It was actually your comment regarding PC hesitation w/ BASE on another thread that made me think of this. I was trying to remember if I'd even seen a hackey on the BASE PC's I've seen only on video. Thanks for the replies. Sounds like all is well in the world of PC's and hackeys. CRW would be the only application for this supposed invention but really, who cares. Has there been any testing on pilot chutes with hackeys attached at the same point as the bridle or in line with the bridle? Speculation would be as follows: 1. The hackey on the bottom creates a small burble within the pilot chute. (But couldn't be that much more than what the body is creating another 8 ft down. 2. Hackeys for anything other than BASE or CRW would have to be off-center; attached at the same point as the bridle, so that no bridle would be exposed to the airstream. Would create a little spin or additional flop in PC trailing behind canopy. 3. May interfere with PC collapse systems. 4. Would cause jumper at terminal to turn or roll if held in hand for too long. 5. If released to CLOSE to body may initially open but then get caught in burble. 6. Could cause bag to not open in line with jumper since PC held at arm's length to side of jumper would already be fully open and once it was released would travel straight up and open pin at an angle creating line twists. 7. More radical spinning and tumbling as main opens (if its hackey is attached at same point as bridle see #2) increasing likelyhood of PC over the nose or entangling with slider. I know the status quo is an effective method so let's leave that point out of the discussion. I think through my brainstorming here I've brought up some points that would prove an off-center mounted hackey an undesirable option. Still, does anyone have any experience with this? Any 'in-line-with-bridle-hackey-at-bottom' PC's available for BASE or CRW rigs? THANKS, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Was wondering today why you can't order posts according to to "views". Not that it matters at all but I just noticed that the two posts with the highest number of views are "sex" and "Ok, this is just wrong". So what does win....sex, or the peculiar? Yeah, I know I could scan all posts but it 2AM, I'm tired, just saw "Rules of Attraction" after a bottle of wine before, female friend sneacked a bottle of wine into the movie, and we're just finished another bottle and are about to crash. So, just rambling and listening to Badly Drawn Boy, 'Another Pearl'. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Councilman is correct, except that for the fun part. Just trying to figure out a characteristic that would affect forward speed. This would actually just correlate to the cell height vs lenth at whatever loading. Volume could be figured out and the pressure could be, let's say, the same experienced at 1:1 loading in flight. But what's the point. Unless you're going to start making canopies using mathematical model, screw it. PEACE, Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yeah, if I remember correctly, that was getting into a bunch of hypotheticals over civil liberties, etc. Then a post about "rogue cops" in Florida, then me posting an entire web site about police abuse. ...so I really have no idea where you got that idea... These are the same discussions I have with the several cops and FBI agents I jump with. Your's is a profession of extremes and it's all going to get talked about. Yup, is pissing me off, I live about two miles from there and use that Home Depot all the time. I coach a lacrosse team right over the hill from there. My roommate and I have been sitting here watching the broadcasting. He's a teacher and coach at that school too. There are hundreds of ways out of there and most of them are small streets. It took the police 30 minutes to get set up and there's no way they could have the man power to block off a radius of that size. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Sounds a bit like going into trees. I haven't been in any wraps or entanglements but this is my line of thinking when doing crw (only about 15 jumps and no big stuff). If it starts to wrap then get your elbows over your handles and your palms on your chin so you can pull lines from around your neck. Keep your feet together so that both feet are wrapped instead of just one. In this postion you'll be able to use both legs instead of just one and can spread your legs apart to make slack or pull the lines within range on your hands, your arms are also in the best position to push lines away from a midsection wrap. Mr. Microlines has probably already chopped so you're left to deal with two canopies around your body. Read the literature from there on. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Damn, this isn't talkback, otherwise I'd just spout about how more people should jump with samurai swords and chop anyone who gets close. Oh well, check out: crw paper and Advanced Canopy Course to read up on how crw-dogs handle wraps and entanglements. Also, do a search on here for the same. I think the biggest thing you'll learn is that a low level collision is something you want to avoid. Low timers like you and I are pulling higher and flying circus tents so we have a little bit more time to think about how we want to enter the pattern. When you open, pay attention to who is above you and who is below you. Look before you turn and don't assume a more experienced jumper will make the right move. It's your ass so make the decisions. I haven't seen that one but here's one of Wendy Faulker in a four stack over the Great Wall of China. Backtrack down the URL to see more. I'm the other guy he jumps with who has the T-ZX. I've only gotten a fast opening once on it and I'm not sure what I did, so oh well. Ranjit, MEaton suggested rolling the nose away from the center cell to each side and don't bury the nose. Also, unroll the tail when you get it in the bag. I have airlocks on my cells, not sure if you do, but that might be part of it. We're actually aquiring a couple of Lightnings as we go. In the meantime, these T-ZX's are a pretty good match with the crw-dog who's coaching us ...as long as we're doing small stuff. Yeah, Lightnings are going fast right now so I might have to purchase new. Hey, anyone want to buy a Turbo-ZX? I'm trying to scrape some money together. I promise soft openings. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm trying to learn about canopies and figure out what aspects create which result. I was tryingt to find the inflated volume of the various canopies but there neither appears to be any info from manufacturers nor anything posted in discussion on this site. I'm guessing that there isn't a ratio that manufacturer's use (area, cell quatity:cell volume) or somethingruther... Why isn't this data available? -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That tank is for the floor drain. He can't run the drain directly to the sewer system because of the inevitibility that some chemicals will get in there. It's still illegal for chemicals to be dumped directly in there. Idealistically, only soapy water will go in there but there will likely be a lot of residue. Oil and petrol refuse has to be properly disposed of. Gas stations have storage tanks for Harry Homeowner to come and dump their oil changes into but this guy would probably keep his in an oil drum and then drive it to a collectin center. http://www.sierratimes.com/whacknstack.htm I think this site might be kind of on the anti-government side but it has a bunch of stories like that. One of my best friends is at the Wash D.C. police academy and I jump with and am friends with quite a few cops and know that they're, for the most part, good guys. Still, cops are humans and humans have power trips. It's just a little bit more fucked up when it's someone who's supposed to be protecting people. -Doug "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
