Obama (finally) declares support for same-sex marriage.
devildog replied to Shotgun's topic in Speakers Corner
Exactly!! Which also means that governments have to make laws to ensure a somewhat healthy population. Left to our own, we tend not to make the best decisions. Speak for yourself. No one tells me what to eat, when to exercise, and I'm in fantastic shape. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -

Triathlon@1.08 WL - To jump or not to jump...
devildog replied to iFlyFast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
.., Just so I'm clear; you're saying Brian recommended you downsize to a 1:1.3 wingloading at 40 jumps? It is less than his reserve... "Smart 190 ft² (1.42 lbs/ft²)" You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -
Triathlon@1.08 WL - To jump or not to jump...
devildog replied to iFlyFast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I jumped at about a .97 from graduating AFF to my A license (#26). From then on I jumped my rig which had a Tri 190 (which is what I'm using now) which puts my W/L @ 1.08. I could tell the difference for certain soon as I jumped it, and for a long time I'd jump in conservative winds until I was comfortable in cross and down wind landings should the need arise (and the needs has arisen for me at least) You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -

Your lack of NT knowledge aside, as well as contemporary Judaism, there is no natural or logical law that says I have to believe all or none. I'm perfectly capable of believing some, and not others. I could easily reject one book (or books) as not cannon, or claim that certain lines were interjected after the fact if I wanted. Or, I could just say for any reason, "Nope, not going to follow that" You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -
*You* don't. But any American who respects the Constitution would. Really Where is marriage listed in the Constitution? this is fucking grade school civics, where we learn about the Supreme Court. You keep digging a deeper hole of nonsense. China beckons! Translated You can provide it It's not specifically mentioned in the constitution, but... http://www.freedomtomarry.org/blog/entry/the-freedom-to-marry-is-a-fundamental-right http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/righttomarry.htm That being said, gay marriage (among many other types) apparently still isn't so cut and dry for this guy either -- specifically his questions 1 & 6 You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

And that's a good thing? I think that's a good question. While public opinion and majority rule can be a good thing, you sometimes need a leader who will do what's right / in the best interest of the many...those aren't always the same thing. Moral courage is important. I agree with you here I would add that what is good for the country will more often than not, be of benefit for most. Even if the people can not see it Benefiting the most is not the same thing as allowing everyone to vote, nor is it what the most may in fact vote for. Then why isn't the WH repealing DOMA? Seems to me he's not being all that courageous... especially in light of his "I'm for it" / "I'm against it!" election year cycle. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -

Actually, the study says no such thing. Straight from the article as well: "So does this mean that religious faith can be undermined with just a little extra mental effort? Not really, said Nicholas Epley, a social psychologist at the University of Chicago who was not involved in the study." You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

As do 14 year old boys. But they still aren't deemed capable of giving informed consent to teachers that want to sleep with them. If you can't address the arguments on the subject, please don't try to derail with poor analogies to beastiality. Animals aren't people. An adult female monkey is certainly capable of giving consent to adult male monkeys. Why wouldn't she be capable of giving consent to a human? And since when does a human need consent to have sex with a monkey, anyway? Monkeys and humans are very close genetically. Are you proposing we have a law that stipulates what percentage of genes we must share? If scientists were able to clone a female neandrathal, would you contend she would be incapable of giving consent to a modern human due to genetic differences? A simple test would be to ask the monkey to complete her own 1040EZ correctly. If she can't even do that then she's ineligible. lol really? Man, tons of marriages are going to be null and void. Hey, if you want to have monkey sex, that's your business. Personally I'd consider it animal abuse. I'm not arguing for monkey sex at all. I'm just amazed that you think there should be requirements like literacy and the ability to do your taxes in order to marry. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Correct me if I am wrong, and maybe West VA is a little different, but can't only democrats vote in the democratic primary? Not entirely. WV has a semi-closed primary system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_election#Types Ah, so, democrats and interdependents then voted. And if there was any whiff of hydrocarbons on those barrels, it becomes a bit more of a concern then an empty water barrel. As a bomb shelter, seems more likely these would be fuel containers to feed the generator. OMG! Someone storing gas for a generator? Quick! Throw him in Gitmo! Since when has storing gasoline been illegal? When has having a generator been illegal? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

There's no sex-ed test when it comes to marriage. Plenty of people would fail and not be allowed to marry who are over 18 if that were the case. Anyway, like I said before, marriage isn't about sex and procreation, so using it as some sort of test against marrying the chimp / dog / cat of your life shouldn't apply either. p.s. people have married animals before, and in recent times too You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Real handgrenades, yes. Inert ones? No way. They're pretty obvious when they are. The bottoms are drilled out and the fuses are removed. Might as well give full rights to shut down, search and seize from any business or home that has one of those gag "Complaint Department: Take a number" grenades sitting on the front desk. So because it will cause some legal reworkings, you would deny the rights of people to marry who the choose? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

it's easy - each individual files a single tax form for themselves regardless of marital status and everybody follows the same tables and rules get the government completely out of it Rehmwa speaks the truth. This all gets a lot easier if the government quits trying to push one particular religion's brand of marriage and just lets people enjoy their freedom of religion. Wasn't that one of the purposes of establishing this country in the first place? Blues, Dave Would you support someones right to have sex with monkeys? No, for several reasons, but most notably because the monkey is unable to give informed consent. Blues, Dave Actually, some primates would certainly be smart enough to be able to give consent You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
