  1. I agree. The cops should have begun this threat assessment starting with what was coming over dispatch "may be involved", next, seeing the difference between a confused driver and someone who knows he's caught, next, how calmly and cooperatively the family acted, next, a dog that was not showing aggression. I don't think it's a big deal that the dog died, but that these guys handled the situation so poorly. What if it had been a mentally handicapped kid and he freaked out because his family was being handcuffed and guns pointed at them. This thing with the dog is like training and he failed by a trial by fire. They should get rid of him because of his lack of sound judgement. The family shouldn't go for a law suit, there's no point. They just need to realize that it sucks and if the system works then this guy will be dealt with correctly. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  2. I think I'm more quick to take this report as gospel because everyone has been pulled over, knows their rights, has seen COPS, knows that reporters are well versed on police matters. This is not the case with skydiving. The video of the event was released, the police released their report. This isn't a matter of jumping to conclusions. We know the report doesn't capture what was going through the cop's head as he stood on the side of a drug trafficking highway with dogs running around, but we know it's just about right. I just think the guy was stupid. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    GPS jamming ethics

That's a funny article. It's about how the jammers will thwart attacks yet the sources say, "The question is their effectiveness", and "...effectiveness is questionable." -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. Anyone have a good picture of this. I've seen one before and wanted to get one I could frame. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  6. Before my first jump of the day I sit and go through the entire jump twice, from take off to daisychaining and go through every scenario and thing that I should think of. Then on the rest of the jumps I touch my handles and chest strap and practice pull a couple of times on the way up and one last time before climbout after I get my pin/PC/bridle checked. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    Building antenna?

How about a 30 story parking structure, as thin as possible, Elevator in the center, climbing walls on all four sides. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  8. Yeah, time to start breaking noses when that comes up. Then I'll the cool guy with the unbroken nose. -D "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  9. Freakous, move it to talkback if you're not going to talk about gear. Hey Monkey/everyone, post all of your used gear sites. Here are mine: http://www.aerostore.com/ http://www.cousindave.com/ http://www.skykat.com/ http://www.square1.com/ http://www.actionair.com/ http://www.sunshine-factory.com/ -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. If you're not too cool for 9-cells you can buy my Turbo 185. I'm following Paul's advice and downsizing to something in the 100sf range. That way people will think I'm cool, especially since I only have 100 jumps. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. Was wondering about this too. Heard Wendy comment about PC hesitation and was wondering if a PC without a hackey would be better. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    movie line

I'll go with that. I just threw back: : "But who would want to kill me, sir?" : "Jealous husbands, outraged chefs, humiliated tailors . . . the list is endless." -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    movie line

The line is in reflection of Bond/Casablanca-esque movies. This line, admittedly, would go pretty unnoticed. A more well known line from the movie is: : So, why do they call you "Spear-Chucker" ? : Well...I used to throw the javelin. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    movie line

In what may be a first, I've been stumped with a movie line. "You can't have the duck. You can have the chicken, but you can't have the duck." Meet the Parents? -Doug (Bonus points to whomever knows which movie my signature comes from) "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  15. Hey, don't let a little cold weather scare you away. Just get a pair of neoprene gloves and head on out. The winter is great for AFF because, depending on your DZ, the instructors will be less likely to be distracted with their dual roll as tandem instructors, there will be fewer other AFF jumpers, and the crowd will be mostly the hard-core home DZ jumpers who you will be glad to get to know. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  16. My best friend got busted in our neighbor's front yard by someone walking their dog. It was dark so the guy stood there staring because he couldn't figure out what that mass on the ground was that his dog was barking at. The funny part...they were doing it doggy style. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  17. Well, if by legit you mean not legit then I think I'm OK. Hmm, I suspected as much. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  18. When I switched to XP and tried to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein I got this: I chopped off the first part and just started where errors began to appear. The problem appears to be something related to "open GL". I downloaded a demo version hoping the problem would fix itself, no dice. After talking to an IT friend at work he suggested I download DirectX. Everything I find seems to be development kits and not the plug and chug I'm envisioning. Any advice? Also, I'm searching on Castle Wolfenstein sites for info. THanks, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  19. An observation. I have a bunch of friends who know I jump but always say "too dangerous". That's because all that people here is what comes on entertainment news. I brought our DZ christmas video over to a friend's house and left it for a day or two. Now that they've seen the safe repetition of dives they all are planning to make a jump. Unfortunately I left the video at home when I went home for the holidays so I can't say what the family thought. PEACE, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  20. Yeah, me too. I don't even put my fingers through the loops. I'm having my rigger make a set of toggles with blocks on them. Yeah, my canopy too. Do you know anyone who wants one? Trying to buy a Tri-Hybrid. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  21. Hmm, the nails thing is F'd up. Did you keep them? You should go over there when the parents are home and say that you're doing a project and you only have four nails left. They look like this ____. Would you happen to have any that I could use? Edit: And then when Dad gives you the matching nails you tell him that you actually pulled them out of your tire the morning after you came over and politely asked his daughter to bring the dog in earlier. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  22. That's just bad. Time to blast off to other planet. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  23. Like a hop and pop (extreme example) except w/ head towards ground vs. towards sky while still on the hill? In engineering terms, the normal force has magnitude along the X axis (horizontal) until all mass has reached equilibrium with the wind relative to the launch point. 25. Did my first CRW jump on #39 when our DZ CRW head dawg talked me into jumping with him. I pinned him and just sat there waiting for wraps and entanglements and all the crap that everyone who hasn't done it freaks out about. It didn't happen, and hasn't happened yet. Although, I've only been up to a 5 stack. Now I can't figure out why everyone is so hesitant towards doing it. As for when someone gets into CRW: Talk to a local Dawg, they're always more than enthusiastic about a new person. They'll tell you a bit about what to expect and just about everyone these days who is taking up CRW has this site (Thanks Wendy): http://www.eco.utexas.edu/Staff/Faulkner/skydive/crw.html on their internet favorites. Read through CRW Safety and Training. Hey Freakous, quit being a lame ASS and put on some winter gloves so we can stack it up. I just got my weekend plans cancelled so I'll be there on Sunday. PEACE, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
