Difference between Tangerine and Orange Crossfire 2
jurgencamps replied to mysky's topic in Gear and Rigging
I recently designed my Safire2 with tangerine ribs and slider... it is very bright and fluorescent orange. Go with the tangerine. The tangerine is WAY brighter than it appears in that coloring chart.. Ditto that, Gold seems much brighter than yellow and lemon in that color chart, but in reality lemon is the brightest of the three colors. The same is true for orange and tangerine. My wife's canopy is tangerine. It is a very bright color -
RDS is there any point right now?
jurgencamps replied to aykay's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I wouldn't say that, but I simply haven't heard of any major incidents that were a direct result of the RDS. The stuff I've heard about had other contributing factors, like letting a lineset get too many jumps on it, etc. Maybe someone else has heard differently? I think that there was one incident last year or two years ago. It was reported at the incidents forum. I am to lazy to look it up. -
The tempo 150 is smaller than the pd reserve (optimum or not) 143. If you want the biggest reserve in you rig, go for the optimum or the speed reserve.

+ 2000 jumps with a vengeance (120), zero cutaways, loved the openings. During packing, do as less as possible to the canopy. Dealing with an airlocked canopy in windy days is no big deal. After landing, turn around, put the canopy upside down on the ground and do 1 (or a few) step(s) to the canopy to keep some slack in the brakes and the rear risers. When other skydivers with non airlocked canopies were running in order not to get dragged on high wind days, the vengeance stayed on the ground. If necessary, I just had to put one foot on the canopy. Gr Jurgen

Mmm, did a search and found out that the manufacturer of the vigil cutters does not manufactures the cutters of the Cypres and the Argus.
-
Do a search and tell me who manufactures the cutters of the Cypres, Vigil, Argus, ... Isn't it "Nobel energetics"?

Check your spam mail. It wouldn't be the first time that a reply of a dealer, company ... is marked as spam.

Cypres 1 turnoff problem, I finally caught one
jurgencamps replied to peek's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've heard this a lot of times. As an engineer with a background in embedded systems, I've always been skeptical. Google found CYPRES current draw measurements: http://www.pcprg.com/cyprespc.htm Average current draw in standby: (27 s * .23 mA + 3 s * 6.5 mA) / 30 s = 0.857 mA While turning off, assuming LED flash and button pushes are 1 second long (they are actually shorter than that, so it will actually use less charge than this, but close enough for our purposes): 3 s * (7.6 mA + 13.5 mA) = 63.3 mA*s So turning off is equivalent to being in standby for 63.3 mA*s / 0.857 mA = 73.9 seconds. Probably less since I've overestimated the duration of the LED flashes and button presses. Conclusion: turning a CYPRES off uses less power than leaving it on, unless it is within about a minute of turning itself off. Airtech gave that message to prevent that people would switch their cypres on and off between two jumps in order to save some batteries. It's more than probable that it's the switching on that costs a lot of energy. -
This is not the reason why you set your brakes. The reduced forward speed during/after the opening is only a byproduct. Brakes are set to force the air into the nose of the canopy in order to inflate it. The stabilizers left and right and the tail (which is pulled down) catch more air and direct this air into the nose of the canopy. So not setting the brakes will give you slower (to slow?) openings normally. Gr Jurgen

If you still have your d handle in its pocket when you are performing a canopy check of your reserve, I think you have lost valuable time in your EP's . With some malfunctions (for ex hard pull, pilot chute in tow, ...) your main will stay in it's container after you have pulled the cutaway handle. No main leaving the container ==> no pull from the rsl. In 1999 we had a deadly accident. No pull, no AAD, only pulled the cutaway handle. Do you know what a rsl will do in this case? Nothing. To garantee an activation of your reserve, pull that d handle. If the rsl did its job, just before you could do it yourself, fine. If the rsl didn't do its job for whatever reason, you have not lost valuable time when you also have pulled the d handle yourself. When the shit hits the fan, maybe you have time to think and maybe you are able to think. History has proven that often this is not the case.

Who says it isn't a personal decision? Where is the logic that a 16 year old kid can drive a car but cannot make a (tandem)jump? Is it smart to see young children fire guns they barely can hold?

SPEED, a reserve made by Paratec packs as small as the optimum from PD and flys very well. http://www.paratec.de/index_start.html click products, reserve, speed

Lot's of DZO's / STA's will not like this practice. Talk to yours, before you do this. However, if you do this at my DZ, I will certainly ground you. Believe me, you will get a comparable reaction at a lot of other DZ's.

There are no locking theeth with the Mpod. Never heard of a line entanglement with the locking theeth of the other versions. Everything is possible, but ...

As far as I've been able to gather (much discussion, I'm still learning) you can't. The idea being that if the canopy is opening/open before the lines are stretched, you can have a hard opening. No line dump possible with a normal bag????? Please use bigger rubber bands or old, worn-out ones ready to snap . Line dump with a normal bag happens when a rubber band or tube stow snaps during/before the opening or when the lines are not tight enough kept by the rubber bands or tube stows or … I said if but I was picturing an odd opening on a tight container with a sloppy pack job (I'm guilty!) or some of the excess in the bottom of the container grabbing the top flap and opening it. Don't get me wrong, I love magnets, they're awesome but I'm just asking the question to get the opinions of people who know more about this than me... i.e. just about everyone. I am also a very sloppy packer, so no worries, I have already tested that for you ;-) If the container can grap the topflap of your lazybag, it also can grab the closingflap of a normal bag. I do not understand your concern. The magnets close very firmly. Just do not use a bag which is too small for the canopy. Lower relative to what? Lower than with a normal bag.
-
No problem (or read: the same rules apply as with a normal bag) if the canopy is smaller. If the canopy is bigger, the magnets still have to be aligned in order to close the bag. bBut shoot the rigger who makes them an e-mail See http://www.pgasus.be/ Or just order a bigger bag in that case.
-
Possible but not desirable. It will create more problems. If you have a bigger canopy than the size your container is made for, buy a bigger bag. More magnets = more weight + higher prices I don't know, but shoot the maker an e-mail.
-
How can you get line dump with a normal bag? How can the magnets come undone? I cannot say that it will never happen, but the probability will be much lower. Jurgen
