  1. Ok guys whos going?? I will be there Fri and Sat, any one got a floor I can kip on?? I will also be at the APA AGM on Thurs 20th, anyone else on here attending ?? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  2. Can they sort out a green card for me??? If so I am so there, guess Ill have to pop over when I get to Elsinore in jan, 33 days to go woo hoo.... Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  3. I see it as no different to seat belts/air bags in a car or helmet on a motorbike. Having seen three people survive two seperate potentialy fatal situations because they hads AAD's I feel there are few situations/arguments for not having one. Whilst AAD's are not mandatory, I respect an individuals decision to not use one. that wont stop me trying to persuade them otherwise. In what way do you think an AAD takes control out of the skydivers hand?? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  4. Actually its 2 Altis (an alti 2 and a Suunto Vector), one audible and a Cypres. No it doesnt mean they are unsafe or dangerous, but I do feel its unadvisable. That is a choice I guess you have in the USA, in the UK an alti is mandatory for anything over a 15 sec delay. AAD's are not yet mandatory in the UK, and I would be happy if they were. Which is a good skill, I too know what 2000ft looks like as I have usually been under canopy for 1000ft by then. I know what height I pull at because I use and alti. I also know that when I had a high speed rotating malfunction I lost 1000 very quickly indeed, which may have resulted in a main reserve entanglment if I had pulled low. I also know that when i am filming tandems and FS my alti is just jewelery, but my body clock, peripheral vision and audible are invaluable tools. Its not, is it hard to understand that your perception of height will change throughout the day due to many factors (visibility, exhaustion, heat inversion etc). Also if you are freeflying the chances are your not looking at the ground a great deal, in fact I believe one of the first things a good FF coach will instill in a student is alti checks. And I am pretty sure that canopy control schools teach students to use an alti to gauge the height lost in a turn (300ft for a 180 and 450ft for a 270), as well as using one when setting up for a swoop. I would be interested to know how many swoopers out there still eyeball there landings??? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  5. Ok ill bite. Gerry I am stunned that you jump without an alti, I am stunned that the DZ you jump at lets you get away with not wearing one. If your profile is correct, you are jumping a high performance canopy with a high wing loading 400 jumps in 2 years is relatively low experience. You have 300 FF jumps, does this mean that throughout these you never used a visual or audible alti?? You need to get some good advice bud, you really are pushing the envelope in an already uncompromising sport. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  6. A group of 7 of us from RAPA in Germany will be at Elsinore from 23rd Jan till 5th Feb. Who are the Elsinore jumpers on here?? Blue Skies Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  7. Here is a shot of me filming over Bad Lippspringe in Germany. -5 here this morning, roll on 23rd Jan and my trip to Elsinore. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  8. Heres one from last weeks Cyprus Boogie. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  9. Heres mt 10 cent worth Symbi - Buy cheap buy twice, although I do own a Symbi Slo Po as I find they give me the best range. I am on my second after the first was cut off me in Elsinore. I find that they are not as hard wearing as other makes but needs must when your a pie eater. Tony - Bullet proof excellent build quality but my slow suit doesnt give me the range the Symbi does. Fire Fly - Outstanding camera suits, better by far than the Tony, Symbi cam suits i have had and on a par with Rainbow. Rainbow - Vorsprung Durch Technique. Probably the best RW suits i have seen, build quality is great, very durable but dont really cater for the fuller figure. Michigan - another very good suit but also expensive. The above is based on personal experince with each make. My personal kit. I wear a Symbi twin zipper for dispatching on a daily basis, but that is going to be replaced by my new Rainbow swoop pants and a sweatshirt. Firefly camera suit for filming tandems and FS. Symbi SloPo for Warp and slow FS Tony Suit for fast FS Aircare FF suit for FF soon to be Rainbow FF pants. Rainbow Swoop pants for dispatching and swooping. BTW I am not affiliated to Rainbow but you should check them out. http://rainbowsuits.com/en/index.php Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  10. Sian I see from your profile that you have a Sabre 2 150. Who at South Cerny advised you on this canopy?? I gather from your post that you wont be jumping it yet, but I am interested in what advice you took. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  11. I have been to both DZ's and my personal preference is for Perris, although both are outstanding. A group of us from Bad Lippspringe in Germany will be in Elsinore from 24th Jan to 5th Fab. Maybe Ill see you there. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  12. Here are my set ups The FTP is for tandems and FS and anything else that needs real stable platform. The Pro Tec is for general day to day stuff, following students, FF fun jumps. