Really?I am pretty sure that a grainy black and white image is hardly attractive and so unless it is a power trip thing it is difficult to see the appeal. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

What kind of freak thinks that the TSA get off on seeing them? If anything the TSA should be complaining about seeing 300 pound naked people. Plus I am pretty sure that there is very little appealing about human genitals crammed into clothing. Unless people are running around airports with butt plugs in (and then they deserve the embarrassment!) I don't really see a problem. The bigger issue is that your pockets have to be "truly" empty with no paper or fragments. If I had the guts I would put a reflective sticker under my clothes like a car bumper sticker - maybe with the words "If you are a hot chick and like what you see call 123..." Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/08/sports/08sportsbriefs-shooting.html?_r=1&src=twrhp I can see this as a "foot in the door" to mandate the use of laser guns instead of real guns in future Olympics... The first problem is that a laser is a straight line-of-sight target aiming system. There are no ballistics involved, due to the force of gravity pulling the bullet downward. Thus, no mental calculations are necessary to adjust the sights for bullet drop at various distances. A laser is also unaffected by wind, and thus no mental calculations and sight adjustments are necessary for windage. Furthermore, the variations of loaded ammo are removed, such as the amount of powder charge, the weight of the bullets, and the neck tension holding the bullet in the cartridge case. Meticulous care in loading ammo will no longer be necessary to produce uniform results. In other words, as a test of skill, and mental and physical prowess, it will turn shooting sports into nothing more than a cheap video game. Maybe the entire Olympics should just be replaced with Wii games! A laser beam does NOT replicate the shooting of actual bullets. Jeez maybe it is to make them feel good about themselves when using a laser pointer in a presentation. It is a really stupid move. My boys are just learning to shoot an pellet gun and struggling to get the strength up to shoot accurately from the shoulder. BTW I bought some of the coloured targets from Walmart that "splatter" on impact for a high-visibility hit they are pretty neat and the kids love them. I worked for someone whose policy on recruitment was simple. He only hired contractors as the first step. Spent time filtering through the CV's and spent less than 5 minutes interviewing you (my interview was a minute or two as the phone rang and he kicked me out as it was an important call). He then basically sacked you if you were incompetent, if you were mediocre you lasted your contract duration (3 months normally) and if you fit/he liked you he then offered top dollar and converted you to permanent staff. While expensive it is still the most successful method of building an engineering team I have ever come across. However the strangest interview I have ever been in was 10-12 years ago. I was lead engineer and the project was in deep trouble. The company wouldn't employ more people but allowed me to get outside help from a leading consultancy. During the "assistance" period I put my CV on the market and it ended up on the consultants desk that I was dealing with as they were recruiting. At the interview Mike walked me around to introduce me and telling everyone that I would be working there and starting soon. They hadn't even formally offered me the job yet or been through security vetting. Without doubt the best job I have ever held. I even survived being the person who brought down the entire IT system for a week with the "I love you virus" (amazing who opened those emails though). It is a pity that the pay sucked. Continental to Aisa...is it as bad as Continental to Europe?
