  3. Check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=All_your_base_are_belong_to_us A poor japanese translation of a late 1980's japanese video game into english . Some of the catch phrases took off over the internet several years ago. There are exactly 10 kinds of people who get geek humor... don't sweat it. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

  6. From RC.com: Belay Monkey - Any person recruited for the task of belaying for long periods of time. Similar to Belay Betty; usually a non-climbing female recruited to belay a significant other.*** FYI: I'm registered on RC.com as "Hooknswoop" I need help with my new DZ.com handle: Fingerjam, Betaflash, Onsight, or perhaps A Vue or Allez! 7. I submitted the the photo to NASA. They suggested, based on various luminosity characteristics, the hand was actually pointing at the Corona on the table. Ken Edit: See Photo "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

  9. Oh, for that one I take a look at my legs and tell them that so far, xxx jumps, it hasn't happened and I pack both my parachutes. If it does happen, it's something you'll think about for the rest of your life. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  10. Is there a sponsored DZ.com tour that goes with this title? Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  11. I usually tell them, "It's all about perception of risk. Why do you perceive driving as safer than skydiving? Last year, 2004, for every skydiving fatality there were 2030 auto fatalities nation wide." Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  12. Yes, you are correct. I made an assumption the question was specific for formation skydiving competition, since he didn't ask in general skydiving discussions. Silly me. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  13. From the USPA Competition manual: 5-1.12: AIRCRAFT A. All aircraft must be similar in configuration, interior, and exterior, as determined by the Meet Director, who is responsible for ensuring that all teams receive an equal aircraft rotation within the limits of aircraft availability. B. Aircraft speed, torque, and flap settings at the time of exit, will be determined by Meet Director and the Chief Pilot, except: 1. Twin Otter: 85 to 95 knots (indicated)inclusive. 2. Cessna: 70 to 90 knots (indicated) inclusive. 3. DC-3: 90 to 100 knots (indicated) inclusive. There ya go! Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  14. Except, as tail, you might hear youself saying, " Sorry guys, I screwed that Satellite launch. I just dropped straight down by habit...." Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  15. Did you get the Gravity Pilots DVD and some rigging equipment, too>? Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  16. Guess what's in it. Hint: My bill was $338.94. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  17. Just two ways of getting the same result. I had Brian put them on my risers. Finished product is 2" tip to tip on mini-risers. Fingertrap a length of dacron and zigzag stitch down its length then hot knife to 2" length and attach, centered, on front riser 2" from bottom. Hassles stowing risers? Nope. On my Javelins you can see the slider locks peaking out at the edge of the riser covers. No big deal. Never been any problem. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  18. Interesting. C206 exits are the same as exits from any other aircraft (at least from the tail's POV). Take grips for the first point; put it on the mock-up for the AC you're exiting; launch and present to the relative wind. We've launched a Bundy off a C206. From my experience with C206 exits you have to compensate for the smaller door and having the wing right there. Some exits will have the point outside on the step under the wing with the centers in the door. Formations off the Otter lend themselves to everyone launching directly onto line of flight; point going "up", centers going "out", tail dropping down. Formations off the C206 will come off at a very steep angle because point will naturally be lagging a bit on every launch allowing everyone to get to their own air. In addition, formations tend to come off better if launched 45 degrees down and away from the plane. It gets everyone to their own air a little quicker. Every world level competitor I've spoken with has told me it doesn't matter what you jump out of, Otter, Skyvan, C206/182. It's only the first point. After you enter freefall it doesn't matter what plane you got out of; the RW is all the same. Launch a star or a meeker for every exit and transition to the first point. Have fun.
  19. Ahem Wingloading? Canopy size? I heard about Jay pulling 500' at Summerfest. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  20. I don't find the group response suprising or upseting. I find it reassuring.
  21. My favorite is: I believe in God because the Bible tells me so. It's flawless reasoning. If you have a manifesto that proclaims your existence to others that proves you exist. Natch. I'm still working on my Manifesto. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  22. Yeah, medication and some cognitive therapy may help this guy. I understand. I also understand B.F. Skinner's theories on Behavior modification. http://www.ship.edu/~cgboeree/skinner.html I especially like the quote at the end of the article: All the understanding and forgiveness of this guy's condition aren't helping him. They are re-inforcing bad behavior. If he doesn't choose to change his behavior he may find "social structures" placed upon him that will make those changes easier for him. 23. Thanks for the Redbook survey, Shannon. http://magazines.ivillage.com/redbook/sex/great/articles/0,,284442_557484-1,00.html I googled it to figure out the difference between a Sneak Attack and the Raunchy Romp. I voted for the sneak attack. A good sneak attack can incorporate the raunchy romp and seduction characteristics. The other two on their own often seem far too ridiculous in my tastes. 25. It is important in a staged deployment for the D-bag to be a full line stretch when the canopy comes out of the bag. An analogy I once heard, " Tie a 20' rope to your waist and anchor it to a tree. Walk away from the tree until it stops you, now try running away from the tree as fast as you can until full line stretch. Which one hurt more?" There is more to a good opening than just having the slider up against the stops. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
