  1. In Dec. of 1969, I had just gotten back from RVN. I went to see "Easy Rider" and this was the short that was shown before the feature. A life changing day in more ways than one.
  2. Dare I say it? Amen! Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?
  3. Guess what... we all are put to death. Such is the consequence for sin in the Christian faith. Sin is sin. Lust is lust..... according to the Bible. Death is the price we pay for being born. No body gets out of here alive. Well, Isaiah and, I think, Methusula did if you believe that compendium of conflicting and inaccurate stories written thousands of years ago by people that were highly racist, sexist, and overall superstitious. 4. That is probably true if you are an academic. But if your are a miserable sinner and hopelessly lost like me. You know what you need to find, and you damn well know it when you find it, irreguardless of how you interpret it. ... I don't have a problem with God. There must have been some Original Force that started this ball rolling 15 billion years ago. My problem is with the people who say that they are the only ones who KNOW how God wants us to live. Fundamentalist Muslims, Fundamentalist Christians, Fundamentalist Jews, they all supposedly pray to the same God but each says they alone are on Gods side and you must do as they do. I wouldn't be supprised if there were Fundamentalist Wicans or Fundamentalist Sun God worshipers out there. How would a Fundamentalist Budaist act? 5. I lthink Alex (Michael J. Fox) did. I think he had an Oedipus thing going on.
  6. The plank we walk is way cooler than those other guys.
  7. Mike, A twin Beech? Where was this happening at? I have a few twin Beech jumps in Ill, but none in Fl and never saw a twin Beech at Z-Hills or Deland (except maybe for meets). Roger, of course Mike is correct. He was the one who was there. '74 was the summer that Gary, Jaybo, Bob Favreu (sp) and some one whose name I can't recall brought Mr. Douglas to DeLand. Himelayan Rope was practicing out of the Beech because that was to be the meet aircraft. I don't know where it came from but it seems like it was what I call a "mid model". It had a door that was round at the top and square at the bottom. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 8. When I started in '70, a "high" jump was 7,200 or 7,500. I started with the Charlotte Skydivers while I was in the Army. When I got back to Jax. Fla. after I got out, I saw some canopies over Herlong Field. Bobby Tyer had a C-172. That was the jump plane for the jumpers in and around Jacksonville for 2 years. I can count 227 jumps out of that 172. Only about half of those were to 7.200". All the rest were only to 5,500. The "high" jumps only had 3 people plus the pilot. I just wanted to "jump out of an airplane." Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 9. Is this theoretical or is some one going to do experimenttation? It would be easy to throw bot water on a dog, but the ape...
  10. Some time in the mid '80s I found myself sittong around with a bunch of other jumpers waiting for a hole in the clouds. We were telling jump stories, "No shit, there I was..." and it occurred to me that I had a lot fewer stories than the jumpers who hadn't been jumping even half as long as I had. Then I realized that most all their stories involved some pushing of the envelope of prudence either in experience or judgement. Then I congratulated myself on my good sence to stay out of those situations (most of the time.) So if you don't have as many jump stories as the next guy, in stead of starting the story with, "No shit, there I was. Going through 1,000 ft. with nothing but a silkworm and a sewing machine." Try, "This might be a lie but I'm not the first one to tell it." Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 12. The can of beans is just an inanimate object. The can of beans is not the stupid thing here. The situation, perhaps. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?
  13. Yeah, let us know how that works out.
  14. Yes, very unsatisfying. I guess my "willing suspension of didbelief" just didn't kick in. How was this alternate reality achived? Was it all in the mind of 2s wife? If so, how were the other real people inserted into this world? A "Matrix" like thing is more believable unless there is some kind of string theory / alternate universe portal and that was never touched on. I watched it, it was well done, but I didn't get the point. Some kind of "Big Brother" thing at Suncore (or was it Sumcor?) The taxi / limo driver, in two seperate realities at the same time. I guess it was over my head but I did enjoy the performances and the way it was done. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. 16. Well, I've always gotten at least a little nervous on the way to altitude... Unless your doing something unusual or a demo, that goes away after about a 1000 jumps! Less for some people! Part of why I enjoy Students so much, I get to relive that feeling! In the period between 100 & 200 jumps, I would imagine how the death report would read. Any thing that I did prior to the jump or gearing up might be a factor. And this was before "Safty Meetings". That apprehension went away when I started useing that "foresight" to make better choices. At least until the "Safty Meeting" era came along. Then it was probably just luck that got me through alive. 17. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE!!! I still tell the story of how you made me look like a hero. And the part about getting your camaras stuck in my center cell always elicits a, "Damn, that must have hurt." Anyway, many more to one of the good guys. 19. We took an M-80, rolled it around in rubber cement, then rolled it around in some BBs, another layer of rubber cement and BBs. Wasn't much left of the mailbox. 20. The metric system. We didn't really "lurn" it in "skool". But in the '70s most skydivers were very familiar with the metric systim. "Do you have a scale I can borrow?" "Ounces or grams?"
  21. I know how many bowls/joints are in a stone
  22. At the '85 World Meet in Mali Lojine, Yugoslavia. I was part of the Air Bears entourage/contingent and we were the first ones to arrive at the site. When the MI-8 helicopters got there the pilots needed some practice/training in flying skydivers so they took us up. The team took a piece off the tailgate and the rest of us, 4 or 5, followed. I went last with Mike Raible because we wanted to run the length of the aircraft and off the tailgate. As I approached the edge, I was getting a veiw of the Adriatic Sea and the coast of Lojine. It was absolutely spectacular. The water was almost as clear as Silver Springs and I could see maybe 50 to 75 feet down through the water. The beach was not at all like Florida beaches with all the sand but very rocky, big rocky, so there was something to see on the bottom. The view "took my breath away". I realized I wasn't breathing and hit myself in the chest and got back to the business of the skydive. It's one of those jumps that I'll always remember for something unrelated to the actual skydive.