nigel99 replied to shah269's topic in The Bonfire
I absolutely hate flying with US carriers - Detla, AA or Useless Air. I find that when I am a "captive" client and being forced to pay for drinks/headphones etc is a pain in ass, especially as due to security I try to keep what I carry on to a minimum. Added to that my experience of Business class on AA was simply the same level of comfort as BA premium economy - they didn't have the lie down bed/seat just more space. Favourite airline is BA and I usually try and fly premium economy to the US and Business back as I don't sleep on the day flights so it is not worth wasting the money. Airport Body Scanners: Latest Episode of Security Theater
nigel99 replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
I might have just been lucky but I have usually had decent treatment from security people. In Fort Worth the boys had asked us to by a mini-replica M16 fire lighter and I asked the security people if there was any special requirement as it was both a lighter and certainly in the UK could be treated as "anything that looks like a weapon". Security laughed said not to worry and pushed us through the fast track. While I understand the requirement for security it can make life more difficult. Today I fly out to the US and I have a choice - check bags and take a screwdriver or carry on and borrow one from the client or buy one? It is a pain in the ass. Anyway the problem is that while people are out to kill us the more thorough the searches the more methods they will try and it will remain a vicious circle. I wouldn't be surprised to see us having to change into airline/state issued jumpsuits and removing all our clothing at some point in the future. I don't know if Ireland has the same employment laws as the UK, but as of 2005 or 2006 it's illegal in the UK to discriminate on the basis of age (in addition to race, gender, religion, sexuality). So employers are not allowed to say or hint that they want someone young - they are not allowed to ask dob either. Although you are free to put it on your CV if you want. And anyway we all know people are discriminated against on all counts regardless of all these laws... I suppose in a way it may be no more or less discriminatory in France, except that they are perhaps more upfront about it. It is funny people always assume employers want "young". For men that might be the case but as a UK business owner where most of my friends/acquaintances also own business "young" women are not very welcome. It really sucks when you have to keep a job open for 6 months paying for someone on maternity leave and paying temporary staff only to have the person leave at the end of it. Our neighbours wife did this TWICE and a friends wife did as well. It may be the law but it sinks small businesses. I think the information is relevant to an employer. For example I would happily employ an older women who is married and has kids to do admin work as I know that work won't impact their lifestyle and they tend (as a generalisation) to be more reliable and you can trust their judgement. Conversely high intensity design work is better suited to a young single person who doesn't have to work 9-5 and pick the kids up from school as the hours can be long and disruptive. Ultimately different jobs fit different people and I think employers have a right to make that judgement call. I don't see the point of the photo though unless you are applying for a job as a hooker or model. That said as a consultant I have a CV that is routinely given out to clients and it does have a photo on it - but the rational is that it helps give people a "face" as we don't always meet in person. I "suppose" you could also argue that it shows presentation - I wouldn't want some tattoo and piercing riddled person with bright green hair manning my reception desk for example. If your netbook lets you boot from a USB port then there are a couple of flavours of linux that will run from a memory stick (knoppix is an example). This would let you keep Windows untouched on the hard-drive and use Linux when you want to without all the dual booting hassles. It has the advantage that you don't need to worry about your porn history either Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -

We tend to install Linux on "old" PC's that are too tired to keep up with Windows. It usually gets you a few more years as Linux is generally not as bloated. If all you are after is interested in is the internet and basic word processing/office documents then Linux is fine and easy to use. Youu really seem to be having trouble grapsing this composition. yes ferrric oxide is rust, and yes thermite, thermate and nano thermite are made with this product. but you are suggesting that the rust is from the steel structure, while ignoring that it is in a carbon matrix, mated with the other ingredients and is a volitile incediary which can be ignited with a lazer. or flame. you ignore, and ignoring evidence is unscientific. I have had the opportunity to "play" with thermite. It is impressive that some old iron filings and aluminium dust can be so volatile/potent(that is what we used). I 100% agree with you that about the incendiary nature of the mixture, I just disagree with you on its origins. