  1. I think you will find that the majority of "christians" will NOT be going where they think they are going. Not sure about the "majority" but I agree with you otherwise. We don't know how many people God will save throughout the course of time. However, there are lots and lots who may be getting a surprise. Especially in "Americanized" Christianity. Ours has become very diluted by our culture. That's not to say that everyone isn't negatively affected by their culture to some regard. Everyone brings some baggage to the table when it comes to theology regardless of type/denomination. That said, many in America have forgotten that there's not only a "narrow gate" (Jesus Christ) but also a "narrow way." They claim the title of Christian but live as though God never gave them a law to follow. Often times, you can't "hear what they say because of what they do." Hypocricy on its greatest display...especially on Sunday morning. Not talking about works unto salvation...but evidence of regeneration. If God has changed you...He will make a difference in your life. It's impossible to have an encounter with God and not be changed. For the most part (here), we act as though we (Christians) haven't been changed...and the world is watching...
  2. Nothing new brother... Joseph Smith (Mormonism/Church of Later Day Saints), Edward Miller (7th Day Adventists), Charles Taze Russell (Jehovah's Witnesses), Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Science)... The Christian church will continue on....even after tomorrow. Harold Camping and Family Life Radio may not...but we'll see. He'll have to come up with a new prophesy, though.
  3. Just because I say I'm a skydiver, does that make me a skydiver? Deuteronomy 18:22 - "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." (NASB, emphasis added) The 7th Day Adventists were born out of this kind of mess (e.g. 19th Century Millerism). Eisegetical (inserting meaning into the text) versus exegetical (deriving meaning from the text) interpretation. Numerological, "hidden" meaning junk... Application of this aberrant methodology/theology to eschatological (end times) teaching resulting in heretical cultish organizations. Outside of orthodox Christian teaching.
  4. Please DO NOT include all evangelical Christians in the same category as Harold Camping. Dangerous Airwaves: Harold Camping Refuted and Christ's Church Defended He's not the first (by a long shot)...and won't be the last. There's a definitive way of determining a false prophet (Deuteronomy 18:22)....we'll find that out tomorrow.
  5. Psalm 82: God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”: “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.” Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance. What ? Are you attempting to bolster my point? I'm pretty sure you're not but if you read that Psalm I'm pretty sure it kinda agrees with what I've been sayin'. Oh one more thing.., This King David . The one who wrote most of the Psalms, how do you feel about that guy? Everything I've read pegs him as a bloodthirsty warmonger. I'm not saying that is the case , I just wondered about your opinion of the man generally credited with writing the Psalms you reference in defense of *your blend* of Christianity and your sanity. Peace, Jim B With regard to Psalm 82: God, Satan, and Angels - John MacArthur
  6. You sure about that? The bible is replete with description of the good and the bad, the wheat and the tares, the good fruit and the bad fruit, fig trees among thorns/thistles, the elect and the non-elect...God loved Jacob but hated Esau...God's hatred of the Amalekites...great emphasis throughout the bible seems to be placed on the fact that there are plenty of people who claim to be Christian who are permitted to remain amongst the true believers until "the harvest"...judgment... It's in all the parables in the NT. Are we "all" God's people? Doesn't seem to be the case. Some of the Pharisees were even described as "sons of the devil" and not of God. God in essense...not in person. With God's divine power, the Son emptied himself...stepped down from his throne...became flesh...became "fully" human...took on a new role....experienced "everything" as we would in order to fulfil the law (which we could not)...and pay the penalty for "our" injustice so that we might be set free. So...even though "from our perspective" his suffering wasn't for very long...from God's perspective....it was an eternity...it was an infinite punishment for an infinite crime. He cried tears of blood in the Garden of Gethsemanie. Those weren't because he was afraid of Roman nails or torture. It was because he knew what was in the "cup" he had to drink on our behalf. It was because he knew the payment which had to be made. Because he was fully human...he cried out to the father to take the burden from him because he thought it was too great. However, he did the will of the Father despite this and freely offered himself as the propitiation.
  7. Jim, would you consider yourself to be a good god?
  8. I aim to please. You're welcome!
  9. Dude, are you Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon)?
  10. Wow! Where's the tolerance in that? you can tolerate religious zealots and yet still be happy to see them gone. Come on. You'd be bored to death if you didn't have us to argue with.
  11. Well, that's not the God of the bible. If God hated all those people, he wouldn't have died for them.
  12. What is? The rapture?
  13. [url http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/kw/kids-feedback-mosquito]Why did God create mosquitoes?
  14. Nope. Creeping things included.
  15. I agree. I don't see why a rabbi couldn't just pray over the pig and be done with it. Declare it clean. Dig a pit and roast that sucker. Invite Mohammed. Somebody bring the natty light.
  16. You forgot to mention Mohammed...are you afraid of someone elses imaginary friend also? What!?! You don't like bacon? Infidel!!!
  17. But as the Biblical account has him already out of the tomb at dawn when the ladies arrived isn't it more likely that he was gone during the night of the second day? He may have even left the tomb Friday night or during the day on that Sabbath as no one would approach/ inspect the grave on the Sabbath. Peace, Jim B Who cares?
  18. Wow! Where's the tolerance in that?
  19. Let's see...a cubit......I used to know what a cubit was. "“How long is a cubit?” The answer, however, is not certain because ancient people groups assigned different lengths to the term “cubit” (Hebrew word אמה [ammah]), the primary unit of measure in the Old Testament. The length of a cubit was based on the distance from the elbow to the fingertips, so it varied between different ancient groups of people." How long is a cubit?
  20. Mmm... I loves me some bacon. That's some mighty fine swine!
  21. Panentheism/pantheism... It's still fashioning a "god" or "gods" or something you bow down to and worship (e.g. nature), in your own image and, in doing so, breaking the second commandment and also the first.
  22. Dude...do you actually read stuff before you talk about it?
