  1. I think the lowest model with DV in is the HC 20 series. I specifically shose the HC series over the PC for the smaller form factor, they are slightly thinner and lower. This allowed me to sidemount the camera for SL dispatching, following students, FF and 1st person stuff. I originally had a HC 30 as it was the lowest spec model with Digital/Analogue input and output. I then upgraded to the HC40 as it has a better sensor, and I have now upgraded to a HD1 (woo hoo). I believe the newer PC and for that matter HC models require you to use a base staion to allow firewire use. Whilst this isnt a major drawback it does make it difficult to share footage on the fly. What would you have done had your friend gone in, the combinations of things that could have gone wrong are mindbogling. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  6. Hi Kai Hows things out in Germany. Can you say hi to Bish for me, I hope he is enjoying being a civilian. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  7. I put over 1000 jumps on a Janathon 150, I even spoke to Brian and sent the canopy back to him to get relined. I can honestly say that it was a great canopy, the only problem I had with it was that I would get end cell closure almost every jump, and I was loading it @ 1.7 ish. Not too many of them in the UK, are you looking at buying one? If so let me know what its like it may be my old one. I now jump a Stiletto 150 and found the transition very easy as both canopies have very similar flight characteristics. My advice would be to go for a Stiletto in the same size as the Jonathan you may be looking at. This is for no other reason than it is easier to get Stiletto's maintained i.e new line sets. If you do decide to go for the Jonathan the chances are its gonna need a new line set, drop Brian an email and I am sure he will be able to sort it out. 12. I have certainly been on the wrong side of DZ employees, and I have been the DZ employee who has been less than courteous, although I do make a point of appologising should it happen. I however understand that the people who work at the DZ's I jump or work at are not doing it for any other reason than their love of the sport and their desire to be part of the club they work at. At Netheravon I get paid £39 for taking a tandem student, £50 for flying camera that is per jump, on a good weekend I can walk away from reception with £600 in my rocket. The ladies who run manifest, reception, coordinate tandems, aff, SL students etc get paid that a day (£30 not £600). Yes they get free jumps, but they dont make more than 1 or 2 a weekend, and they tend to get free brews and scoff when they are working, but on the whole its not a fiscal descicion to do the important job they do. I think we all agree that they are the backbone of the DZ and although they should do the job professionally and without reproach, occasionally they let the fascade slip. You were treated poorly and exercised your right to take your business else where, good for you. I hope you dont experience simmilar rudeness at other DZ's. BTW I live in the UK so poor service is a national sport over here It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  13. It certainly has no impact on the quality of my life. This is a thread about you being pissed at the way YOU were treated by the manifester (badly it seems) and how you threw your teddy in the corner and walked of in a huff (like a spoilt child who didnt get their way) and wanted those on DZ.com who could be bothered to read your post to know. Just out of interest do you write a letter to MacDonalds or (insert fast food outlet of choice) and to the body governing said industry every time you get bad service??? It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  14. You know thats exactly the same excuse I used when my ex wife caught me It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  15. Am I the only one concerned that he is sat at his PC at least semi naked???? It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  16. Well done. Just one quick question? Wouldnt becoming a Super Spy require a modicum of secrecy? Surely now you have broadcast to the world (ish) that you are going to be a Super Spy, your value as one has now been diminished? Perhaps Ill offer your identity to Dr Evil for ONE MILLION POUNDS BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  17. I spent the best part of 5 years diaspatching student almost every day and never had a problem. Tha said my camera is mounted on the left and as such is protected somewhat by my fat heed. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  18. HUH?!? I thought I was buying lift tickets to altitude. So, in this scenario, you would still be willing to let the guy jump from your plane even though he was breaking your rules (not USPA rules)? What is the point in having the rule? I am not gonna stop someone jumping because they make a mistake once, if he continued to break the rules then thats different. Its called benefit of the doubt. Like letting it slide the first time a manifetser bites your head off, coz they may be having a bad day. