I'd be Bill Gates, And I'd give a lot of money to Bob Nixon.

I've heard it like that, too. But however you spell it, they are just like Muggles because we're the magical people. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?

Oklahoma cops unfamiliar with the purpose of an ambulance
Niki1 replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
This looks like a time when everyone should be given a "time out." If it was an emergency, the ambulance should've had its' lights & siren going. If it wasn't an emergency, then it should've yielded to the OHP vehicle that did have lights & siren on. The OHP officer was on his way to help the county (sherriff's dept?). If that was so important, why would some one's failure to yield become more of an issue? I thought that North Carolina was a third world country but it looks like Oklahoma hires puplic servants right out of grade school. Certainly not a high point in any of these peoples' careers. I think you're right. The difference the Nazi guards and the current prinsoner abuse is several orders of magnitude but you got it right about the chain of command above the guards. They were held accountable then but not now, it seems. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. QuoteIn the first scenario, I'd let poor Carl go to jail. A 90% chance of something catastrophic happening is too high to risk. Like Skyrad said, release him after the cell is brought down. ----------------------------------------------------- Let's change the scenario just a little. Instead of Carl, the guy about to go to prison is FallingOsh. Should the person with the evidence come forward or not? With the "Rule of Unintended Consequences" in mind, I think doing the Right Thing at the moment is the thing to do. Doing a Wrong thing for a Right reason is one of those slippery slope things. These were drawings from photograghs. Sandy Williams did the drawing and I would guess that Norm Kent did the photograghs. Connie Simpson was the passinger. I think the manual was done this way because the drawings reproduced better than phopograghs. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. [ Lawrocket's second bit of advice when operating a motor vehicle: "Only break one law at a time." i.e., if you are carrying 50 kilos of coke, don't do 90 mph. If you're smuggling guns in your trunk, don't do so while driving drunk. if you are gonna let your registration expire, don't drive drunk. Etc.. We used to go by: "If you're going to break big laws, don't break little ones."

Sexism, is it ok when it has positive outcome? Or is it always wrong?
Niki1 replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Are there less attractive women out there as talented or more talented? Probably, but they aren't going to get the endorsements deals. Anna Kournikova is a prime example. It's more marketability than sexism though. Sex sells. Marketability is why Dale Earnhart Jr. gets a lot of endorsment deals, also. -
QuoteGotta love a web site that let's you know right up front what it's ALL about; tax exempt status. /reply] I'm thinking these guys have got a great money making thing going. I'll bet they take a cut or get paid a fee of what the client saves in taxes. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. QuoteMy question is this: Why is the anti-enhanced interrogation technique crowd not up in arms over the shooting over the three Somaili pirates. You can't possibly believe that no good information was obtained from these interrogations that prevented attacks and saved lives. You can't possibly believe that these 2 situations are in any way related. But since I DO believe that NO good info was obtained in this way, I guess you can believe what you want. That's one of the many good things about our country.

So I have been talking to a few old timers.....

Jumping a round, you will liearn that spotting is not just recognizing when the lights turn from red to green. Spotting is a skill that, on the value scale, is right up there with making buggy whips. Putting your head outside the aircraft and looking STRAIGHT down is a learned skill. Determining the Exit point in order to drift to the Opening point in order to have the best chance of landing on the targert is an intellectual skill that you might impress your girlfriend with. Other jumpers will just roll their eyes. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. With that Security piggyback, it has to be early to mid '70s. The pictures look familiar but the memories must be in some of those brain cells that were jetisoned along the way. Steve, you know that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

In the mid 70's when everyone was trying to get smaller and lighter gear, people were gutting cheapos, removing what they considered excess reinforcement tape from Strato Stars. I thought I had the Answer. I took a Navy 26' Conical and pulled the apex down to the skirt, put crown lines on it for ease of packing, cut a triple doghouse in the back for drive and 2 turn slots on each side. It was light and did pack up very small. And had all the drive of a Wind Drift Indicator. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Be careful, Steve. John got a little miffed when Otley pointed out that John was the oldest competitor at the '87 Nationals. John is one the real pioneers in this sport who never got the recognition that he deserved. I guess that John (like a lot of the rest of us) is proof that only the good die young. Muskogee Article - Call for Stories & Pics
Niki1 replied to BIGUN's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Quote80s Air Bears from Deland were fine tuned at a couple of the 80 nationals.... With Tom Pirus, Jack jeff, and Guy Manos +??(you need to talk to Guy in So Florida!) these guys started the fast 4 ways we do today.....and invented the knee turns that create the speed for fast turns and many points. Guy probably was the start of the percision/ big way dives.....i might be wrong on this....but many gathered in OK at Muskogee for this. The '85 Air Bears were Tommy Pirus, John Robbins, Joe Nepute, and Guy Manos with Mike Raible as alternet. They won the Nationals and went to the World Championships in Mali Losine, Yugoslavia and won that. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done.
