That's really cool Erroll. I hadn't thought about that aspect of the political threads; that they might be enlightening, or at the very least, interesting to people who have a very different type of political climate where they live. I personally feel the same as you, too ignorant of politics in general even though I live in the US to feel comfortable debating in them because I try not to argue about something unless I'm certain or feel strongly about it. I'm with you, however, on the general feeling of disappointment when a healthy debate turns personal or hateful. That's another reason I generally don't pay much attention to the political or religios threads. My mom always taught me that you never talk about politics and religion with friends if you want to remain friends Pammi

Nickelback..anyone want to go to a concert tonight?
Pammi replied to moodyskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Nice! That'll be fun! Too bad I'm not close either! (although male companionship might be a better offer ) Pammi -
LOL! Yeah the old "do you think all this is free?!" speech! I can imagine how nervous you were teaching them! Samantha went up with us when we did a jump once and I kept thinking "Ty's still on the ground..what if the plane crashes and he loses his whole family in one shot!" I'm a rather morbid thinking sorta person I thought Sam would be freaking out about seeing us get out. She just shrugged and started telling me about the instruments in the plane. Geez. I used to hate watching Merrick go while we were on student status! Pammi

Ah, what about smells too :)

That's a great idea flyangel! And aweful damn nice of you as well. Our daughter in particular is really itching to go but is only 11 so has a ways to wait still. I don't know if our son will end up doing it or not. He's a little more timid then our daughter and I would never pressure them to jump later at all. In fact, I kinda wish they wouldn't because I'm a worrier :) Pammi

I bribe my kids all the time, between that and threatening surely they'll grow up okay Yeah, Merrick and I are working on being the coolest parents ever...or maybe it's just cuz we're still kids too

Geez, lots of bad news going around.

I'm sorry :( Was he on the motorcycle when he wrecked? If so, I'd imagine he's VERY lucky that's all that happened. There will be options available to him financially. Try to help him not worry about that yet, he needs to heal and get better. YOU try to not worry too much because he'll be fine..it's easy to obsess when you can't be there close and feel guilty. Nothing you can do but talk to him and pray for him. Pammi

ROFL! Buy them rigs! Too funny! Poor things are going to be saying "Mom, I'm saving for a car!" "Well honey, I guess you didn't want that rig very much then, did ya?" So not nice Thanks, it was amazing. I still remember when I went at 13 vividly..it was the coolest thing ever. Now I'll remember THEM doing it...it was amazing watching them...especially seeing them flying with the other guy. And got Merrick at least one thing that I know he loves for his birthday so far! Made the crappy reason for the trip out there better and allowed me to destress a little :)

Merrick and I had to go to TN for a family emergency Tuesday and Wednesday so decided on the way back we'd let the kids try the tunnel in Pigeon Forge like I first did when I was 13 (I swear that must've been where the obsession started!) and as an early birthday present for Merrick. They were perfect little flyers..I was so proud :) They told my daughter she had a great arch and was 'doing 115 mph' and the guy helping them flew a little two way with each of them. It was funny, he had to put his arm over Tyler to keep him from flying into the ceiling when they turned the fans up since he only weighs 50 pounds dripping wet when he flew with him. And as for Merrick, the guy pointed at him after he came back down the first time and did a little flappy sign with his hands asking if he flew We didn't tell them before we went in that we jump..lol. It was incredible being in the tunnel...thank heavens there isn't one too close or I'd be in trouble. It wasn't as expensive as I thought, though; almost exactly the same as a regular jump. Not bad. I guess they now have 3 minutes of freefall each My mom said I screwed up though..now they really will end up becoming like us...obsessed with jumping :) Oh darn! Pammi

Are you kidding me?! Have you seen what's going around about this guy now? He's getting famous for being an idiot! If only I'd known that my redneck roots could get me make me rich and famous! Do a search on Google...there are PAGES of the guy now. Link with newscast Soundboard Pammi

Thats still her excuse for biffing in her landing... Love ya Lou ROFLMAO!! Whatever, 20 mph winds might actually get me a standing up landing! I think I've had about 10 of those since I started Gawd, I remember Sangiro trying to make me feel better about my 27 jump IAD progression! I sucked then, and I suck now Who cares, it's still fun! I believe my low pull was the big to do back then, or maybe getting my arm wrapped in my bridle. Who knows..there's a list :) Pammi

Hmm...so that's what I have to look forward to eh? Although we haven't gotten to the door slamming part yet, I think we're edging that way quickly. We ARE having huge issues about applying herself though. She's also gifted, tested and all that, but I have to get on her to actually make the effort because her grades periodically sink out. I know she's smarter then the D's or F's she brings home now and then...WAY smarter. I think it's more about laziness then brains. Grounding from the computer is a big thing right now ... then I come up with interesting ones now and again. Merrick says I can be quite inventive. I disagree. I WAS the smart, good girl in high school. And I graduated with honors, a 3.9 GPA, AND a baby! There's so much more to growing up then intelligence. Please guys, take notes and pass them on as you go through this! I am SO not ready for this yet and have NO IDEA what I'm doing! Don't tell them that tho One question is this: Everyone agrees that we should try to keep our kids hanging out with other good kids..but how do you do that? How do you control who they talk to at school even if you don't let them hang out at other times?? Merrick had a good laugh this morning though. Said Tyler was wiggling around and touching himself excessively on the way to school this morning so he finally asked him what he was doing. He told him he "peewee keeps growing and he doesn't like it" and held a finger straight up to demonstrate! Merrick assured him it was normal but I'm not sure him laughing so hard about it helped Pammi

There, I fixed it. Y'all were right. It just appeared to me that a generalization that was directly involving a certain persons spouse could be construed as personal. My bad. Back at ya turtle, I agree. My opinion is that it wasn't much of a generalization if it specifically is aimed at one person/person's family. I wouldn't even talk about my spouse's family...too touchy for most people. Pammi

I'm surprised this thread isn't locked by now. THIS thread is what's sad. Pammi

Nice Skymama. My daughter actually came home the other day and said how she'd heard this boy liked her and proceeded to tell me all she'd heard about him, how he was tall, nice and smart. It didn't come up until later that he was black; she said she didn't really think about it. I was proud of her. I won't lie and say that it doesn't concern me a little if she were to date a boy later of a different race (she's too young now to be dating anyway!) because while she doesn't see it, and I don't care what he is, just who he is, others WILL notice. I had to deal with my own father's prejudices when I married her father who was Mexican. I wouldn't imagine it'd be a simple relationship for her, but I guess most aren't anyway and I think she's brave enough to think for herself. You know I have noticed that a lot of kids nowdays seem more tolerant then even when I was a teenager. They enjoy being 'weird' and 'different'...actually try to be. That's so fantastic. Pammi

LOL! Gawd, that looks so painful, but would be pretty damn cool to show off if you can take it ;)