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  19. My wife and I seperated just over a year ago. She had moved back to the UK with the kids (10,7,1 at the time) and I had stayed in Germany until I was due to be posted back to the UK 2 mopnths later. Whilst we were seperated I had come to the decision that we should seperate permanently and that whilst I was returning to the UK, I would not be moving in to the family home. My wife wanted to tell the children what was happening, as my daughter the eldest knew something was up and was asking questions. I asked her not to say anything till I returned as I wanted us to tell them together. Unfortunately it became harder for her, and we decided that she should tell the kids. I remember to this day the most distressing phone call I have ever had, when my children rang me wanting to know why I didnt love their mummy anymore, what had they done wrong, and what could they do to make me stay at home. There were alot of tears on both ends of the phone. I can honestly say that the temptation to stay with my wife just because I didnt want to hurt my children was very powerful, but I knew that it was not the right thing to do. My guilt and pain was relieved somewhat the very next day when I rang the kids when they got home from school. The oldest two were acting as if nothing had happened, they seemed happy and had accepted what the decision I had made. A year later and although things between my wife and I deteriorated and are no longer on the same amicable terms we were initially, the kids have adjusted realy well. The oldest two are in the top of there class, they are held in high regard by their teachers. My eldest son does have some behavioural issue which I think are more to do with his age rather than his situation, and my daughter is now at 11 nearing those difficult teenage years. I see my kids every other weekend, but they know that they are welcome at any time. My daughter has already stayed with me on one of the off weekends, and my son has asked if he can stay this coming off weekend. Every second weekend my heart breaks as I drop them at their mum's, I have had to stop at the side of the road more than once, but I know that they have a much better enviorenmet now that their parents are not arguing all the time. I get two days with them every fortnight and I make them count. Whatever happens between you and their father, dont let it impact on them unless there are issues there. Im sure there are times that my ex wife just wanted to punch me in the face when she saw me, but so far she hasn't. In short, your kids will cope and adapt, they are remarkably resillient and mine continue to amaze me every time I see them. The people who will have a harder time coping are you and their father. I hope all goes well, and im just a PM away if you want to chat. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  20. You would not refund his "UNUSED" tickets???? I think that stinks. And I don't care what the reason is if you didn't deliver the product he purchased (bad weather, slow jump day, disagreement on policy, poor service, no one to jump with, you just don't like that jumper and want him off your property) other than that, I like your post, but that's pretty huge. I have a hard time believing that you have that policy. OK once more for the hard of thinking. If he has broken rules that he WAS informed about, and because he was repremanded for breaking the rules that he WAS informed of but doesnt agree with, HE decides not to jump again, no refund. I am still willing to provide him the service, He was aware of the terms and conditions before he paid for the service, but he has chosen not to use it. For Example I buy membership to a gym, the rules state that I must wear shorts when using the steam room. I go in the steam room without shorts, a complaint is made, I am told that I must wear shorts in the steam room. I decide that I dont like the way I was spoken to, and I dont want to wear shorts in the steam room, and that I no longer want to use the gym. Am I entitled to a refund??? Not a chance. If he has broken rules that he WAS NOT informed about and because he was repremanded for breaking the rules that he WAS NOT informed of and doesnt agree with those rules, HE decides not to jump again he should get a refund. I am still willing to provide him the service, but I failed to lay down the complete terms and conditions, which had he know them initially would have changed his decision to jump here. For Example I buy membership to a gym, there are no rules concerning standards of dress when using the steam room. I go in the steam room without shorts, a complaint is made, I am told that I must wear shorts in the steam room. I decide that I dont like the way I was spoken to and that because I do not wish to wear shorts in the steam room I no longer want to use the gym. Am I entitled to a refund??? Definately. 23. Frank did you not realise I am a civvy now? Thought the long hair and sidies would have given it away. I unfortunately only get paid for a 40 hour week now, unlike you squaddies It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  24. Your initial post says nothing about this. You should have spoken to the management about her attitude. Thats why I made no comment I would say that it is a safety related argument. I dont run a DZ, I mearly said if I did. I do however occasionally act as CCI (S&TA) at Netheravon, one of the biggest and busiest DZ's in the UK. Please come jump here should you ever come to the UK, all our rules are on the form you sign when you become a member the club. I'll be in Deland last week March first week April, the first beer is on me It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  25. To clarify. It seems from his initial post that after deploying lower than allowed at the DZ he was reprimanded by the manifester. Had the rule been posted and he had been made aware of it then if he chose not to jump I would not refund his tickets. As it turns out the rules do not seem to be posted, therefore I do agree that in this case he is entitled to a refund. However I would argue that an experienced jumper you would want to know something like that before you jumped, along with landing pattern, landing area etc. etc. I agree the attitude displayed by the manifester was unacceptable. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
