  1. Ok, I can see were you might be able to say some of the previous things in your post but the above quoted statement is just pure talking out of your ass. ........ YOU'VE never made a mistake in your life, skydiving related or not? I stand by what I said, he checked his kit but did not notice it, look at the pic http://www.interone.net/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Skydiving-Adventures&id=aay This is exactly the kind of thing I do when teaching students how to carry out flight-line checks. Something which is mandatory under the BPA. Very true, but then again neither does 200 jumps. Mistakes, your own or someone elses give you experience. Time gives you experience. I will always question experience when something like this happens to someone. I will also question many other factors, to try and avoid simillar situations arising in the future. If I did not, then I would be failing in my position as an instructor. It is in everyones interest to make sure that riggers dont make these kind of mistakes. If he misroutes the bridal on a container, whats to say that one day he may not leave a molar strap on?? I know riggers that have made mistakes and I have reported it to the appropriate people. We are in a sport where mistake can lead to fatalities, to take them lightly is not god Karma. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  2. Yes I know, and I have already acknowledged that I messed up.. would you like me to print up a t-shirt that says it or would you like to continue to harp on this? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh I wanna harp on. You said and I quote "If you're implying that based on my jump numbers I should have caught this mistake I think you're out of line." The guy was right, you didnt spot something so obvious, and were lucky nothing worse happened. I am amazed that you actually carried out a pin check but didnt notice it. You also said "Well I told you what the facts were, are you calling me a liar? I know where my rig was.. " No I'm not calling you a liar, just saying that the rigger in question seems a little niave in accepting the responsibility for something that he did not know, nor could you prove was his fault. And I could get rid of at least a dozen of those shirts when you get em made up. Buzz
  3. Im sorry but he is absolutely right. You missed this basic check and obvious mal. You could just as easily missed something else the may have caused a double mal. Thats right, we all have some have cost us more dear than others, Ive just had the metal out of my ankle due to my mistake, but it was MY mistake, not PD's for having loops instead of blocks on their demo canopy risers. If he has accepted responsibility for misrouting the bridal after the rig being out of his sight for over 2 weeks, then he is a unique charachter. As I said before once it leaves his loft its no longer his responsibility. If he had made such a basic error on my equipment, I would no longer be using his services. Your reserve worked OK but I would still be wary of an experienced rigger who failed to spot a glaring mistake like that. Sorry but although you had the balls to post what happened, the fact that it did shows a certain lack of experience. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  4. Dude, its all your fault. Once you took that rig from your rigger it ceased to be his responsiblity. I am curious to know whether anyone checked you prior to emplaning? Here at RAPA we run under BPA rules./ These state that you must have an equipment check. You can always tell the Brits at a foreign DZ as we are the ones checking eac other before the lift. Glad you lived and learned bud. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

    Dive loops

Yeah, dive loops are on the front risers, they alow you to control the canopy using front risers more easily. I would however advise riser blocks, as they achieve the same effect but in my oppinion are easier to use. With loops you may need to look up to put your fingers in them, wuith blocks there is no need to. I also recomend not changing from blocks to loops, or vice versa when demoing a new canopy. The pic on the left is the result of me doing just that. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  6. I am lead to believe Vectran creates less drag than micro line (someone could always prove otherwise). This is not an issue on bigger canopies, but is if your a swoop monster trying for that extra distance. Are you aware that swoopers are now using removeable sliders and pc's?. Imagine the amount of drag your lines create, is there anyone out there who can supply figures? Buzz
  7. Id love to use slide film, but unfortunately most of the stuff I do is for the guys from the DZ who want prints. I am thinking about slide film for specific shoots though. Is it easy to get prints from slide? Buzz
  8. This info is available on http://www.icaruscanopies.com/maintenance.htm The figures I quoted are from Joris himself. Buzz
  9. Also 10 inches shrink on a 230 is not as noticeable as 3 on a 110. Buzz
  10. It sure is, sorry my brain is still addled from the BPA AGM. Buzz
  11. Probably, but I'm a Vegas convert. VV3 is sooooooo easy to use as long as you RTFM. I have tried Prem and MSP, they suck in comparison. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  12. After asking the same question here and searching the web I find I get really good images from my EOS500, 19/35mm Tamron using TV setting @500. I have the lense set to 19mm, manual focus just short of infinity. This gives me good DoF for everything from tandems to FS. I was using 200ASA at this setting, but I am not happy with the grain on big enlargements (60cmx40cm). I will start the new season shooting 100, and maybe even some 50 if I can source it. I may even post some pics. Buzz
  13. Having spoken to Jorris from Icarus Canopies, I can offer the following info. Icarus will only spec Vectran on their VX/FX, no other option. They advise Vectran on all canopies, even Omni and Saphire. The reason for this is as follows. 1. Vectran does not shrink. It does have minimal shrinkage around 8mm (1/3 inch) as opposed to Microline that can shrink up to 8 cm (7 inches +). 8 cm of shrinkage will have a very noticeable effect on the handling of the canopy, moore so on smaller canopies. 2. Vectran is more aerodymanic than microline. The main disadvantage of Vectran, if you want to call it one, is that needs to be replaced after 400 jumps. 14. This is dependent on the type of aircraft used. The JM must control the static line to prevent it becoming entangled with the jumper during his movement into the door and exit. As said before the length of static line is determined by the type of aircraft, and is of a length that will ensure the static line or deployment bag will not strike the tail of the aircraft. This means for example that at a DZ that uses Islanders, you cannot use the same static lines on say a Porter. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  15. This is really easy in Vegas. 1. Right mouse click on the clip you want to reverse. 2. Selece "Insert/Remove Velocity envelope. 3. You will see a blue line runing along the centre of the clip. 4. Left click and hold on the blue line and drag it down so the velocity of the clip reads - 100. This will play the clip in reverse at full speed. 5. To slow the clip down in forward or reverse, set the velotity to a smaller %age (50% = Foward at 1/2 speed, -50% = backwards at 1/2 speed. 6. You must also increase/decrease the length of the clip to take into account the speed. 7. You do this by Left clicking on the edge of the clip and draging it left or right to increase/decrease the length. 8. If you change the speed of the clip you will need to "Resample" the clip to reduce flicker. This is done by Right clicking on the clip and selecting "Switches - Resample" This gives a smoother video. 9. You can add points to the velocity envelope by double clicking on it, right clicking on a point will allow you to select "Set To" which gives better controll over %age than dragging. I hope that helps Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  16. Unfortunately I said goodbye to Jack, Linda and Melanie after the BPA AGM. It was great to see them, Linda is a real laugh. One good thing to come of it is that I will get to come out to Perris again in Nov on our Staff trip. Blues Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  18. Jumping during the week? My brother in law is out there this week, low timer just started , I could do with someone making him feel welcome. His name is Rich Swaffield he is out there with his mate Danny Cavanagh. I just got a text from him saying he's done his 13th jump in 2 days and was off to the tunnel. If you see him tell him Buzz said hi and to buy you a beer. Oh yeah he has "SKIDS" written on the chest of his jumpsuit, something to do with his AFF. 24. Its all over the UK news dude. The papers got hold of the story of an unnamed Rock Star who's credit card had been used to access a site. Pete Townsend then publicly announced that he had visited the site for research purposes, but had not dl anything. police have with "Mutual consent" removed all his computer equipment along with floppies and videos, and are questioing him. Apparently he was abused as a child. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
