You dont know unless you try, however. It depends on a number of factors, you altitude, the speed of the mal, and experience. I would not recomend it as a course of action to a student. If its not BIG, RECTANGULAR or CONTROLABLE, carry out your reserve drills. Having said that I have seen student not realise they have a line over, carry out their controll checks and clear it. This is more likely to happen on a large student canopy, but not guarenteed. buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

A Cam Eye could have prevented this incident Seriously though, what camera do you have? My mate has a PC8 mounted on the right side of his Gath, and had a problem with it switching off on a dive exit. He remedied it by making a wind shield for the standbye switch. I have jumped the same camera with it mounted on the left hand side and had no problem without a shield. I could also be the cold and moisture at altitude. If you had a cam eye you would have see the light go out and may have been able to do something about it. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

i'm not second guessing anyone here, but am i missing something? even with line twist you can see severe line over. is this something you would try to clear? I was fully aware of my altitude, I was under a low speed mal - on the original footage you can hear my audible going off at 2k as I grab the toggles of the res. This was my first and so far only mal, and I remember thinking a couple of things. 1. I wanted to make sure I made the best effort to clear the problem, before I went for my last chance. 2. A good friend of mine who is very experienced once said " It aint a mal if the toggles are still on". I know this is not the best piece of advice but at the time I could not work out what the exact problem was, so I spent some time trying to sort it. If I had been lower, or the canpy had been winding up, once I'd cleared the twists and saw there was still a problem I would have been off it. I have had severe line twists and know how fast my canopy can wind up. 800 jupms ago I would probably have been off it straight away. With out a doubt my favourite scene is when they are at Duff Gardens. Bart is in the gift shop with one of Marge's sisters, he is looking for a sign that says "Bart" but finds one that says "Bort" que lots of people being called "Bort". Then the piece de resistance Bart finds a pair of "Beer Goggles" on the rack, puts them on and is backoned by this babe. When he takes them off he sees it was his aunt ugh. I'm sure the rest of the guys will relate to that. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

I think you need to recheck those figures Doh Thanks, I proof read that post twice as well. The correct figures are:- 150 = .93 ppsf 135 = 1.04 ppsf 120 = 1.17 ppsf My comments still stand. As to canopy choice, I have jumped both Tri and Spectre. If you want a canopy that packs easy go for the Tri, they use a real nice ZP. Also the Tri will give you a 1000ft opening if you roll the nose. Nice if you want a soft opening, not to cool if your jumpiing into a demo at 1500ft The Spectre is what you would expect from a PD canopy, I dont think resale would be to bad for the PD canopy but it may be for the tri. I hope you dont mind me asking, but why do you want to downsize? Are you exceding the performance of your current canopy? I notice from your profile that you have 125 jumps, is that correct or just out of date. I wouldn't recomend downsizing if you only have 125 jumps. You are currently loading your canopy at 1.1 which is conservative, and will give you a little more reaction time if you need it. Downsizing to a 135 will give you a wing loading of .96, and a 120 = .86. As you down size things happen much quicker, turns are faster and you will loose height quicker, giving you less time to deal with any problems. This isn't restricted to canopy flight. Twists, a brake fire or line over will all become more severe as you downsize, turning a nuisance into a mal I would suggest you speak to the instructors/DZO at your DZ and get some unbiased advice from the poeple who know how you handle your canopy. If you have already then ignore the above. To put it into a bit of perspective 2 people I knew died last year under fast canopies which they weren't overloading, one had 500 jumps the other over 3000. I dont want to see every body flying Manta's but I dont want to see people dying because no one tried to make them wait a little and gain more experience. Dont be in a rush to go small. Dude, that was the only other helmet I really liked but the web site isn't more than a welcome page. i saw the pics of his set up with the D box and liked it. What doe sit run in US currency and what are turn around times? My bad, I was thinking of cookie composites. i did however go to the 2k site and the FF2 lloks about the same. Any info you have bis appreciated. The FF2 goes around $540 plus shipping The FFX is around $520 plus shipping Shipping is about $40 you can check out http://www.2kcomposites.com/html/products.html for more info. On the other hand an Optic with D box will run you $468 + shipping. And a Flat Top is $680. My advice is go Bonehead, a much better product than any other helmet I've seen on the DZ. No one got my impact on video, but I told the first person on the scene (Mick Nealis) to go get it camera and video the rest. I had the accident in Nov 01, was off the road till Apr 02, had the metal work out a year to the day after it was put in. So I didnt miss much of the season, and still managed 300 jumps last year.
