  1. One of my highschool friends had a 60's MG he drove to school everyday. Even in the winter. Once, I think we managed to get 4 people (including the driver) into the car with the top up. Then a cop pulled us over. Never did that again. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  2. After flying to a dead stop I'll let an airlocked canopy hover over my head and stare at it with a huge grin. The damned thing just wants to keep flying! Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  3. A 190- 210 sq ft canopy. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

  7. I'm assuming when you are done buying you will have a complete jumpable system and not merely a new parachute or new container. As a bigger guy you will always be jumping a larger canopy, in general. I reccomend buying a new container. It will be built to fit exactly your measurements and all the hardware is new. The harness is part of your reserve system and the best it will ever be is brand new. The container will be sized for whatever size main/reserve you tell the manufacturer you are jumping. The harness will be built to fit you. Don't worry about fitting a future, smaller, canopy in your container. Buy what is correct for your skill level today. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  8. If they stop you: 1. "You're HOW old?!?!?" 2. "Borders?!? What the hell was NAFTA all about? This is free trade...."
  9. Youngest brother and sister were born at home. I cut the cord on both and named one of them.
  10. Chronos was one Guillermo del Toro's early movies. He also directed Blade II and Hellboy. Guillermo has several favorite themes he likes to work into his movies. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  11. I loved it! This movie has everything in it. It even has an Undead Clockwork Nazi Assassin for a henchman and Rasputin. Say that 3 times fast. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  12. IC gives the count on our team. Unless we're launching a bi-pole, I give the count (tail). Climb-out; everyone gets grips and stops moving in the door. shake-shake-shake (pause) Ready-Set-Go! It's always 3 quick shakes. This count eliminated a lot of mis-communication confusion bad exit stuff. Now we attribute a bad exits to free-fliers crowding the door. 13. Yes, you are right. Friday is day 120 on your reserve repack. Saturday is day 121. I didn't check a calendar. I just agreed with Tim. If you wanna jump this weekend, get it packed. Or find a friend's rig and borrow it. Blue Skies! Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  14. This is kind of a non-issue. 1. The nomination/ approval process. GWB nominates a candidate and the Senate judiciary runs the confirmation process with a majority senate vote needed to confirm. 2. Roe v Wade is not law. It up holds the petitioner's claim that a Texas state law violated her first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and 14th amendment rights. In addition to the law being overly vague. For Roe v. Wade to be overturned elected state or national congressmen will have to write a specific law. In thirty years this hasn't happened. Abortion is far to controvertial an issue for either party approach writing a law. The law would have to be very specific and not violate specified articles in the Bill of Rights as established by Roe v. Wade. That just ain't gonna happen in anyone's lifetime. 15. Or to put it another way the 7/09/2004 date on the reserve card is day 1; there is no day zero. Count ahead 120 days which is 17 weeks and 1 day. That date on the calendar is the last day the reserve is in date. On Day 121 the reserve is out of date. Return to rigger for inspection/ repack. Your reserve is in date on Saturday, out of date Sunday. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  16. Remember to follow the TI's break-off plan. I have allowed some highly competent skydivers to lurk their friend's tandem. For some reason he decided at break-off that I was not waving off and he was going to dock on the tandem and wave at the camera. I was very pissed and told him he's not lurking any of my tandems. Staying altitude aware ond following the established plan is VERY important. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  17. Yeah, it bugs me. On the other hand, I don't mind having loud sex in tent city at boogie. I dunno if that's messed up or not. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  18. Put something in their canopy. A nerf football or something inserted in the nose and moved all the way back to the tail. If you pick the right object they may not figure it out until they're putting it in the bag! I've got a really good one but I usually save it to use on jumpers new to the sport. 19. Shouldn't this be a poll? Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  20. Brazil City of Lost Children Anything By Coen Brothers Akira Kurosawa films or anything starring Tshiro Mifune. Paths of Glory and any film by Stanley Kubrick. David Mamet films like House of Games or The Spanish Prisoner. Drugstore Cowboy Wim Wender's films Until The End of The World and The End Of Violence. All of these films are examples of great movies, well written, acted; with great cinematography. Boondock Saints is an example of the opposite. It is a total waste of film and time. 21. Yeah, it will smooth out the top skin. Check out all the swoop photos on this web site. Do a search on "swoop" in the photos. A false topskin would end up conforming to the pressurized wing structure underneath it solving nothing. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  22. Well, you're thinking about it backwards. It's the unloaded ribs that are causing the problem. The solution is crossbracing a smaller parachute. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  23. This is a photo of my 136 that now resides in Florida. I've got a Signature Series 120 in the same colors but a different pattern. Ken "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
  24. I'm not saying there is a direct cause. Just use your best judgement making stows. Like any line stow just don't make the bites so big that they can loop around the next stow. I'm a pretty detail oriented packer and managed to pack a bag lock w/ in-board stows. Make a stow just a little too long, and the bag placement in the container hides all the stows... can't really see if you've actually just packed a bag lock unless you pull the bag out and check... etc, etc. Follow this line of thought, switched back to the standard stow, still don't have problems with line twists. Good, consistent packing techniques have more to do w/ line-twist prevention than anything. If in-board stows help you do that, more power to ya!
  25. I thought it was a good story. I always follow the right/ left lane 'rules'. Usually I pick a speed that allows me to pass most people over a 1 hour drive to the DZ (75-80mph). This tends to allows the really fast drivers to pass and get caught by the troopers. Sometimes I encounter an asshat in the left lane that I've been closing a mile gap for a few minutes in the right lane only to get boxed out as they slowly pace an 18-wheeler. I've been known to intensionally pass those drivers on the right and imeadiately change lanes in front of them maintaining my passing speed. Usually that's all it takes and they move over to the right lane.
