1. I'm astounded that any college students can afford skydiving, especially enough of them to form a club. Wow. Good for you if you can make it work! College loans... More like Daddy's credit card...
2. Sue the School for religious discrimination. That'll loosen up those Assholes ...
3. Don Quixote was a lovable, honorable character. That nasty Sack in Longmont, isn't. It's not sad at all. It's poetic justice for someone like Kim to keep batting her head against the wall...
4. I turn mine off at the end of the day. I get a full season out of a set of batteries. Longer than that if I don't jump in the Winter. The cold up north will kill them, faster.

spin control

I'm not an Instructor, but... I was taught this technique for breaking a spin. I had a big problem w/spins during AFF. If I couldn't break a spin in a few seconds. I was taught to ball myself up. Then, bang out a new, strong arch. I was also taught the Five Second Rule. I only needed to use this technique once, but it worked like a charm. Nasty Spin on my third solo dive. Was getting worse, fast. Was counting to five seconds. At three seconds, I tried balling up as a last ditch effort. It instantly broke the spin. Though, it left me upside down, momentarily. As I was about to have to pitch my PC during a very fast spin (& knew the messy deployment that would follow). I was very grateful to have this tool to use. W/it, I no longer feared losing control in free fall.
6. "You know you're a skydiver when...." When you're lying in the MRI Machine, in pain, already plotting your return to the (sometimes un)Friendly Skies ...
7. "but I wouldn't like to stop hearing my audible." My Optima2 is mounted w/the sound hole facing away from my ear, & only set to half volume. I still hear it loud & clear w/-32dB earplugs.
8. "I do know how loud it gets skydiving, but if you can jump without earplugs, then taking them out before you exit shouldn't make any difference." OK, You do what you want. It's nice & quiet in the house, right now. I'm gonna relax, & listen to the ever-present ringing in my ears....
9. Your Ears equalize through the Eustachian Tubes. Google it. These Airplanes must seal the outer part of the ear canal. While the wearer keeps the mouth shut to minimize the Eustachian Tubes changing the other side of the tympanic membrane (eardrum). Regular Earplugs won't do diddly for pressure problems. They only mitigate loud noises. Are you the poster who said you'd remove your earplugs before exiting the plane? Bad idea. The wind noise in Free Fall hits 130 decibels. That's enough to do damage over time.
10. I'd never heard of those Earplanes, before. Jet airliners are pressurized to around 6,000 feet. We jump from 13,500 feet, & fall a lot faster than a 747... Those Earplanes couldn't possibly cope w/that. Even if they could. If one leaked just a little. You'd be in agony. Glad you're going to talk to your Ear/Nose/Throat Doctor about this. My Ears don't equalize well. I struggled quite a bit w/that during my student jumps. My Ears eventually got better at equalizing. I still need decongestants during allergy season, though. Good Luck w/this. I hope you eventually get to jump.
11. "I will be wearing earplugs and figure I can either turn the radio up, or once under canopy I can always pull them out if I can fit a hand under the helmet." I wear a Benny. You can simply reach an index finger up inside the helmet, & flick an earplug out. The ear pocket of the helmet will keep the earplug from being lost. Understanding the spotty, static-laden student radios? That varies greatly, with or without earplugs .
12. Hi, Your English is perfectly understandable. I wasn't able to follow that link. Sounds like you had a Myringotomy. It's unclear from what you've written. You speak of pressure changes, but then mention earplugs. Earplugs help w/loud noises, not pressure changes. If you're sensitive to the slight pressure changes of a pressurized aircraft. Free fall pressure changes will surely cause you loads of pain. If your Ears can't equalize pressure fast enough. You'll rupture the Eardrum. Intense pain, vertigo, & nausea will be the results... Sorry, but you should definitely talk to your Doctor before jumping. Best of Luck.
13. This is the best adaptation of that technology that I'm aware of. It's interesting, & great for MC racing. Don't see the benefit for this sport, though. Not-for-nothing, but $2500 will buy a whole lot of canopy coaching. Wear what you will. Tumble across the ground enough times, & you will get hurt. 14. Here: http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/elastic-keepers-3369 Just be careful how much excess strap you stuff down into the pockets. Too much, & you'll accur8ly being shooting blanks ...
15. +1+1... I too have Tinnitis. It sucks. You don't want it. There are older threads about wearing earplugs while jumping. Do a search for them, OP. Lots of good info, there. I posted a link in one of them to an animation. It shows how our ears equalize pressures. Earplugs don't cause any problems w/that. Turbine Plane engines are LOUD. Freefall noise levels are LOUD. Our sport exposes us to levels well above OSHA's maximum acceptable exposure limits. You only get one set of ears. Wear Earplugs. FWIW. I wear these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00362CNMM/ref=aw_d_pd_industrial They're very comfy. Fit in my smallish ear canals, & provide a 32dB noise reduction.
16. I don't know you from Adam, Jakee. If you can't see the problem? You're either dense, or disingenuous. Take your pick. I'm not going to waste anymore time on this one.
17. Which one did he break? Try to pay attention, Jakee. It's right there in the original post.
18. I remember chatting w/the guy when this happened, via PM. He'd said he really couldn't go into specifics because the lawyers were hashing it out. I don't recall his handle. I do remember that there were far more rescue guys there, than needed. Why should he be forced to pay for their slow day/training exercise? A student ended up stuck in a tree about 70' up, three years ago. I watched the ONE GUY the DZO had called, rescue him. He simply climbed the tree in a harness, secured the student w/a rope, & cut away the treed main. A few of us then lowered the guy to go make his beer run. Problem solved...
19. [I]"Oh, if you only knew!! " I do. That's why I rarely bother checking in, anymore....
20. [I]"You're new here aren't you? " The rules are the rules. To be followed by most, & flagrantly ignored by others.... Good thing we've got Mods to keep everyone honest, huh?? No, nothing new here.
21. I wonder if the lawyer of this incident's Rescuee was able to get the bogus bill quashed?
22. Hi Allen, Welcome. Where the Hell is Wisconsin???