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  13. I am flying a HC30. I am very impressed with it. I use it on a side mount when I am fun jumping or following students, and have it mounted on a FTP with my EOS300D for Tandems and filming FS etc. The image quality is excellent and I particularly like the easy cam button. The only critisism I have is that the power switch can be fiddly to operate with thick gloves on, something I have to do alot now the cold weather has arrived in Europe. 14. Gotta agree with you there fella. I have an AMD 2700XP system 512MB, 260GB HDD, DVD R/RW running Win XP, Vegas 5, DVDA, Photoshop CS. My buddy has a G4 Powerbook and other than the software specific differences we puit out tandem DVD's in pretty much the same time. One benefit I do have over him ist that I can fit multiple DVD burners and burn multiple copies of DVD's through Nero. The MAJOR benifit he has over my PC is that he can take his Powerbook anywhere instantly. I am looking at running some comparisons between Powerbooks and Laptops to see if there is any difference speed wise between them. For the money he paid for his PB I am sure you could get a kick ass Lap Top with change. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  15. I am using Vegas 5 and DVD Architect, I can honestly say it rocks. I had a cameracrew from the British Forces Broadcasting Services, turn up at the DZ on Monday as they were shooting some stuff for a program about our centre. They came in to my office to speak about footage and the like and were very impressed with my setup. Whilst I will admit that I Movie or I tandem as I like to call it is a very good editing solution for tandem edits stc. you do need an expensive Mac for it to run anything as fast as vegas on my AMD 2600XP. I have tried Premiere, Avid, Video Studio and found them all to be satisfactory. Spending a little time to RTFM will pay off for any package. But Vegas gets my vote hands down. Download the free trial, and manual and play around with ityou may be suprised. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  16. Hey John Have you ever come and jumped at Bad Lippspringe?? Helmut is a regular here as is Pinkie his test jumper. Our DZ was the sight of many test jumps fopr both Cypres and Cypres2. Next time your at Bad Lipp say hi (I am the big instructor with glasses) Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  17. The pics were taken nearly 3 years apart. I broke my ankle at Elsinore in 01 atempting to swoop the wind blades that were at the side of the ditch at the time. I sustained a dislocated ankle and fractured Fibula. I spent 5 weeks in hospital and was unable to jump until the following April The second pic was taken earlier this year at my DZ at RAPA. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  18. Nov 2001 I had 599 Jumps, 400 of them in the previous year, I was demo'ing a Vengeance 150 (same size as my Jonathan). I was at the time and still am a full time parachute instructor for the Brit Army. I work with 2 of the best canopy pilots in the UK and listened to there advice but still managed to cock up. The pic is the result. Jump No 600 was over 5 months later and I am still recieving physio for my injury. Now I have over 1400 jumps, I have had coaching from Jim Slaton and consider myself to be a reasonable canopy pilot regularly doing the ditch at my DZ. I am also a BPA Advanced Instructor (US STA equivalent) and I would never consider advising an intermediate parachutist with 50 jumps to do anything other than a normal approach. I would very critical of any other instructor that did. Two peolpe I know have died due to low turns one with 500 jumps and one with over 3000, another friend was very lucky that he didnt die, but a year later he has still not fully recovered from his injuries and will never jump again. I hope you never have to suffer from gaining experience from your mistakes, as I did. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  20. until I was on a bench in a railway station in Germany in 1986/87 being chased out into the cold by the Police, Interesting, where was this ?? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  21. Although we are a fair disatance from Sembach you could do worse than visit us at the Rhine Army Parachute Association (RAPA) at Bad Lipspringe. Details of the DZ can be found at www.jspc.de the web site is in German but it is staffed entirely by British Soldiers, so no probs with the language barrier. We have 2 turbine Islanders and regularly hold 20 way weekends, we are open 7 days a week and have all the facilities you would ecxpect to find at a DZ. We are also the only BPA (British Parachute Association) DZ in Europe. If you want any more info drop me a line. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  22. Picked it up today, but it will be a while till I get to jump it. Been messing with it loads trying to figure out which settings to use. What are you guys shooting in? Large/Fine, Large/Norm or RAW. I seem to get best of both if I use Large/Norm, that is good resolution and good cycle times. Can anyone tell me if the 18 - 55 lens that comes with the kit is 18 - 55 or is it subject to the 1.5 conversion factor?? Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  23. I have an HC 30E, I was a little concerned about the size of the CCD compared to the 40 but it offered everything I wanted at a really good price. I was a happy with the camera until someone on this Forum suggested using the EASY button. WOW what a difference. I cannot recomend the HC30E highly enough, it is outstanding. I am now the envy of the other video flyers on the DZ. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  24. I will be dropping by Hinton on my way to Brid. Are there any Hinton jumpers here that will be jumping on the 5th (thursday). Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
