  1. Here: "Maybe it will be disproven. Either way, similarly guilty parties will realize they may well face consequences if they recklessly endanger the rest of us. I don't think making the skies safer for All is a bad thing." You had forgotten the rest of that quote. Don't hide behind the mud-slinging excuse. I specifically worded that to show it may or may not be the case in this incident.
  2. "I saw an excellent example of how to report something not too long ago. A question came up that Ian Drennan had some information about. He chimed in, told everybody that there was an investigation going on and that he didn't want to comment or encourage speculation until it was complete. Later when he had all of the pieces of the puzzle he came back and discussed what the investigation turned up. I thought that was so classy and well done." Sounds good. I haven't seen that happen often, though. More often, I think fear of litigation or ridicule keeps mouths shut, indefinitely. There's got to be a better way to get the knowledge out there from hard-won lessons.
  3. "The vast majority of threads I've read in the incidents forum are garbage. Heavy on speculation, heavy on absolute statements, and hilariously dysfunctional blame gaming." Dunno. I've certainly seen that behavior. I've also seen the Mods stop that garbage on more of the threads. Then, the facts have been hashed out. Some of what's been established on threads like that might be of little worth to jumpers w/more experience. I've derived a lot of benefit from reading the incident forums, though. Perhaps we can start going over hypothetical incidents? Take incidents from years ago, & change all identifying aspects of it. Get the lessons out there that way. Does that sound better? Everyone running for cover for fear of litigation, does no one any good.
  4. "Do you really want skydivers to start suing other skydivers? Or do you want to make it easier for anyone to sue DZ operators?" No. That's not my intent. I do want to be able to fly my pattern in peace, w/o getting taken out by some Sky God wannabe . The facts on this incident aren't in, yet. It sounds like someone strafed through the regular pattern, & took someone else out. Maybe that will come to light in this case. Maybe it will be disproven. Either way, similarly guilty parties will realize they may well face consequences if they recklessly endanger the rest of us. I don't think making the skies safer for All is a bad thing.
  5. "Reporting an incident that may have legal repercussions for one or more parties is potentially causing someone to suffer unduly because of misinformation." Having to face consequences for being negligent? What a concept...
  6. Not reporting an incident is potentially allowing others to suffer the same fate. That's not how you give back to the sport. Just saying...
  7. I would've felt horrible if you did ending up breaking both wrists in the future, & I hadn't said anything. That's why I posted that. Some states make wrist guards mandatory for inline skaters for the same reason. Too many people were ending up in the ERs w/broken wrists from catching their falls. I'm happy as Hell that you've found a way to make things work, Pookie .
  8. Oh shit. That's a recipe for bilateral broken wrists...
  9. "Where do ya think Packers come from?! " !! You might not want to use any of them for a while. Not after that crack .
  10. Hi Dan, Why reinvent the Wheel? You can buy an Optima w/the LED for your goggles: http://www.chutingstar.com/gear/optima-ii-346
  11. "toward the end of the skydive the weight will hit the ground 2500' below and the slip-knot will loosen...when you NO LONGER hear the screaming, ya know it's time to pull." Umm......Jim? What if the line cuts/rips his Balls off, first ???
  12. That jumper was young, & didn't get the rider ($180) to cover his month long vacation trip. He broke his back, & had >$200K in med bills in just the first month. The facts were given on this site. I think it was last year.
  13. You thought wrong. That kid racked up $200K+ in the first month. The family had to beg a med flight to get him back to Canada. Where his treatments would be covered by Canada's system. He had neglected to buy a $180 rider to cover him while in the US.
  14. "Buy Health Insurance..." Sorry. Not trying to be facetious. Last year, a young Canadian came down for a month long stay. He had overlooked health insurance differences down here. He got severely injured, & incurred $200K+ in medical bills in just the first month of treatments...
  15. "Canadian moved to the US, what do I need to do?" Buy Health Insurance...
  16. FWIW. I bought Sony's latest Vegas suite a few months back. Sony offered a $50 rebate. I've since had to argue w/the company handling the rebate. I'm still trying to get the cash they owe me. Oh, & as for the Software? It totally screwed up my PC& wouldn't run. Even the system restore couldn't fix all the problems it caused. That Software is now a useless paperweight... Wanna buy a Vegas suite? I'll give ya a real good price ...
  17. Why the surprise, the gun lobby has rendered the gun laws useless. The clear solution is for the NRA to pay to put an armed guard on every fire truck. What a useless reply... Such a wonder I rarely ever post in this forum. Aren't you supposed to be a Phd or something? I'd expect a better retort from someone of your education level. Rant on. You'll get nowhere. It's the toothless gun laws that are useless, courtesy of the loopholes demanded by the gun lobby. Define Toothless. Done already - read the threads. OK, I just skimmed through some of it. Looks like you're ignoring reality again. Others have explained it to you, already. You do what you want to. Even run your mouth some more. It doesn't matter, & won't change a thing. Carry on, carrying on...

  20. You're the one that took a swipe at me first, Doug. The only inflammatory words I used, were my noticing that YOU called Trunk a liar... Look in the mirror. You've no high ground to claim. I haven't blocked all Mods, only you & BillVon. You both have caused that. My other observations in that deleted reply also still stand. It's now obvious I struck a nerve or two. I expected better from you, Doug. I stand corrected... The OP has the threads & Trunk's site to refer to, now. He'll make up his own mind.
  21. I just saw this on the wire. This is disgusting... So, a former convict who was released after murdering a family member. Those gun laws sure kept that bad guy from getting guns, huh???
  22. I never said I was an expert camera guy like yourself, Doug. I merely let him know of relevant opinions I've seen here. The H2 vs. H3 opinion was also your own, btw. I cited the thread for the OP to find. Ditto w/Trunk's experiences. The OP can read those for himself, too. Trunk says he never opened the camera up... Are you calling him a Liar? Not that it really matters here, but I do now own one of these cameras. I picked up a new Hero2 @almost half the price of an H3 silver. We all know you've a lot more experience w/photography than many of us. That doesn't negate the experiences & opinions of others. For someone w/no vested interest in Sony's new camera. You do seem pretty quick on the draw defending it. I had high hopes for the new Sony. I've since read enough problematic posts from those who know far more than me, to give me pause. I voted w/my wallet. The OP is free to do the same.
  23. Greetings, Sebastian. Your English is fine. I'm on small device that won't cut N paste. There's a recent, lengthy thread here on Sony's new action camera. It promised to be awesome, but isn't. Check out Trunk's site for his experiences w/the thing. After months of frustration, he now owns a $300 paperweight... You can save a lot of money by buying a Hero2, instead of the H3 Silver. The Cameras are almost identical in video/pic quality.
