More tax cuts with cost us billions in the long run!
Samurai136 replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
You are manufacturing your argument out of whole cloth. Please apply some better analytical skills and use some true facts. The federal budget is not the president's budget. The president submits a proposal to congress who may approve his budget or ignore it and write their own. The sale of the island in any situation is an insignificant dollar value compared to the total dollar value of a proposed surplus. If you read the link to Clinton's budget proposal you would see that he does not add the sale to the potential budget surplus. He mentions the proposed surplus does not include the mandateded future sale of the island. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -

Check your facts. The sale was mentioned as part of a potential budgetary surplus of $17 billion. Other sources in President Clinton's proposed budget to congress estimated the future surplus as a $45 billion deficit. During that period the OMB Budget ranged from $1.560 to $1.844 trillon dollars. The OMB value of the island was $0.0003 trillion dollars. It sold for $1. Your argument is moot. To use one of your analogies; If you were selling a $150,000 house in a depressed economy and sold it for $30,000 wouldn't you try and claim that as a loss?!? -

Hey, let's add Governor's Island to "the list". A quick google search reveals that although The Congressional Budget Office mandated the sale to be at fair market value of $300 million it in fact was sold back to the State of New York for $1 in 2003. So it could be argued that G.W. approved a nearly $300 million dollar loss... Way to go Dubaya! I don't know how significantly $1 would affect any government surplus, probably not a whole lot. More tax cuts with cost us billions in the long run!
Samurai136 replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
The surplus they are talking about is the Social Security Surplus. The baby boomers have been paying into it for...40 years. This money is separate from the governments revenue from taxation. Depending on the political spin, politicians talk about the surplus for their own political ends. The annual deficit is the money the government spends in excess of it's revenue from taxation. The US Debt is the sum total of annual deficits owed by US gov't to various world banks. The fact is that Clinton managed to get Congress to budget in a fashion that significantly reduced deficit spending and put the US gov't on track to paying off the US Debt. W. Bush has reversed this trend. These facts are from the the US Gov't OMB and are not contested. Most of the deficit spending under the W. Bush administration can be attributed to the the cost of the war in Iraq. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -

John, don't pick on him. pj's semantic and Ad hominem arguments aside, I think he's just ignorant of the facts and may be unaware that the U.S. National Debt has gone up every year. If pj had read a graph like this attachment it would have been clearer. It appears pj understands the basic concepts but is unaware of the specific facts. When Regan took office U.S Debt was $0.789 trillion when he left office the Debt had risen to $3.000 trillion. Today debt is a little over $8.2 trillion. The Bush administrations had a lot to do with that. Although most people knew the budget surplus Clinton was claiming was not "real" it's ironic that Bush used that accounting trick to justify huge tax cuts and increased deficit spending from Clinton levels. ...shouldn't look... or throw another piece of wood on the bonfire... Sunpath's owners manual for the Javelin does not list the RSL on the parts list even though they claim it is standard with every Javelin. If for some reason they shipped a new H/C and did not include an RSL would you conclude you were required to have the lanyard to pack the rig? Why, it's not on the parts list? Rob, it's not the People's Judan Front for the Liberation of Palestine it's the Judean Front for the People's Liberation of Palestine. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Ironic that you would choose that example. I don't believe it is an aspersion, per se. It appears to be a point of advise that engaging in that particular conversation may be a waste of time. The second phrase is a simile that enhances the meaning of the first phrase. If you interpret it as an aspersion on your intellect, you did that work on your own. Little lost on this one. I counted 15 non-blonde images on their web site and only 2 blondes. Over all their web site seems to represent a very diverse spectrum of models. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
Samurai136 replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The USPA BSR's are minimum saftey requirements. There's nothing to prevent each dropzone from developing their own higher levels of safety. I have never had a problem with going on a weather hold at any DZ. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air; than in the air wishing you were on the ground. -
That could be difficult. I'm guessing most of those deleted posts ended up in the Black Hole AKA the Recycle Bin. I did find a few older interesting posts. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
Samurai136 replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
USPA SIM 2-1 F. WINDS (S) Maximum ground winds 1. For all solo students a. 14 mph for ram-air canopies b. 10 mph for round reserves 2. For licensed skydivers are unlimited Generally speaking most weather holds are initiated when there are not enough skydivers willing to jump in present wind/ weather conditions. -

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060205/ap_on_re_us/gay_bar_shooting http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11146480/ Apparently he has a myspace account under the user ID of Jake Jekyll. Gee... the front page has a photo of him in his ICP (Insane Clown Posse) make-up. The little Juggalo even specifies his murder weapon as a Hatchet. Inspired by the music. I'm certain there are a few women on DZ.com (maybe even a guy or two) who would be willing to provide a private assement for you. Just request a PM and see which women respond. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
The lower control line is the length from the cat's eye to the toggle. The cat's eye is the loop in the brakeline where you set the brakes. Upper control line is the length from the cat's eye to the canopy. If you insert a pen through both cat's eyes, the upper control line lengths should be identical. If the lower control lines ( cat's eye to toggle) are not the same length, adjusting the brake setting is all that's needed. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken
