In general, each member of a team has things they can do to improve the team performance. The rules we use for debriefing a skydive: 1. Wait to see the video before making any comments about a skydive. 2. You are only allowed to point out your own mistakes on video. I think most teams have similar rules. Everyone on my team except Inside Center has the A3. IC has a Parasport Z1. photo 1Our point takes good care of his helmet. Basically he doesn't open the visor a lot which keeps it from getting scratches. OC opened his visor a lot and never snugged up the screws, loose visor. It opened once in freefall and was ripped off by the relative wind. Now he wears goggles. photo2 I opened my visor frequently enough to get lots of scratches and was too lazy to replace the lens. I just took it off and also wear goggles. In photo4 my A3 is the blue one with the platinum finish. The Z1 is also a good helmet. You can kind of see in photo 3 that the Z1 has a slightly narrower field of view than the A3. If you take care of your helmet the visor it will last forever. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

PC in tow ? mal, from the incident thread.
Samurai136 replied to NelKel's topic in Safety and Training
Line stretch and the bag opening happen simultaneously, so you wouldn't notice. You would notice on Video in slow motion. If you watch a video of a bag lock mal you'll see that it does, maybe if the PC is not cocked it would not. Please send me a copy of that video. When I cutaway a bag lock the first indication of the malfunction was that I was not being stood up in the harness. Checked over my right shoulder and saw 8' of lines terminating at closed D-bag, Bridal, and Inflated P/C. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
http://www.utilityaircraft.com/costcomparisons.html has a spreadsheet on their website comparing the costs of their PAC750 (turbine) vs the other popular turbines. The break even point on the aircraft, assuming no tandems and average of 200 jumps/ year, you would need 45 skydivers. The tandem end of the operation involves a cost of $10K plus per rig. It helps if you have 2 rigs per instructor and a paid packer; the PAC750 turns fast loads. Start up costs on the tandem business could range $60k to $160k. If you know any private investors (like a lottery winner) who want to drop $2 million starting up a DZ, please have them drop me a line. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

I consider that a personal attack. The progressive had the most detailed article. MSNBC and a few other news outlets streamlined some relevant facts out of the story. If private correspondence of an 80 yr old history professor, and WWII veteran is not above suspect by Homeland Security, what is? "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Baglock didn't stand me up. I don't recall ever seeing a video where someone was stood up before the main came out of the D-bag. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -

I think I need to grow my hair out a little bit and I could get a job as Ewan's stunt double. What do you think? Anyone else resemble someone famous? "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Unfortunately it is possible to cheat. Complete a puzzle, print it out and then keep 'playing' that puzzle. I played the same puzzle 4 times. I took me 1:45 to do the data entry. Maybe I need to practice. Best raw time so far is 11:29; but I'm a little distracted watching CSI. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Just got my utility bill for December (Nov 28th thru Dec 29th). I ended up using 32ccf of natural gas for a cost of $33.04 plus their service charges and taxes $16.16. Electricity use was the same. Grand total utility bill for December, $77. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

I'm trying to figure out if this thread is drifting in the "I hate welfare mothers" direction. I think spending money on welfare and education is a better use of tax dollars than the $2 million per cruise missle or buying 370 F22 Raptor's thru FY 2009 at a cost of $170 million per plane. 2-out is not a malfunction. Pulling the cut-away does nothing. The 3-rings do not release until the risers are loaded. Conventional wisdom on 2-out is to not cut-away if the canopies are flying well together because releasing the main in this situation risks fouling the reserve. It seems to me that cutting away first in a PC-in-tow runs the same risk because the main will not be released until it is partially inflated. I agree with Ron, stop the skydive. Getting a good parachute over your head is your first priority. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -

CRW basics course for non-CRW jumpers?

Should Canopy Coaching be #1 route to take to not Femur?
Samurai136 replied to KillerKimmy's topic in Safety and Training
Unfortunately it's difficult to define too radical of a turn until you've exceeded that threashold. How would you teach that? The USPA advice from incident reports conveys the most accurate information. It's true for every skydiver independent of skill level, canopy type, degree of turn and altitude. "All turns must be completed with enough altitude for the canopy to return to straight and level flight for the landing flare." "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
Uh, didn't visually check for aircraft before exit I guess. Did ATC inform the pilot there was traffic? Did the Pilot tell the skydivers? It's always nice to know. Strange thing is, once the jumper was oriented to see the ground the plane is dead center of the image. It was the first thing I noticed. sigh "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

What's your favorite song for a skydiving video?
Samurai136 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in The Bonfire
Over used music (please retire this junk) Tim McGraw Live Like You Were Dying "I went sky diving... I went Rocky Mountain climbing..." Pink Floyd Learning to Fly I'm never letting the old hippy edit videos ever again... No Doubt Just a Girl My personal favorite is nearly any Daft Punk or basement jaxx song. Do Your Thing is particularly good. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
Nere's my contribution. It's an old Sifl and Olly bit with Naruto for the animation. http://www.youtube.com/w/Naruto---Ninja-Of-The-Night?v=TY1FBxF1PkY&feature=Favorites&page=2&t=t&f=b Ninja's are Cool. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

How much Altitude do you loose on a 90, and 180 turn?
Samurai136 replied to Viking's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yeah, I'm jumping a Sam 120 signature series loaded 1.5-1.6 and 500'+ agl is generally where I initiate a 180 riser turn. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
