  1. Dude Its not a very funny joke. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  2. Sorry but I dont find that very funny. Perhaps they could do something similar on New York and belittle the tragic loss of life there. Ironic that the scene of America's worst terrorist atrocity is one of the largest supporters of a terrorist organisation respsonsible for many deaths in Northern Ireland and the UK. 3. Then invest that money in quality training, specifically canopy coaching and FS/FF. Why spend all that money on a new set of kit when you will want to change it soon enough. You havent stated what canopy you intend to buy, but I am assuming you will get something comensurate with your skill level, possibly a Sillouette, Saphire, Spectre or something similar. You will find that you will want to upgrade your canopy very quickly, possibly downsizing as you go along. Brand new kit reduces your ability to do this, and can even cause you to make unwise decisions, such as choosing a smaller higher performance canopy than is suitable. There is plenty of second hand kit on the market that is fine for the transition phase from novice/intermediate to experienced canopy pilot. You will also find that money spent on good quality canopy coaching could reduce this time frame, resulting in you buying a set of kit that is suited to you sooner and therefore likely to be useful for much longer. My canopy progresion was as follows:- SL/FF Manta 50 jumps PD 210 30 jumps PD 190 20 jumps Sabre 170 50 Jumps Jonathan 150 800 jumps Stiletto 150 400 Jumps I also attended the Perris Perfomance Canopy school last year at the advanced level, something I wish had been about when I started jumping. That may have prevented me risering myself into the ground and busting my ankle causing a 5 month delay between jump number 599 and 600. These are just my thoughts and you should get advice from the instructors at your DZ, although I would be wary of the advice given by anyonme trying to sell you kit Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

    San Diego

I was in Elsinore in Jan and we took time off to go to SD. Sights to see Mission Beach, LaJoya, Sea World Bars to visit Any where in the Gas Lamp, in particular Dicks Last Resort Moose McGuilligudys, and the two Irish Bars opposite (cant remember the names but the Guiness is the best I have had outside of Ireland) Freds Mexican Resturant (next door to Mooses) an amazing Tequila Bar and the home of the $150 Tequila (not worth $150 but you gotta do one aint ya) The Coaster Saloon in Mission Beach for steak and egg breakfast. Places to stay The Hotel Circle good cheap accomodation only a $10 cab fair from downtown SD. If you are millitary take a trip to the NEX on 32nd street very good shopping. Also Vijas is a good outlet mall about 45 min outside of SD on the way to El Centro. Have fun and if you go into Freds let me know if my plaque is on the wall ;-) Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  5. There is a fair bit to do at RAPA other than skydiving. We are not far from Hanover, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and even Berlin. Also we have a very good Spa on our doorstep with excellent facilities. Tandems are also well priced over here E210 inc vid thats £150 not many palces do them that cheep. 6. Hi Jezz There are a number of cameramen you should be talking to at Nethers, I'm not sure how many of them are using digital but I would imagine its most of them. Ash Hollick would be a good place to start for advice. Tell him Buzz sadi hello and Ill see him at Langar. FYI I had a 300D which produced fantastic results, as long as you dont expect to get out fire off a burst and get the money shot. High FPS is all well and good but you still need the skill to be there for the shot. I upgraded from the 300D to a 10D, which I never used for jumping as the 350D is out now and smaller and lighter. I will be buying a 350D pretty soon (once I have paid for my Tandem course) and have access to a 20D in the mean time. Digital is without a doubt the way to go, not only do you see instant results, it allows you control over what the punter gets. Good luck getting on the Video rotation at Nethers. We will need cameramen for the RAPA champs in July if you fancy a trip over theres always a gang from nethers coming over. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  7. The weather in Germany in June is great. The landing area here is huge 800m x 1000m You can fly to Paderborn from Stansted for as little as £35 return, and we are only 15 min from the airport unlike Empuria. Becks gold is 75p a bottle in the bar. I forgot to mention that we are primarilty a student DZ, that is to say we have 45 student come through the centre every 2 weeks averaging 8 jumps a piece. So you can rest assured that you will be well looked after as a student. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  8. Come visit us at RAPA in Germany the only BPA DZ in mainland Europe. You can fly from Stansted or Southampton to Paderborne, which is litrerally 15 min form the DZ (I'll pick you up myself). We are open 7 days a week, have all the facilities you need and cheep beer. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  9. Gotta agree with pilotdave. Any chance of a high res version (watermaked of course0 Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  10. dont buy a camera in the USA, they are NTSC format, which is not compatible with the European PAL standard. