Which at least proves God really is on America's side and not the French with their godless metric system. Amen, Brother Quade! Tell it like it is. Thanks for the laugh.

I think that if you get close enough to smell them you're gonna find out if they're poisonous or not.

Easily they should hire me to test Nuclear waste transport containers Yeah, I have the same trouble. I've been told that I have a Midus Touch. Everything I touch turns to mufflers. Say, does anyone here know how to fix an anvil? Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. QuoteDouble keels sure do suck a lot less. Quote I've said this before but I didn't see it in this thread. "The main difference in a Delta II and a Dactyl is that the Delta II will cover the whole car."

About 25 years ago, the city was about to do something that everyone knew was a bad idia. At the city council meeting, Gary Dupiuis said to them, (and this is an accurate, direct quote), "I want to know which one of you motherfuckers are taking money under the table." That questiong has yet to be answered. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Yeah, remember it well . . . well, sort of well. If you recalled all that from memory, you must have a tremendous brain capacity or... or... Never mind. I don't want to get banned.

Equal and opposite, of course.

I guess very few of us understand the gravity of the situation.

The "Steve Snyder Logbooks" were the only ones I remember when I started in 1970. They came in 150 and 500 jump versions. They had FAR 105 in it. They also had a very excellent explanation of how to spot to include selecting an exit point in order to hit an opening point in order to drift to the target. With Para Commanders and students on cheapos, this was very valuable information. You could tell who had read it and paid attention to it. I put 1,000 jumps in them before I quit logging for a while. (Something I regret to this day) After sequential got really big, people wanted to record ALL the points they did (or tried) on a jump so some one came up with the big log bolk that only held 2 jumpl on a page. I think that the people who sold the little skydiver man stamps are the ones who "pushed" the clunky log books. The idea that the most important handle be on the dominant hand side makes a lot of sence EXCEPT that emergency ripcords have been on the left side since Christ was a corpral. A good idea about 75 years too late. I used to advocate (facetiously) that all the manufacturers put their handles in different places in order to get Darwin back into the sport. -
Quote I'm more concerned about the heroic passenger. He should have just called 911 and waited for authorities to respond and/or tried reasoning with the highly educated fellow he assaulted and stripped. Quote Back in the '70s, when hijackings to unscheduled destinations was becomming rampant, I came up with a plan to thwart the bad guys. When the plane lands, the police/army SWAT/Special Ops go into the plane and kill EVERYBODY. This would motivate the passingers to handle the situation before the plane got to the ground. Yes, this was a very facetious idea at the time. I just couldn't understand why the passingers always acted like sheep. Well, now the bad guys blow the plane up. The bad guys have done the thing to motivate the passingers to do somthing. The passingers on United (92, 97?) had the right idea and will always be heros in my eyes. Quade, thank you so much for that link. I got interested in something else last night and forgot all about it. I've seen almost 40 years worth of these kinds of vidio articles and been part of severel, but this was by far the best reprsentation I've EVER seen. The "60 Minutes" crew didn't try to make it seem clever/crazy and all the guys were far more articulate than the average skydiver getting vidioed. I'm not articulate enough to say anything but, "Oh Man! That was just AWSOME!!!" Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Oh, THAT'S why you're a "TrophyHusband".

First of all a disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been an expert in interpersonal relationships. This guy seems like he's important to you. It's good that you can feel that way about some one. How important are you to this guy? That would seem to be the question. I don't think that there is any "test" you could put him to that would be ethical. All you can do is evaluate his actions. Is he going to use that "cheap air fare" to come see you as often as you will go see him? Is his mother on your side of the channal? Go see her and maybe cheer her up. There may be something you can do to help him with some of that load. If the "Ex" is due in March, he was with her in July/August so that was before you met him. No harm, no foul there. But it seems that they broke up shortly thereafter. That strikes me as a bit "dodgy" if I'm using the term correctly. How many of his friends have you met? How many of yours has he met? All things in life should have a balance. But it's really difficult to judge the balance in these situations. When you were looking for a motorcycle, maybe you saw one that you thought you wanted, But something inside your head said, "This may not be the perfect one for me." You listened to that little voice and wound up with one that fit you. At least you looked really happy in the pictute. Thinking with your head or thinking with your heart. There are many advocate for either method with a lot of good arguments for their point of veww. I don't know which one is best and I don't know that there's a way to do both at the same time. There's a fine line between trust and gullibility. Well, this went on a little too long and got a little too heavy. Go back and read the disclaimer at the beguinning of this post Best of luck and walk through life with your head up and a smile on your face. P.S. How does he feel about you skydiving. When I lived in DeLand, I ate takeout most every night. Maybe 4 nights a week I would go to Won Lee's Chinese Resturant. I tried to convince Seamus (one of the owners) to do some kind of holiday thing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe General Tso's Turkey. Or Turkey Fried Rice. He never did but they were always open on Christmas and Thanksgiving. That was my dinner many a time on those holidays. If you go there, till Seamus Bob said hello. (No, I don't where the name comes from. He just said that his given name would be to hard to pronounce.) I always gave what I called, "THE WARNING" to my students. If you're not careful, you can wind up spending 50% of your time and 75% of your money skydiving." In short, a parachute may cost WAY more than the price tag.

"Mr. Smith..." came on just after "State...". I've seen "Mr. Smith..." maybe 10 or 15 times over the years but this is the first time for "State..." Will Rogers said, "Once a man's elected to public office, he's just not fit for honest work anymore." A personal story: My dad was active in the letter carriers union, the National Association of Letter Carriers and an officer in the local in Jax. Fla. My mon was about the most opinionated person I ever saw. (At least till I came to these forums) Around 1964 there was some bill before Congress that the NALC wanted passed and so we wound up taking a trip to Washington D,C. to see our congressman, the Hon. Charles Bennet. We got into seen him in his office and during the discussion he made a statemnet to the effect od "... a ploititian couldn't vote for that." To which my mother replied, "No, but a statesman would." Mr. Bennetts hand came down hard on the arm of his chair, stood up, thanked my mon and dad for their intrest in these matters and showed us the door. I always had issues with my mon but I admired the way she spoke her mind. As it happened, Mr. Bennett wound up voting for the bill for whatever reason. I mistakenly put this on the Bonfire forum. Maybe I can go delete it there now that I've copied it here. Sorry. All these electrons running around are way too many moving parts for me.

I intend to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail starting in March, 2010

Awesome! Doing something like this should be on everyones "bucket list". I'm sure you've gotten plenty of advise and know what you're doing but I'll throw in something my best friend told me after he and his lady (now his wife) did it about 25 + years ago. Make sure you have TWO pair of good shoes. BOTH already broken in. The first ones will were out before the end. Did this guy work on the "Lord of the Rings, Return of the King" movie? Those BIG chunks of rock looked just like the battle of Minus Tiruth.
