  1. I always use earplugs and hear my audible very good (was protrack, now optima).
  2. There was a problem with the crossfire I. The serial numbers of the concerned canopies were published on the internet. It was a punctual problem with only a specific "batch" of crossfire's I. The crossfire II came out after this incident. So the crossfire is not more or less prone to turbulence than any other comparable canopy.
  3. Maybe we also can start a thread like that one about ..... skydiving? Oh, wait, somebody already did that http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?forum=14;
  4. I know that EmpuriaBrava does a tandem as a first jump. They have very good experiences with this. The see that a lot of students have to redo less levels. Their AFF course with the tandem is not more expensive than a "normal" AFF course. They teach a lot of stuff during this first jump and the student gets a experience (like flying the landing pattern). Of course they do not charge a normal tandemprice, but it is part of the packageprice. BTW why improve something that functions ?
  5. Try to mount it on a vented helmet that way. They call it the gopro helmet for some reason. see: http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php?area=2&productid=29 ... One of the above mentioned helmet mounts is a lace-through strap-mount designed for vented helmets.
  6. The swooppond at Zwartberg (Belgium) From google earth More pictures http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2222535;search_string=zwartberg;#2222535 CU Jurgen
  7. Isn't there some logging possible with the vigil? See which speeds it has logged. But do not worry. You are not in the dangerzone with that canopy and that wingloading.
  8. I personally saw a cameraman walking to the plane, checking his wings. He only forgot his rig, small detail. The rules in our sport are written in blood. Check the incident were a inexperienced jumper (wingsuit with less than 200 jumps) forgot his leg straps. Please learn from the mistakes we made before you even started skydiving. At least invent your own new mistakes in stead of repeating the old ones. Even the very experienced jumpers will continue to make mistakes. One big difference: they have a much higher probability to detect the mistake before they are in trouble. CU Jurgen
  9. This specific incident happened with a cypres 2 (opening at 9000 ft)
  10. I have a neptune and had to send it back for the third time to have it repaired, because it failed again. The new cases of the viso, optima are stronger now.
  11. No, but there are more factors (quality of the battery, temperature)
  12. I remember a discussion on DZ.com with Tomaiello (wingsuit, base, water). I am to lazzy to look it up.
  13. Huh Noble makes the cutters used in the ARGUS and the CYPRES. Both cutters will cut trough a steel cable (VIGILS cutter too). Cypres the perfect AAD and the rest is rubbish? Please, keep on dreaming.
  14. Have not seen the video, but I had a mal like that on my stiletto. Spinning linetwist and a line over at the same time. First I did not notice the line over due to the spinning linetwist. After clearing the linetwist, I noticed that one stearingline was "misrouted". I think that I had a lineover which cleared, but to the wrong side. Have to admit that I was rushed and did a sloppy packjob.
  15. If you want a small packvolume and a reseve which lands fine, try also the speed from paratec. BTW I jump a velo 90 and a 150 reserve. No need to swoop the reserve. But do you really want a high wingloading when you land your reserve on, for example, a tenniscourt over some trees and have to stop before the tennisnet (I did this) or during a funnel, you get your shoulder dislocated and can only use one arm, ... (not me, but happened to a friend)? Which canopy do you prefer? Jurgen
  16. If this is the case, they have changed their policy a few years ago (luckily).
  17. Check out if the cypres has received the 4 y inspection. A cypres with 3 years left on it, is worth nothing if it still needs the 4 and 8 y (both) inspections. On the other hand, a cypres with only 1 year left but with the 4 and 8 y inspections done is still good to buy.
  18. The report says that it did not function as advertised. It SHOULD function as advertised. That is the reason it is bought, isn't it? Any more news? Like using not the right reserveloop? The AAD can only do its work when the whole system (container, reserve, loop, packing, ...) is reliable. Jurgen
  19. Germany more than a few years ago (8, 10, 15 years ?). Demojump went wrong, no pull due to misrigging a flag around the legstrap (and briddle). Skydiver "plunges" into a full soccerstadion and killes 2 or 3 spectators.
  20. Are you sure that you did not made an error? Individual jumps: 24 € Equipment rent: Price: 16.2 € / jump (includes packjob) In order to jump in Skydive Empuriabrava it is mandatory to have a Third Party Insurance for skydiving. Yearly Insurance: 164 €, Quarterly Insurance: 72 € http://www.skydiveempuriabrava.com/disciplines_preus_general-2.html
  21. Wrong test. Never install reversed riser on a rig not made for them. You only have proved that, not that they do not function on an atom. That is another test. Please, do that test and come back with the results.
  22. You do not set you AAD higher or lower. You just change the activation altitude. A good example when you have to change the activation altitude of your AAD: Skydive Spa in Belgium. The airport, DZ, clubhouse ... are at the same place. Sometimes jumprun takes you above a hill (+100 m, 330 ft). If you do not change the activation altitude of your AAD when this is the case, ... And please stop comparing the AAD with an altimeter. Jurgen
  23. RTFM If the airport is lower than the LZ, the Cypres will recalibrate at the lowest point, in this case the airport. There is a drawing in the cypres manual. For ex. if you take off at a airport at 4000 ft asl, do a lowpass at a field at 3500 ft asl and jump at a dz at 4240 ft asl, your cypres will fire at 10 ft above the dz. Two german skydivers were killed when they lost altitude awareness a few years ago just in a similar situation. The plane took off at DZ A, did a low pass at DZ B (lower) and they jumped at DZ C (higher). They even had set the correct altitude offset. http://www.cypres.cc/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=89&func=startdown&id=11&lang=en see pg 32
  24. The Cypres activation altitude can be changed by the user. It has to be done each time the unit is turned on, but it can be changed. Euh, after each jump. But you are right, it has to be done when you switch it on. If you make 6 jumps that day in the same conditions, you have to switch it off, on, set the altitude 6 times.
  25. I have no picture but it works perfect. Yes you can open the visor without any problem when the camera is not mounted.