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  11. Good luck dude. I am on my BPA Tandem rating in April. Gotts say I aint looking forward to going on the front of someone, which is a requirement for going on the course. As is a minimum of 800 jumps and 8 hours free fall. The good thing is our DZ has Sigma's which is a sweet tandem sytem. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  12. Wus It was -15c on the ground here at Bad lipspringe today. If the plane could have taken off we would have been jumping. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  14. Is it a bad thing that I now have that page on my favourites list ??? It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  15. Count me in. Had Patron Silver for the first time at Perris last year, wanted to buy a bottle to bring back to Germany with me this time. Went to Elsinore in Jan and Carl introduced me to Patron Repasado and Anejo, He gave me a bottle of Repasado to come home with what can I say thanks dude, and I brought a bottle of Anejo. Had a trip to my favourite bar in the world "Freds" in San Diego. Me and my buddy who didnt like Tequila and couldnt figure out why I spent $60 on a bottle of it racked up a $360 bar bill in a little over 4 hours and got our names on the wall. Admittedly that did include a glass of £148 Tequila, but he is now a convert. Just a pity we cant get Patron in Europe. Anyone know what a bottle of Gran Patron goes for?? Buzz Everyone must have something to believe in, I believe I'll have another drink
  16. I would rather have the weight centred on my head. The leverage of having the stills camera on the front would increase the strain on my neck. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  17. What if a chick does you in the ass with a strap on, does that make you gay??? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  18. Thats spot on, the big thing for me is the weight issue. My FTP fully loaded with the 10D is pretty heavy, anywhere I can loose weight is a bonus. The increased resolution, faster processor and frame rate and functionality are added bonuses. As it happens I am a British Soldier serving in Germany, one of the benefits we have is tax free goods. That means if I get a good priuce for my 10D on Ebay the 350D shouldnt cost me a penny
  19. I have just set up my FTP with a DBox for my HC30 bolted direct to the plate as I have no need to remove the box. Prior to the DBox I used a strobo which was very good although with the HC 30 it doesnt sit absolutely level once tightened down. I have a 10D which I mount next to the DBox using a thumbscrew as the camera is too wide for the helmet. Once I get my 350D I will be using the Strobo or a Gold Member if I can get my buddies cheap enough. Pics of my set up can be seen here Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  20. I have to say that I applaude this. I witnessed 2 Cypres saves one at Hoxter and one in Empuria. That alone makes them worth the cost in my opinion. I too used to think that a Cypres was very expensive. I now work at the Rhine Army Parachute Centre in Bad Lipspringe, Germany. Helmut is a regular jumper here, and many Cypres test jumps have been made at the DZ. I was fortunate enough to have a tour round the Airtec factory, which is about 30 min from the DZ. Every unit is hand built, that is in every stage of production. They have a zero defect policy and very high quality control. The testing process that a Cypres unit undergoes prior to being released onto the market, and during servicing is extensive to say the least. This coupled with the ammount of staff he employs to provide this, and the relativly small ammount of units in circulation. I cannot imagine that the profit margin is any more than you would find on other electrical equipment. Helmut is well known on the DZ and I can assure you that he is not financially motivated, and does not seek a monoploly on AAD's. If he was perhaps he would have called his company Airtec Activation Devices and charged a damn sight more cash. Infact his motives are for the safety of the sport. If you are not aware of the history behind the Cypres I would be happy to tell you. You are more than welcome to purchase an AAD from a different manufacturer, there are a few on the market. By the way, has anyone out there got any electrical equipment that has worked flawlessly for more than 12 years? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  21. Gitta disagree with you there bud. The BBC series was very good, dont forget that Douglas was personally involved with it unlike the film. RIP Doug Buzz A hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  22. First saw him in a comedy series on BBC2 called The High Life, a very funny programme about flight attendants on Scotia Airways. Very funny guy. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  23. I have the HC30E which I have had for a year. I use it on a side mount and top mounted on a FTP in a DBox. I cannot recomend the HC30E highly enough, I can only imagine the 42 will be just as good. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  24. Here is a pic of the right hand side of the DBox. You can access all the connectors easily, I have my cam eye coming through the bottom of the ddbox with the cam eye button coming through the FTP plate. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  25. Well you could do worse than come over for the Easter Boogie or the RAPA champs in July. Im sure that JumpMunki who also jumps at PLee is coming over at some point. Flights are cheap through www.airberlin.com, and we will even pick you up from the airport. Check out the add in the new Skydivemag. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
