that's the way he is. If he's an asshole, that's unexceptable. Assholes should be a pariah and be avoided by all of society. Just as "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" an asshole with any expanation still smells like shit. I have a low tolerance for assholes even though I've been one myself and for that I apologize. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. I don't know why there would be any ridicule about such true statements. Oh, and don't apologize for it.

Back about '88 I was jumping a Mavarick that opened pretty abruptly. On this particular jump, it felt like I jumped off a bridge with kevlar instead of bungee. I heard my neck make odd cracking noises and my right arm was no longer useful. I landed one handed and the arm was still really tingleing. 2 days later it still tingled so I went to the chiropractor. He took some X-rays. I was sitting there in the exam room when he walks in with the X-rays and says, "When did you break your neck?" I got really still, didn't want to move a mucsle. He says no, it's OK, it must have happened a long time ago. He shows me the pictures and there is one long irregular vertibrae where there should be 3. C 3, 4, & 5 I think. They had all grown together over the years and if they had still been normal there would've been enough flexibility to bend and break. WOW!! A few days later, I remembered an event from childhood. I was 5 or 6 and was showing off (Yeah, even then) seeing how far I could jump from the swing set. I could swing the highest so I could jump the farthest. Except that I swung so high I wound up getting out of the swing backwards. I came down square on my head, luckily and had a REALLY stiff neck for a while. That must have been when it happened. It may also explain a lot about the rest of my life. "He fell on his head as a child."

I'm guessing that you don't work at a place where they make you pee in a cup.

Be the first one to the crater. That's very Old School. "Jumped once, never used"

Thankfully, it's not a vengeful feeling, but I feel really, really, really wound-up/upset Bought the house with my now-ex. I could go into details about how I thought we would get married & last forever, but that would only encourage people to point out how stupid I was, etc., etc., and I wouldn't really be able to disagree.. Some one on here has a signature line that I really like: "Holking on to anger is like holding a hot coal with the intention of throwing it at some one. You're the one who gets burned." or something like that. On the other side of that coin is, "Seeing the recognition in their eyes is half the reason for pulling the trigger." I haven't been there in quite a while. Love is never stupid. It's a wonderful thing to be able to do and to receive. How we act in the real world around us while we are in love... Well, it's hard to be objective about ourselves in that case. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. That's right!! If you're gonna break big laws, don't break little ones. They don't see you doing anything illegal, they just see you acting guilty/suspecious. Not that I've ever needed those rules you understand. Just something I heard. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. It sucks just as bad as a 60 year old in North Carolina. I'd LOVE to look forward to going to work on any Monday. And if you hate Mondays, get over it. If we didn't have them, we would hate Teusdays.

Yeah, what he said. Very Zen. That turned my tickle box over.

The Army taught him that? Is that the same Army that said Iraq would be easy and over in just a few weeks? And Counsilman24: It's been a long time since I heard the "Grab the grass" theory.

The Evolution of Language (NOT a grammar Nazi thread!)
Niki1 replied to MikeJD's topic in The Bonfire
There was a debate in a Bible Belt state 30 or 40 years ago about making English the official language. At some point, a state senator stood up with a King James Bible in his hand and said, "If English was good enough for our Lord Jesus Christ, it's good enough for the people of our state." I try to write correctly as I was taught (on clay tablets) but I'm not always successful. Especially with spelling. I hope I'm not overly critical of those who don't rise to my mediocre standards. BUT I do have a pet peive about what I call "indestinct pronouns". Most of the time it's in conversation when some one is talking about 3 or 4 people discussing an issue and says something like, "He said this and then she said that, then she said something and he said something..." and on and on. It's difficult to determine who said what without interupting and cross examining the speaker. In writting, I try my best to avoid this by identifying the person I'm quoting but that tends to make seem banal (is that the right word?) and tedius. As well as over long. Well, just had to get that out of my system and this thread was the closest avenue I've seen in a while. Big deal. Now, if it was a hole-in-one Double Eagle, well now that would be something,