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Iron oxide is rust I am not surprised to find iron oxide on metal beams in a 40 year old building. I must admit I despair, you have selected the most convoluted and complicated rational and ignore any suggestion of alternative explanations. To be 100% honest with you I simply can't accept that a conspiracy or cover up could happen on the scale you are proposing. As a result I am not all that interested in spending lots of time researching but I am simply giving you the most obvious explanations. Let us not forget that 9/11 in New York was THE most video'd and photographed attack/catastrophe in history. Add to this the fact that Manhattan is highly populated and the odds of slipping something past everyone is minuscule. 100nm is not small on a chemical scale so yes 100nm particles are in abundance. The features in modern digital electronics are down at 90nm and even that is not classified as nanotechnology (unless a geek is trying to get laid) I have never seen particles wearing uniforms though. Were they US Marine or Iraqi national guard uniforms - that might help with who was behind it? Seriously though the paper that you referred to had chips as big as 2.5mm in length. Here is a link to a random patent application covering undercoats on metal from 10nm to 1um.http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6736890/description.html It seems that treated steel routinely has approximately 100nm thick anti corrosion coatings - I don't know what the tolerances are but then I doubt the guys proposing the nano-thermite paper have stated tolerances either. I may add diced tomatoes to the sauce, but I'm not eating pasta with plain tomatoes, and by the time you've added the spices, have you gained anything? This is a case where the 50 cents saved isn't worth it. weren't we talking about eating healthy? for the same amount of money? use $0.50 in spices... knock yourself out! I agree with you. As a family we eat on a budget. It helps that none of us are meat addicts and are happy to eat meat 3 or 4 times a week. Tomato and onion on pasta or rice is cheap, so is macaroni cheese. Mince on pasta is cheap if not loaded on. Interestingly we feel that we can't afford to eat out all the time - but most of the unemployeed live off Fish and Chips. This is the UK not the US - so there is a difference as you guys have a far bigger eat out culture than here and good food is correspondingly cheaper over there which does help. yes, i do realise that. But when the aluminium plates and iron oxide particles are uniform and only 100 nanometres across, as specified byu the paper you are trying to refute without actually having read it. You are jumping to conclusions I read the paper. I am not trying to knock your integrity. There are much "simpler" explanations for you rust and aluminium can be found in the WTC dust. For goodness sake the buildings were how old 30 or 40 years?I am sure a decent amount of surface rust will form over that period of time - especially near the sea. Add to that the fact that many paints or primers have aluminium in them and I can easily see a substantial amount forming from that process alone. Throw in an entire aircraft impacting at speed and constructed from aluminium and I can happily accept that even more metallic alloy is formed. I go back to my original point - many people do not appear to be able to accept that it was simply a handful of dedicated fanatics. The 9/11 conspiracy theorists are NO different in my eyes to the millions of people who jump onto the "Saddam Hussein was behind the attacks" bandwagon. The paper you linked to notes the constituent metals in the particles and implies a larger conclusion. Why no mention of paints and other naturally occurring explanations if they don't have their own agenda? It is so easy to make the evidence fit their own predefined conclusions. I have brake fluid and ammonium nitrate in my garage, you can scientifically prove that if I combined the two I would have an IED. The fact that the brake fluid is for my car, and the nitrates for the lawn are valid explanations. Don't mix up scientific evidence with intent and origin - aluminium and iron particles existed in the WTC don't automatically assume that they were some highly engineered super weapon. Rhys, You do realise that themite is simply a mixture of Iron Oxide (rust) and Aluminium? Looking beyond the conspiracy theories it is quite easy to see how you could get thermite residue from a large aluminium structure (aircraft) impacting a building with lots of steel. If only a small percentage reacted in a thermite like fashion you could have 100's of kilograms of residue. Another thing to remember is that like all other disciplines engineers have their share of people who are publicity whores and who will also get focused in on "their" solution being right. 9/11 caught the western world off guard. It seems that nobody thought that fanatics would go ahead with an insane plot - and secondly a large number of people do not seem to have grasped the fact that a handful of fanatics could attack a superpower and essentially succeed in their mission. Some people like to believe that the only way it could happen was with Iraq backing - I wouldn't be surprised to find a few who believe that, while knocking your equally tenuous claims. It seems to be like religion to me - people can't accept how fragile and vulnerable we are so they make up complex stories to fit the evidence. It is truly frightening to think that a handful of dedicated fanatics can kill 3000 people and cause billions of dollars of damage, so people rationalise it away and blame it on Saddam or Bush. I am surprised that Bush hasn't spun the thermite theory as "evidence" of WMD in Iraq. I mean they found how many millions of tons of thermite raw materials that were found literally days away from being weaponised Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
